Be a part of history....A welcome respite after a day sight-seeing come 'home' to this unique and spacious, window-filled, light & sunny apartment that has 1,066 sq. feet of living space over two floors--everybody has their own area to retreat to. It is set within the exclusive and gated heritage area of the prestigious, award-winning Royal Arsenal Riverside and retains many original architectural and period features. According to English Heritage's, Survey of London, 'the Royal Arsenal is among Britain's most important historic sites.' This well-appointed, corner apartment, is on the top floor with views of the Thames River and historic Arsenal buildings. The first level consists of open-plan lounge, dining and kitchen areas--complete with hob/oven, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer, microwave & washer/dryer. The spacious and bright living area has two leather sofas, armchair and an additional double sofa bed in a separate nook. Make use of the Digital HDTV, DVD player, CD, DAB radio and FREE WiFi internet. Off the entry hallway is a tiled, walk-in shower and WC with heated towel rail. A spiral staircase leads to two bedrooms, one with king bed and en suite bathroom, the other with 2/3 single beds. A baby cot is available. There are excellent direct transport options via DLR/Tube, Train, Thames Clipper to all London attractions and venues -- the O2 Dome, Royal Greenwich, Excel, Canary Wharf, London City Airport, Tower of London/Tower Bridge, former Olympic venues are minutes away. Our assigned parking space is just outside the front door in the gated courtyard complete with historic cannons. 24/7 Concierge

Just beyond the gates of our historic courtyard is the Thames Clipper Pier, Wellington Park, the Greenwich Heritage Centre and Public Transport--DLR/Tube, Thames Clipper and Train all providing direct connections to London's most popular tourist sites and attractions. It is so easy to get anywhere!

Take the Thames Clipper, Train or DLR from the Royal Arsenal/Woolwich Arsenal direct to the O2, Royal Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Tower Bridge/Tower of London, Cannon Street/The City, London Bridge, Waterloo (London Eye/Southbank), Embankment/Charing Cross/Trafalgar Square (the heart of London--theatre/West End, Covent Garden, Leicester Square, and Whitehall/Parliament/Big Ben).

History comes alive in this period warehouse building that has been sympathetically redesigned and restored to allow you to enjoy its original brick, stone and steel beam features. You can imagine yourself in 18-20th century London yet you still have all the modern conveniences and luxuries of a 21st century home! It's like being on the set of a BBC period drama.

Royal Arsenal Riverside History:

In 1512, Henry VIII established a Royal Dockyard at Woolwich. His largest warship, the Henri Grâce à Dieu or the Great Harry, was built and launched here in 1514. The Arsenal, originally known as The Warren, was established as an Ordnance Storage Depot in 1671. The Royal Laboratories were added in 1696 and the Royal Brass Foundry in 1715. In 1716 Royal Artillery companies were formed by Royal Warrant. The Royal Military Academy (which has become Sandhurst) originated at the Arsenal in 1720. In 1805, King George III decreed The Warren be known as the Royal Arsenal. By this time, Woolwich was already a busy military centre. Many of the Arsenal's original buildings remain (this apartment is located in one of them), and historic artifacts are found throughout the site. The Royal Arsenal carried out armaments manufacture and explosives research for the British armed forces until it was decommissioned in 1967. For those who have an American connection, 'the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air' all came from the Royal Arsenal. All Victoria Cross medals (the highest honour in the British military) are struck from Guns residing at the 'Firepower' Museum onsite, which is believed to be the world's oldest military museum.

Our apartment/flat is perfectly situated for accessing all of the sites used for the London Olympics/Paralympics. Woolwich is the permanent home of an Olympics Live Big Screen in the town square.

Royal Golf - The world's oldest Golf Club, the Royal Blackheath is a short drive or bus ride away and welcomes visitors for rounds of golf. The club museum contains hundreds of years of golfing artifacts and memorabilia including the world's oldest golfing medal and England's oldest golf club. The museum is set within the stunning Eltham Lodge which was completed in 1664.

Henry VIII - Eltham Palace, Henry VIII's childhood home is across the street from Eltham Lodge and welcomes visitors. Eltham Palace was Henry VIII's favourite home.

Arsenal & Charlton Football Clubs - The Arsenal Football Club (The Gunnners) was founded in 1886 onsite and matches were played at the Dial Arch which is now a pub. Charlton Athletic Football Club is 2 miles away.

The first McDonald's in the UK opened in Woolwich, October 12, 1974.

A travelling circus or carnival often resides on the Historic Blackheath.

