L'Abricotier is located in half of the grand main building with its own separate entrance via an arched doorway at the West end of the mill. With three bedrooms it comfortably accommodates six people. The gite is named after the wonderful old apricot tree which climbs against the West-facing wall. Formerly the old coach house, it has a split-level ground floor with a charming snug/lounge area complete with fireplace and wood burner, comfortable seating and satellite TV. The kitchen is fully-fitted with appliances and a comprehensive range of utensils, cutlery and crockery. The adjoining dining area has a table and seating for six. Upstairs the three bedrooms have lovely views across the grounds and vines beyond. The master bedroom has it’s own shower and sink unit and there is also a family bathroom with shower, sink and toilet. Lastly you have the choice of two private terraces adjoining the property (South and West facing) with a stone-built BBQ , sun awning and hardwood furniture.
Le Moulin de Chazotte is a 16th century French watermill offering beautiful, family friendly self catering holiday accommodation.
Our four exclusive gites are brimming with charm and character whilst offering all the modern comforts and facilities to ensure you have a relaxing and rewarding holiday. The gites vary in size, from La Principale (the main house) which sleeps up to 7 people - perfect for families. Or for a couple looking for a more romantic, private stay, Le Chai, which is a cosy one bedroom hideaway. All gites have their own private terrace but also offer access to 12 acres of grounds and facilities, including the large heated and floodlit swimming pool (12m x 6m) and a variety of outdoor activities and games. See each gites listing for more details.
Located in blissful rural tranquility within the Poitou-Charente region on the French Atlantic coast, only 10 minutes away from historic Cognac and a short drive to the nearest village with that all important local boulangerie. This picturesque region is steeped in Roman and Medieval history and is known for its sleepy villages, Romanesque churches, heritage towns, as well as for the famous and delicious Cognac drink of course.
The history of Cognac: The Cognac area was colonised by the Romans for some 800 years and any town or village with the letters 'ac' at the end or it's name was originally a roman villa (hence names like Cognac, Mesnac, Jarnac etc). The Romans introduced vines and viticulture into the region and so initiated the development of the world-famous drink of Cognac. Nowadays Cognac production is a thriving industry and we have the likes of Hennessy, Courvoisier and Martell almost on our doorsteps. We recommend that you have a conducted tour (and tasting!) of at least one Cognac distillery while you are staying with us.
There are also literally hundreds and hundreds of small family-run Cognac producers in the Charente and we have a close tie with the Chateau Chesnel which produces Cognac and Pineau (a local aperitif based on Cognac) under the family name of Roffignac. There was an intermarriage between the Chesnel and Chazotte families back in the middle ages so it makes for a particularly interesting local visit.
Hello there! We are Rowan and Laura Wickham and are the proud owners of Le Moulin de Chazotte.
We purchased the Mill in early 2016. It was a somewhat impetuous decision having first seen it in September 2015 and falling totally in love with the mill, the gites, the gardens, the surrounding area and France in general. Seriously, this place is a little piece of heaven and we are so excited to start running it and welcoming lots of lovely guests.
Rowan is from New Zealand, and Laura is English and we have spent the last ten years living in Zurich, Switzerland.
We are taking over Le Moulin from the fabulous Bob and Jane Todd who lovingly restored it to what it is today. Their knowledge, support and kindness towards us has been invaluable and we cannot thank them enough. They are off to their next adventure in the Pyrenees and we just hope that we can continue the success of the mill in a manner and spirit that continues their legacy.
So, enough about us! If you want to know more, come and visit and we can have a good old natter over a glass of wine or two on the terrace. We look forward to hopefully welcoming you at the Mill!
Laura & Rowan Wickham purchased this house in 2016

I very rarely write reviews of places we have vsited but Le Moulin de Chazotte was one of the best houses I have stayed in in over six years of holidaying in France. The facilities were first rate and very spacious (my kids loved having two bedrooms to choose from!). The house was very well kept and included nice touches like some games and books for those rainy days. Plus lots to see in the area.
Two things stand out - Bob the owner was so friendly and helpful and secondly the house just oozed character and charm. I would recommend to anyone!
We have just returned from a wonderful week staying in l'abricotier gite, part of the Moulin de Chazotte .
As a family of 5 aged 3 - 44 yrs we can highly recommend this gite.
Bob and Jane have thought of everything a family would need for a perfectly relaxing holiday.
We were met by Bob on our arrival, having followed their well written directions to the gite. There are plenty of large supermarkets nearby and a good boulangerie within jogging or cycling distance ,
The kitchen is well equipped, has a dishwasher and washing machine and was clean and well maintained.
The whole family enjoyed the pool and the table tennnis provided ,and we were able to meet the other famlies staying there at the weekly BBQ at the beginning of the week , where we all formed friendships for the rest of the week, the children playing together on the field ,whilst the adults supervised over a glass or two of local pineau!
Plenty to see and do in area,or a great place to just relax by the pool with a book.Thank you for a great stay Bob and Jane.

Beautifully renovated self catering cottages in a lovely setting in the Charente region overlooking vineyards. All properties are tastefully furnished and well equipped and spacious. Facilities are good and include an impressive pool area. Also large field for playing games. Bicycles are available from the owner, together with a canoe for adventures upstream. The owners, Bob and Jane, are friendly and helpful and do everything to make your holiday enjoyable, including a weekly barbecue. Interesting towns of Cognac and Saintes within easy reach. A good holiday for families, including those with older children. Thoroughly recommended.
We choose this gite from the internet in July 2008.We contacted Bob who gave us directions that sounded complicated but took us straight to the door. What a place spotlessly clean beautiful setting and good swimming pool. The owners are very helpful should you require advice. Cognac has many bars and restaurants, boat trips and canoes are easily booked and i dont speak french! So if this is the area for you with good wine and cognac to boot contact Bob and Jane you wont be disappointed.
Our family spent 2 idyllic weeks here in August '09. Our hosts made us feel so welcome and did everything to make our stay so relaxing. Rooms are wonderful and kept very clean. The Moulin is in a fantastic setting with plenty of walks and rows of grape vines as far as the eye can see. A 5 minute drive to the local bakery gave us fresh croissants for breakfast every morning and a restaurant meal in the evening. The pool was wonderful for cooling down at the end of the day or just for days off from touring. Make sure to explore Cognac and its wonderful bars and shops and you have to visit one of the Cognac producers. We can thoroughly recommend the Moulin for a wonderful away-from-it all holiday - don't worry, there's plenty of games and fun on site to keep the kids happy!
