Romantic, beach side cottage for 2 persons on the Costa Del Sol

Overview

Property

Updated: 03-Dec-2016
Cosy cottage just 10 seconds walk from the sandy beach near the marina & harbour

Fisherman's Cottage is the perfect place for a couple to holiday very near to the beach on the Eastern Costa Del Sol. Located just seconds walk from the beach on the old coast road at Caleta De Velez - the fishing port and marina being 3 minutes walk. Caleta de Velez is a small resort with plenty of bar/restaurants, small shops and local facilities all within a few minutes walk. There is free street parking nearby and a good bus service operating East to Nerja and West to Malaga with the bus stops 5 minutes walk from the cottage.

Fisherman's Cottage is a good coastal base for those hiring a car and wishing to explore the sights of Andalucia.

Granada and the Alhambra Palace, Nerja, Malaga city, Seville and Cordoba are all accessed on good roads/motorways from the cottage.

Many guest will just want to relax on the beach or the sunny roof terrace with its sea views and not travel too far from this very Spanish location. Walk to the street market or enjoy a BBQ & vino under the stars.

Fishermans Cottage - local area: Fishermans Cottage is perfectly located for anyone wanting to walk to the local shops and bars etc. There are several bar/restaurants,a small supermarket, a bakers and a newsagents with a few minutes walk. Between Caleta de Velez and Torre del Mar the beach side promenade passes a number beachbar eateries serving tasty tapas and great local fish & seafood.

Golfers can drive to the 18 hole public course ' Baviera' in just 5 minutes. Full equipment hire is available.

Torre del Mar & Velez Malaga: Torre del Mar is a much larger beach resort which is walkable in around 20 minutes or a 5 min drive. Here you will find entertainment for all ages and a good choice of restaurants including Indian, Chinese, Thai, Mexican and of course Spanish!

The sandy beach is 2km long with safe bathing and beach showers, etc. Sun loungers can also be rented.

Velez Malaga has a large modern shopping centre with excellent boutique shops and Eroski supermarket. It also has tenpin bowling and a multi cinema complex. A modern tram service connects Torre del Mar to the shopping centre and Velez Malaga.

Horse riding can be found nearby and there is a go kart track also.

Exploring Andalucia: Fishermans Cottage is a good coastal base from which to visit the sites and attractions of Andalucia. Granada and the Alhambra Palace is must see. Malaga city is easily reach by car or why not use the local bus - cheap and easy. Visit the castle and the Picasso Museum. Great shopping and tapas bars too. Nerja is a short drive or bus journey along the coast and has great beaches and the famous Nerja Caves.

A good motorway network gives access to Cordoba, Antequerra and Seville.

This was a very good place for us!! The cottage is so nice and comfy! The beach so close and beautiful. The roof terrace was great for sunbathing & eating. All this is the middle of a quiet small town full of kind & generous people!!

Spain has become a place we want to get to know better. Fishermans Cottage will be on our list...

This place is just gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

This place is just so quirky, it is compact and bijou but has everything you need and more. It is in a fabulous location(right on the beach) and is near the shops and restaurants. The balcony is lovely and gives some privacy, although the spiral staircase is not for the feint hearted. Ali is just brilliant, nothing is too much trouble and he is just so helpful and informative. The bed is comfy with plenty of storage with a huge wardrobe and bedside cabinets. It is on the main road and can get a bit noisy early hours of the morning but it did not bother us. The local restaurants are authentic Spanish and have the most gorgeous and amazing food and a beer is very cheap. It is a 20min walk to Torres de Mar along the beach or the promenade, there are plenty of shops and restaurants there plus tourist info. You can hire bikes in Caleta for the day, its all very laid back and cheap. We rode to Torrox along a very safe cycle track , its well worth it to see a bit more of the coast. We would definitely book here again. We have inspired our friends to go to Caleta de Velez , I hope this review inspires more people to go because it is just lovely.

Lovely little cottage right on the beach

  • 5 of 5

Very well equipped little cottage which was very clean on arrival.

The cottage has a good sized kitchen with a washing machine, a small but comfortable living area, a good size bathroom with a great walk-in shower and a large bedroom with a comfortable bed. There are lots of towels, bedding, cleaning products provided in the cottage. There is also a large roof terrace which is accessed via a steep spiral staircase, but it's worth the climb. From the terrace you have a great view of the beach and it's ideal day or night to have a refreshment and people watch. There are also a couple of very nice sun loungers on which I managed to snooze away several hours over our visit.

