About this property

The Blue Marlin - Beachfront Oasis with Private Beachside Pool & Boat Dock

Since 2017, "The Blue Marlin" has provided sea-loving families with the ultimate North Captiva beachfront retreat. This unique property includes over one acre of land and offers a private beachside pool and private boat dock. With panoramic water views and a gently sloping sugar sand beach, it is a gorgeous, relaxing setting for your family vacation. "The Blue Marlin" is located on North Captiva Island, a bridge-less, car-free, crowd-free paradise. Sea kayaks and paddle boards are kept right at the house and can be easily taken down to the shore for paddling adventures. Dolphins are often encountered and are typically sighted daily from the house's expansive decks. A protected dock at the back of the property is a great place for fishing adventures or mooring your boat. The private beachside pool is a favorite place to play or relax. This one-of-a-kind property extends to Safety Harbor along its western border, Salty Approach Airstrip along the north, and the pristine Pine Island Sound to the east.

Come to this peaceful haven for your family vacation. Watch dolphins frolic offshore and pelicans glide past your porch throughout the day. Enjoy breathtaking sunrises as you sip your coffee on the wrap-around decks and marvel at the beauty of the universe as you star gaze into the dark night sky. Fall asleep to the rustle of palm branches and the peaceful lapping of waves along the shore. Explore the amazing coastal waters by sea kayaks or paddle boards which are included in the house rental. Beautiful and rare wildlife abound-- from shorebirds to manatees, and sea turtles to sawfish. Miles of pristine beaches are available for beach combing on North Captiva Island or nearby Cayo Costa. A private beachside pool and a private boat dock with 2 slips are included.

"The Blue Marlin" was designed to accommodate families who love the sea. It embraces the spirit of the islands with its relaxed, comfortable, family-friendly design. The house is divided into private and gathering spaces, with expansive wrap-around porches. The main part of the house includes a large family room and a functional, fabulous kitchen and dining area. A massive kitchen island includes 6 barstools and an heirloom kitchen table, crafted from reclaimed marine timbers, which seats 8. The Gulf of Mexico, Captiva Pass, and Cayo Costa Island can all be viewed from the kitchen sink and stove. A large 55" television is mounted over the fireplace and can be viewed from any seat in the room. Two plump, cozy sofas and a reading alcove with a queen-size mattress offer comfy places to relax. An old seaman's chest is stocked with cards and board games for family game night.

The second part of the house includes private bedrooms, bathrooms, and a large laundry room with a high-capacity washer and dryer. The Abacos bedroom has a queen-size bed and attached half bath with a French door leading out to the deck. Large windows offer stunning views of the Sound. The Captiva bedroom next door shares the panoramic water views and also has a French door leading to the wrap-around deck. It has a king-size bed and a large master bath with a walk-in shower. The Rookery bedroom across the hall has a queen-size bed and a French door leading to the deck and the outdoor shower. The outdoor shower also has beach views and views of the spectacular star-filled sky at night. Over 1,480 square feet of elevated deck wrap around the house and offer many choices for sunbathing and relaxation. The bunk room has 4 twin-size beds perfect for the young and young at heart. A large guest bathroom has double sinks, a shower, and a shallow tub for the little ones' bubble baths.

Much of "The Blue Marlin's" charm comes from its vintage furnishings and reclaimed architectural details. The reclaimed heart-of-pine flooring dates back to a 1800's Kentucky whiskey distillery; the vintage ship lights were salvaged from old passage ships; much of the furniture was created from recycled boat wood; and even the giant 12' Marlin that hangs above the kitchen cabinets was a Pine Island garage sale treasure (refurbished by a local taxidermist). "The Blue Marlin" sits on a historic piece of land that was once used by native Caloosa people, claimed by the King of Spain, used by early coastal pioneers and fishermen at the turn of the century, and cleared by the Kinsey family for use as a sand airstrip that once ran north to south along the coast. Even though it is newly constructed, "The Blue Marlin's" Florida-style design and sea-loving spirit offer a nostalgic nod to the past. A portion of each rental is donated to local charities that work to protect wildlife and marine and coastal environments.

"The Blue Marlin" is located on North Captiva, a bridgeless subtropical barrier island with over five miles of pristine, sandy beaches. The island is traffic-free, car-free, and carefree. Electric golf carts, bicycles, and feet are the only modes of transportation and shoes are optional. The southern part of North Captiva includes over 350 acres of protected state park land. Transportation to North Captiva from the mainland is provided by Boats and Fun Water Taxi, Island Girl Charters, Just For Fun Ferry Boat, private charter, or your boat. A private beachside pool and private boat dock are included with the house rental. "The Blue Marlin" is a member of the North Captiva Island Club and guests can enjoy the Club's many amenities including its two large pools and tennis courts. Guests of "The Blue Marlin" will receive a voucher which can be redeemed with Sandy Wheels Cart Rental for the use of a 4–4-person golf cart during their stay. (Please note that if you have more than 4 guests in your party, you will be required to rent a second golf cart in order to redeem the golf cart voucher. )

