Take the ferry trip along the coast to Split and embark near the Roman Diocletian Palace for a fascinating day.

SO MUCH TO DO.........SO MUCH TO SEE.......

Hire a pedalo, jet ski or small boat from the local Beach Sports Centre or try your hand at paragliding or banana boat and rubber ring rides.

Why not be more adventurous and take a Quad & Buggy Safari through the forest and mountain trails of Ciovo or visit the island's Paintballing Centre.

Relax on the beach where you can hire a sun lounger and parasol. The many beach bars offer fast food snacks, ice creams, cool beers, soft drinks and cocktails just yards from you. Stalls sell fresh fruit, juices, pancakes, jewellery and beach goods. The warm sea is perfect for swimming and snorkelling to see the wide variety of fish species which live in the rocky crevices. Make sure to wear jelly shoes or similar for comfort on the shingly beach. For more solitude you can take a walk through the woods to secluded local coves.

For a good day out take a 'Fish Picnic' boat excursion to the nearby island of Solta and the Blue Lagoon with plenty of local snaps and red wine included.

About Cynthia Bidwell-owner or owner's daughter Lynne Barker

My name is Cynthia and I was born and grew up in a small village north of Cambridge in England. I have a grown up son and daughter and four grand daughters aged 14, 12 ,4 and a few months. Family is very important to me. My daughter Lynne helps me to manage the Penthouse View apartment. As a family we visit the apartment often and it is very much home from home to us. We have enjoyed making it a comfortable and relaxing retreat and we have made very good friends in Okrug Gornji village.

I have lived in the same village all my life and am very much involved in the community being a member of the Parish Council, a trustee of the local Day Centre for the elderly and a trustee of our Town Lands Charity. I belong to the Gardening Club and the local branch of the British Legion and was Chairman of our Carnival Committee for many years. I am the practice manager at a local GP practice and have worked there for over 40 years.

My roots will always be in my home village but I love to travel and visit other countries. My partner Simon and I spent 5 years building a 36ft yacht and we sailed thousands of miles around the coast of Britain, across the North Sea and eventually down to the Mediterranean Sea where we kept our yacht for many years and sailed all around the Med. Simon is currently building a 50ft steel yacht behind our house so that we can continue our sailing into our retirement days. Having an apartment base on the beautiful Adriatic coast where we can moor our yacht within view of our own balcony and knowing that it will be safe when we are back home in Britain is I think having the best of both worlds.

We are not wealthy and have worked hard to achieve what we have now but have been lucky that we grew up in a time when that was possible. I think things will be tougher for the younger generations.

Cynthia Bidwell-owner or owner's daughter Lynne Barker purchased this apartment in 2008

Why Cynthia Bidwell-owner or owner's daughter Lynne Barker chose Ciovo

We heard from a friend that the apartment block was due to be built by a local builder who they knew well. We visited the area and fell in love with both the island and the site. We stayed locally several times during the build and were impressed with the quality of the work. We were involved in choosing the floor coverings, kitchen and bathroom fittings and other details which have all meant that this is an apartment which is individual to us. We have become friends with the builder Mijo and his wife Bozena and their family. They live in the apartment block next door and they look after our property for us. We know that Penthouse View and our guests are in safe hands.

What makes this apartment unique

The views from this apartment are amazing and we never fail to be moved by the spectacular sunsets from our balcony. I was determined to have a swinging seat on the balcony and I have spent many a happy hour gently swinging and soaking up the atmosphere. Penthouse View is a wonderful place to recharge the batteries and to take some 'me' time in an otherwise very busy life. It is easily accessible from Britain with a short flight time and then just a 10 minute drive from the local Split airport which is modern and efficient. Our friendly taxi driver Vjenceslav (or Mr V) can meet you at the airport and deliver you to the front door where Bozena will greet you and show you the apartment. I'm afraid there are three short flights of stairs to the top of the building but the view is definitely worth it.

Ciovo Island and Okrug Gornji are an ideal location to enjoy the unique delights of the Dalmatian Coast. You are based in a beautiful island community but have the added benefits of road links to the mainland by bridge which means you can easily explore the wider Dalmatian coast area.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Yes the arrangements were exellent and we had a wonderful time. The apartment is absolutely lovely and the views amazing. I think something very special about the

accommodation is that it feels as if every item is chosen with personal care and that makes you feel welcome. The Island is beautiful and there is so much to explore nearby.

Room with the most amazing views and sunsets

  • 5 of 5

When choosing our holiday it was the advertised view that sold it to us. On our arrival we were not disappointed in any way, the view and sunset took our breath away. There was no better way to end the day with a meal and our favourite tipple or simply rocking in the lounger on the balcony just watch the sun go down, unforgettable.

The apartment is very well equipped throughout from pots and pans, glasses, cutlery, towels and bedding absolutely everything you could possibly need even down to a sewing kit. Plenty of local literature, guides, maps and advice on places to visit and novels for those who just want to chill on the balcony. The beds, sofas, dinning tables and chairs are all well looked after and comfortable. The apartment was also spotlessly clean on our arrival. (All thanks to Bozena and her team)

2 local supermarkets have most things (take your own tea bags though) and all speak very good English and there is a very good bakery about 10 minutes walk way.