Visiting Hever Castle, the childhood home of Anne Bolelyn, the second wife of Henry VIII, is a perfect day trip by car.

We have lived and worked in London but have also spent time living and working abroad as both children and adults. We enjoy sharing our home with guests from all over the world--many from countries in which we have lived. Along with helping fellow Brits enjoy their Capital City or attend special events or family gatherings.

Why Andrea & Tim chose London

The Royal Arsenal provides the unique experience of living a modern life in surroundings where the entire history of the United Kingdom has evolved...and much of the world! The view and ambiance created by the flat's positioning, outlook and period features makes staying here a one-of-a-kind experience. You can stay in a 'new build' anywhere but no other location in London affords the opportunity to stay in a building/development that influenced the history of the world in such a profound way. For example, as mentioned in the American national anthem, 'the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air' all came from the Royal Arsenal--examples of which are on display at the Firepower Museum. This property is spacious and perfect for families (groups) ---particularly those with 3 or more kids, like ourselves. We believe families and friends should be able to holiday together and not be split up in order to be charged extra for an additional hotel room. In addition, its location in the Royal Arsenal itself is unique. It's the type of place that makes you want to just stay 'home', play games and watch movies together. My husband and I love to sit at the kitchen table in the morning with the sun streaming in and read the paper while looking out over the courtyard and the amazing history that surrounds us. There is enough room for the kids to play Twister, watch movies or retreat to their own spaces with their electronic devices. The grocery store-Tesco's, Dial Arch Pub, Cornerstone Cafe, Congusto, Taproom & Hopstuff Brewery, Greenwich Heritage Centre, Thames River Walk, Woolwich Town Centre and Community Swimming Pool are just out the gate or a stone's throw away. The travel links are superb to ANYWHERE in London (DLR/Tube, Train, Thames Clipper, London City Airport & Bus)--with more options and convenience than any other location in London--even more so when CrossRail is completed.

And nothing beats the friendly and authentic welcome of the East End

Our view of the Thames and historic Royal Arsenal buildings, our location within the heritage quarter and gated 'golden square,' and the ambiance and spaciousness of the flat are unique within both the Royal Arsenal and London. It is so easy and comfortable to get anywhere in London whether Central, East, West, North or South utilizing: the Thames Clipper, Train or DLR/Tube. Everything you need to make your stay comfortable is either in the flat or can be easily obtained within the Royal Arsenal, or in the shopping precinct just across the road from the Royal Arsenal Development. There are six pubs/restaurants/cafes in the Royal Arsenal and two supermarkets: Marks & Spencer Food Hall & Tesco's Express.

Towels and bedding are provided and included in the price quoted for letting. Upon request there is also a travel cot and highchair available for use.

The Tap Room features the Arsenal's own micro-brew & pizza. Swimming Pool & Fitness Facilities are located at the Waterfront Leisure Centre adjacent to the Royal Arsenal site--approximately 10 minutes walk west along the Thames River. The Woolwich Free Ferry to North Woolwich is just beyond. (You pass the Thames Clipper Royal Arsenal Pier--opposite the flat--on the way.) A day use fitness gym is next to Lidl market, just across from the Arsenal.

Loved this flat! So much character and total comfort, the perfect home base for our London city visit. We really enjoyed the quiet atmosphere at the Royal Arsenal and the Thames River Clipper and the trains still provides instant and easy access to everything London has to offer. We have travelled and stayed in many vacation rentals around the world, this one is top notch!

Just as described, our stay was amazing.

If you are visiting London, this is a perfect area. You have access to the Clipper within a few minute walk and this boat transportation will take you to all the big sights . I can't say enough about the apartment. It was a fabulous stay. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

Wow!

We were just blown away from the moment we walked in the door. Very cool digs! Andrea kept us very well informed and getting to and from London proper was a breeze. When we return to London this will be temporary home away from home.

Awesome!!!

This is a beautiful property located in a very cool area with many options for shopping, dining, etc. within walking distance. The flat is very comfortable and very safe. Communication with the owner was very easy and she answered many questions concerning transportation options and information about the immediate area. Transport to the center of London via the Thames Clipper was fun and a great change of pace to the normal transport.

We would stay here again!

Wonderful flat on the Thames.

Very comfortable flat in quiet section of Royal Arsenal. Directions to the flat were easy to follow and we were met promptly and escorted to the flat. Close to transportation, restaurants and shopping. Easy to get to central London by boat or train. Great to come back to a quiet, residential area after the hub bub of London. Thanks for making this a memorable visit.