Perfect location, best views
We stayed in the Blue Marlin during spring break 2024. We loved every minute of our trip. The Blue Marlin house is situated on a very unique piece of North Captiva. It has both ocean front and safety harbor shore line, giving you direct beach access and a dock for your boat. The pool and deck area under the house was expansive. The newly planted garden of palm trees gave a real tropical vibe. In the mornings, you have the best view of the sunrise which you can view from inside (lots of big windows) or from the large wrap around deck. At sunset, you can drive/walk a short distance to the beach on the other side of the island to see it.We arrived by private boat which we rented from Speed Dock, one of the owner’s recommended rental businesses. When we got there Tortuga, the management team, unloaded our luggage from the boat and delivered it into the house. That was a very nice service. Duncan is super! The house has a nice living area/kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and amenities. We had a couple of hiccups at the beginning, but everything was taken care of by the management team in a timely manner. My only warning about staying in North Captiva is the food situation. We did use Tortuga’s food delivery service. It is expensive, but the worth it in my opinion. Since Hurricane Ian in 2022, NoCap has been rebuilding. Two of the four restaurants are not open. So my biggest recommendation is to have your own boat to get access to other local restaurants on other islands.

Blue Marlin is a keeper!
Such a dream vacation on your own personal quiet beach. The daily expansive water views from this property seep into your soul. The only real problem was- that we had to leave. The home is well equipped and provides for a comfortable home away from home experience. The beds are comfortable, the linens soft. The management and owners were kind and responsive. Nature on North Captiva is incredible. Constant dolphin sightings, osprey, manatee (in Safety Harbor), gopher tortoise, and eagles await! The rentable wide tire bikes allow for exploring the island’s nature preserve with ease. The ice cream shop is situated near the bike return. This property is unique in that it borders both the Pine Island Sound on the back,as well as Safety Harbor on the front (accessed via a two part long dock). The home’s lower deck affords enjoyable swimming in the warm private pool, corn hole, grilling, and relaxing on the ample lounge chairs. Our favorites were the mornings spent watching the sunrise on the water from the wrap around balcony, and watching sunsets from the opposite side of the balcony. Plentiful shells abound. The transportation process was made easy by the property’s management team (that helps you load and unload your luggage). The included golf cart was of very good quality. I’m still not entirely sure why we left. A vacation you’ll never regret in a well appointed and beautiful home. The Blue Marlin is a keeper, and worthy of its 5-star rating.

Unexpected Awesome Vacation
We stayed at the Blue Marlin from June 4, 2023 to June 11, 2023. I was a little apprehensive for this vacation because it isn't your typical vacation. There were alot of things to take care of logistics-wise from transportation to getting food that are very different from normal vacation spots. First of all, Kelly was one of the best owners to work with. She was very responsive before and during the trip. The management company answered all of our questions quickly and were very responsive with any issues we encountered or had questions on. The house was unbelievable. It had everything we needed from the pool, to a grill for cooking out, to kayaks, to an outdoor shower and best of all, our own beach! The grocery service is a must and working with Antoine was great. He took my many calls and answered my questions many times prior to getting down there. The only thing we had an issue with was there was a barge ship right next to us for the cleanup from the hurricane. We got used to it and will be back to see what it is like when it isn't there. I saw one quote from someone who vacationed at North Captiva. It went something like this: "I was worried about what to do on the island, but when I was there, I ended up doing nothing!" One of the most relaxing trips we ever went on and we definitely plan on going back and staying at the Blue Marlin.

One of the best family vacations ever
We have stayed in many VRBO properties and this one was the first that was way better than the pictures can even show . You just have to go see it ! The view never gets old ! Our three teenage boys loved it! Even though there is not much to do on the island - it’s amazing beaches, pool as well as tons of water activities and corn hole were perfect and we were never bored. We saw so many dolphins and could almost touch them out on the kayaks and paddle board . Take some games or use the ones there. It was great to play them at the huge dinning table . We used blue marlin charters and rob was great ! Tortuga did a wonderful job ! We felt very taken care of ! Prepare to sit back and relax ! If there was anything I’d mention that I’d change it would be to prepare better for the no see Um bugs . Got lots of bites outside the first night but this is to be expected when living on an island beach . Get some bug spray w your sunscreen . The blue marlin will have a special place in our heart and I hope we will have the privilege to come back again.

Why they chose this property

"The Blue Marlin" is located on over an acre of land. More than half of the property is set aside as preserve area, that was restored to native vegetation when the homesite was prepared. A boat dock was carefully constructed along the Safety Harbor, and guests of "The Blue Marlin" can use the protected dock space for their boats, rental craft, or private charter. It is also a good place to fish, sunbath and watch for friendly dolphins. As part of of State permitting requirements, the home was built on pilings at elevations more than 17 feet above sea level. The result is a breathtaking views of Pine Island Sound and the surrounding Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserve. Safety Harbor, the Gulf of Mexico, Captiva Pass, Cayo Costa Island, Cabbage Key, Use, and the historic fishing shacks of Pine Island Sound can all be viewed from the house. "The Blue Marlin" is located adjacent to Salty Approach, the grass airstrip, and typically, once or twice a day small airplanes land or takeoff. Because of the house orientation, landing aircraft pass right by the porches--it is thrill to watch! The waters right in front of the runway are a favorite hangout for dolphin families and they are sighted daily playing and fishing along the beach. Occasional pods of manatees are also sighted along the shore and off the dock in Safety Harbor. Shorebirds abound and ospreys and pelicans drift past the house porches on the sea breezes. "The Blue Marlin" is like no other property on the North Captiva or anywhere else--we look forward to sharing it with you!