Ciovo is a lovely bay with lovely beaches we were probably spoilt as it was out of season and therefore quiet but still beautiful and a nice walk around from the harbour and on into Trogir. We hired a small boat for the day and explored the extremities of the island and its secluded bays well worth it just to soak up the sun and admire the stunningly clear waters.

Trogir is beautiful with all its tiny winding streets and different shops and eateries around every corner. The market which is open daily is also very good. One thing we both commented on was how clean everywhere was not a ciggy end or discarded gum to be seen.

We hired a car from the airport (booked from the UK) no problems or issues and it was worth it as we were able to travel to Krka falls, Split, Dubrovnic and around the local area to see the other end of the bay where the sun went down every night. It also gave us access to the larger supermarkets between Trogir and Split which had more choice and were cheaper.

We could not fault the apartment, the area or Croatia. We had a thoroughly restful stay with fantastic weather, a perfect apartment and sunset views that will be very hard to better. First class all round, many many thanks.

Owner's Response: I am delighted that you enjoyed your stay in my apartment. We love the area and the people, and I am always pleased when my guests do too. Bozena and her team are real treasures and we are lucky to have them. They take great pride in ensuring that our guests have a good holiday. Thank you for your kind words and for the useful information. Every year at the beginning of the season we take out a large supply of English teabags as we know how important a good cup of tea is to our fellow British travellers. We will visiting the apartment at the end of May with supplies.

Excellent first class with the most amazing views

  • 5 of 5

The property was first class, well equipped with a view from the balcony that will never be forgotten. Nothing to complain about apart from having to say goodbye to the view as we head to the airport

Wonderful Apartment - Fantastic Sunsets

  • 4 of 5

The apartment had every home comfort that you would want. It was very clean and very well maintained. The owner provided us with a lot of information before we went - which was useful. It was lovely sitting out on the balcony watching the beautiful sunsets. However the dates that we went 17th - 27th Sept - the building ban for the Summer was over so nearly everyday, (well the days that we had a 'local' day and apart from the weekend), there was a digger working nearby cutting through rock so that they could build a swimming pool. It did spoil things a little. One day it didn't stop until 6.00pm.

You need to be fit to rent this apartment - 40 steps (5 flights) up to the front door and apartment on the top of a steep hill (or have a car). However the roads are very narrow and loads of scooters, so driving was a nightmare.

Having said all this we did have a lovely relaxing holiday. Great visits to Split, Hvar and the blue cave. We really enjoyed the little ferry to Trogir - spent most of our time here. Beautiful town with some fantastic restaurants.

Owner's Response: It was such a shame that there was building work nearby during your holiday. I'm glad it didn't spoil your relaxation too much. It was completely unexpected as neither us or any of our guests have had any noise problems in September before, although we do know that building work is allowed to recommence during the winter months. Our "penthouse" position at the top of the building and a hill is the reason for the fantastic unrivalled views we enjoy from the apartment. This is something to consider when making your holiday choice as there will inevitably be some steps and a bit of a climb up from the beach. I do think though that you will find it is not that onerous and definitely worth the extra effort.

Beautiful apartment with stunning views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week and it was perfect! Mr V was waiting for us from the airport as arranged and dropped us at the apartment where we where met by Bozina, a really friendly lady. The apartment has everything in it that you should ever need and was beautifully clean and tidy when we arrived. The views from the apartment are stunning and the sunsets to die for. The apartment is up high and if you weren't fit when you arrive, you will be when you leave...

It was so easy to get from the beach to Trogir by water taxi, cost 20 Kuna each way per person. The water taxi is such a lovely way to get to and fro as it provides a cooling breeze and is so relaxing. Trogir is great with tiny streets and plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from to suit any budget.

The trip into Split was easy too on the number 37 local bus, although we did return on the ferry which provided a fabulous cruise back to Trogir.

There is lots to do and see in this area of Croatia, but also there is the opportunity to just relax and do nothing.

We would definitely return and be most happy to stay in this lovely apartment again.

Lovely apartment with great views

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was lovely. Modern with all amenities. Clean and very comfortable. The balcony was great with table, chairs and swing for up to three people. Wonderful to relax there, drink a glass of wine and watch the beautiful scenery. The whole are was lovely, very typically Croation with plenty of delicious places to eat or buy food. The main beach was clean and the water clear with many places to sit and sun beds for cheap hire. Even huge parasols near some of the bars to shade whole families. Many are not charged if you are patrons of the bar but prices very good. lots of fresh salad, fish and local delicacies such as calamari - delicious! The ferries are very regular and cheap to Trogir which is an old town with lots of small shops and market, more bars and restaurants.

The only drawback to the apartment was that there is a steep walk on the road, up from the beach but that means you can eat more delicious croissants for breakfast with no guilt!

We really loved it and were very sad to leave. We would definitely go back again for another relaxing break and would recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: Thank you for sharing your holiday experience and giving lots of helpful information about the area. It's always a pleasure to hear that our guests have loved the region and the apartment. It is a steep climb up from the beach but everyone seems to think as we do that the view from the balcony is worth the effort. We always take it slowly and often stop en route for a drink in one of the bars on the way. After all there's no rush when you are on holiday and the locals are very friendly.