We were met at the cottage by Mr & Mrs Abi who made sure all was spotless for our arrival and the cava, beers, water, milk, juice and biscuits provided were very much appreciated. They were also a great source of information about the surrounding area.

The only small suggestion I would make is can you provide a lower down mirror. I'm not particularly vain but to brush my hair I had to stand on the second step of the staircase to see in the living room mirror and at 5' 6" I had no chance in the bathroom mirror.

The cottage is well placed for all amenities with lots of shops (Supermarket Louise - turn left out the front door & it's on the first street on your left has a great selection of cold meats and cheese as well as most things you might need), bars and restaurants ( El Bodegon - again turn left out of the front door and walk towards the harbour, it's just past the supermarket - do amazing food).

On the main road ( next street up) you can get an Alsa bus if you want to go exploring, if you want to go to Granada you can get the bus to Nerja and then the connection to Granada leaves at 10am.

We had a great holiday and would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone.

Beachside one bed cottage

  • 5 of 5

Fishermans cottage is a small one bedroom property backing onto the beach in Caleta de Velez.

The cottage is ideal for a couple or a single person looking for a beach break in an area that is very Spanish.

The cottage has a kitchen with everything you'll need if you wish to eat in, a double bedroom with a large wardrobe which has plenty of sheets blankets and towels. The bathroom has a fitted shower which gives a great shower.

The cottage has a roof terrace which is reached via a spiral staircase where there are sunloungers, a table and chairs as well as a couple of washing lines.

There is a huge range of restaurants locally and within a short drive so you need never struggle to find somewhere to eat.

There are plenty of shops and supermarkets within walking distance and also within a short distance if you have a car.

The beach behind the property is fairly sandy, there is also a very large beach in the next town of Torre del Mar.

We received a very warm welcome from Carl at the property and found him a pleasure to deal with throughout the booking process and during our stay.

If you are looking for a small property to rent in this area I would thoroughly recommend Fishermans Cottage.

Owner's Response: I am very pleased with this descriptive review that well describes Fishermans Cottage. " Beach break in an area that is still very Spanish" sums up what this little hideaway has to offer. With just about everything you will need within walking distance. La Caleta de Velez is a top location for those wanting to avoid the larger, busier resorts; and yet still be 15 minutes walk from bustling Torre del Mar. Thanks Bill for your comments and do please return. Carl

Owner's Response: Christine found it easy to get from Malaga airport by taxi/private car as many of our visitors do. La Caleta ( port area) has all the amenities you will need within 10 minutes walk so if you do not want to use the cottage as a touring base a hire car is not required. I will provide another mirror from now on than can be moved to any height and be useful for less tall guests! Thanks and visit again. Carl

A Great Little Cottage in a great little town.

  • 5 of 5

This was just what I wanted, practically on the beach, very well equipped, clean and comfortable. Abi was on hand for my arrival , giving me a warm welcome, and answered all my questions. The cottage is perfect for a solo traveller like myself, and Caleta the ideal spot. I was looking for a totally do nothing holiday, relaxing on the lovely family beach, swimming, good food (The popular fish restaurant a couple of doors away is a must for a great lunch.), and people watching. And don't miss the market on Saturday morning! Opposite the Marina there is a very attractive bar/ restaurant for an evening drink. I stayed for a week and came back home feeling so rested. I would definitely recommend this property and the location. Thank you Carl, thank you Abi and thank you Peter for the lift to and from the airport.

Owner's Response: What a glowing review! Most visitors to Fishermans Cottage are couples so it pleases me that a solo female traveler found it ideal also. Abi always meets guests on arrival and as he lives 20 minutes walk away is happy to provide plenty of local info. All our visitors enjoy the cottages proximity to the sandy beach ....it really is just 10 large paces! Thanks for the tips and we do hope you will visit again. Carl

Unique little cottage for a relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Fisherman's Cottage for the last week in July, the weather was fantastic. The Beach which surrounds the rear of the cottage was always clean and safe, it was also lit up at night and families often stayed cooking and chatting. The cottage itself is 'bijou' and quirky, beautifully clean and well equipped. The roof terrace overlooks the nearby small road and the beach, ideal for people watching and checking the waves. In Caletta every evening there are stalls along the promenade and music in the local bars and restaurants. A short drive to Torre del Mar finds more shops and useful supermarkets, or Nerja, another nearby destination ideal for an evening stroll and shop. We would certainly recommend 'Fisherman's' for a lovely low key relaxing beachside holiday.
