Stunning south facing villa in Begur with outstanding panoramic views of sea and countryside. La Colina is beautifully presented and designed with style, space and comfort in mind.

A short cut walk from the villa takes you to the historic castle town of BEGUR in approximately 15 mins or 3 mins by car. There is a fantastic choice of restaurants, tapas bars, cafes and a few late night cellar bars making Begur attractive to all age groups. A relaxing time can be spent exploring the cobbled streets which are littered with beautiful shops, cafes and restaurants and the weekly market is always fun with clothes, food and general items on sale. If you walk up to the castle at the head of the town you can enjoy amazing views and there are many interesting walks from Begur details of which can be found at the local tourist office. No traffic passes through the centre of the village which makes the old square an enchanting place to sit and watch the world go by whilst sitting at one of the outside cafes or bars. In the high season there is much activity in both the squares in Begur with local artists` work on display, activities for children and live music with dancing, both traditional and modern.

The charming coastal resort of TAMARIU has a promenade with many seafront restaurants and this is 2.75 km, about 7 mins by car. There are many other beaches and seaside towns within 10-15 mins drive. Also of great interest is the medieval walled town of Pals(15mins) and Peratallada(20mins). Since this region was the home to Salvador Dali, you can visit his castle at Pubol (20mins), his museum at Figueres (45mins) and his summer house (absolutely fascinating) at Port Lligat((1hr). These are approximate drive times.

La Colina is approached by a steep private drive with parking for 2-3 cars. There is a gate leading to the entrance on the ground floor which opens to a hallway and a twin bedroom and shower room. A further door reveals a dressing area and a double bedroom with shower room. Both bedrooms have sea and country views.

There is a separate entrance to the main house approached by steps to the front door which opens into a very spacious living area and immediately you see the stunning views of sea and countryside from the expanse of glass doors on two sides of the room. Comfortable seating and dining furniture is in abundance and further seating and dining is provided on the south facing terrace which leads directly off the living room. The kitchen is set back from the living area with a laundry room leading off, housing washing machine and tumble dryer. At the side of the house near the laundry room is an outside clothes drying area.

A hallway leads to the bedroom area where there is a double bedroom with en suite bathroom and glass sliding doors to the poolside terrace. There are a further two twin bedrooms each with glass doors to the poolside terrace and these two rooms share a bathroom. Four of the five bedrooms enjoy sea and country views and each is well equipped with clothes storage facilities. The double beds are each 160 cm and single beds 90 cm width. If there are 11 people in your group an additional folding bed can be provided on request. This is narrower than the normal single bed size and is more suitable for a child or young teenager than for an adult.

Air-conditioning is provided throughout the house as well as a wood burning stove for the winter months.

Outside you will find many areas to explore and in which to relax making this a particularly good option for two families holidaying together. The south facing terrace off the living area has comfortable seating and dining table and chairs for 10 people. The poolside terrace has sunbeds and the back garden, approached by steps from both sides of the house is a real haven, away from it all, where you can relax on the grass or in the swing seat in absolute peace and enjoy wonderful views. Garden lighting means that you can also dine al fresco in the evening as there is a built in bbq, picnic table and benches.

La Colina can be rented to smaller groups in low and mid season. Please enquire for rates.

The upper, main part of the house has separate access to the lower level and can be rented separately with full use of all facilities since the lower level consists of two bedrooms and two shower rooms so there would be no occupancy downstairs if you were a group of up to 6 people wanting to take advantage of a small group rate using just the upper part of our villa. This offer does not apply in July and August.

About Sheila Yelland

Having been involved in property rentals in the UK since 1990 it seemed a natural progression to do this in Spain where we have bought/ built four villas since 2001 and have now sold one of those villas.

I started up a company in 2001 called Spanish Haven and advertised our villas as well as villas belonging to other owners, friends and family in the Begur region. We then expanded our areas to include Greece, Portugal, Italy and Mallorca and changed the name of the company to Haven On Earth. After many successful years with our small family business we sustain a very good reputation for the personal service we provide.

Why Sheila Yelland chose Begur

La Colina is our favourite villa in which to spend time on our many 'out of season' visits to Begur. We commissioned the building of this villa which was completed in 2006 and we are delighted with the finished product which gives a spacious and comfortable living environment for holidaymakers and is a second home for us.

What makes this villa unique

We love waking up to the ever changing views of sea and countryside and the peaceful environment of this area. The south facing garden and terraces give wonderful sunset views and the rear garden area is a real haven of peace to retreat to for some quiet time! La Colina is perfect for year round stays due to its southerly facing aspect and we have a very efficient heating/cooling system and wood burning stove for alternative warmth and atmosphere in the winter months. We installed fixed line internet which gives high speed connection; essential for us as we are both working. This year we installed a large flat screen TV to complement the full sky plus service. The lower level of the villa is by separate access making more space in the living area as there are no internal stairs. This also creates a penthouse apartment for smaller group rentals!

We so enjoy staying in our villa and continue to delight in visiting surrounding coastal villages and medieval towns. The feedback we receive from our guests is always very positive which makes our efforts to create a comfortable and inviting holiday home all worthwhile.

  • All the bedrooms are of good size with wardrobe and storage. Three of the five bedrooms are en suite. There are two double and three twin bedrooms. Access to the bedrooms on the ground floor is by separate access to the main part of the house and contains a double and a twin bedroom each with a shower room and dressing area. All bedrooms on the upper level have direct access to the surrounding terrace leading to the pool area. If you are a group of 11 people we can provide a campbed, linen and towels There is a hair-dryer on the both levels of the house.

Begur is positioned on the highest point in the area offering superb views to the surrounding countryside and coastline. Begur town offers the ideal retreat for families looking to enjoy an evening out in a traditional Spanish town brought up to date by the demands of the current holiday maker. Ample parking and a fantastic range of restaurants offering Catalan, Spanish, Italian, Cuban and more fine dining experiences at competitive rates.

The old square comes alive in the summer months with live music, traditional dancing and families enjoying a drink and some tapas before heading off to one of the many fabulous restaurants. As a family run business we own villas in Begur and spend our holidays here so there is not much we don't know about this location.

This is the unspoilt Costa Brava or Catalonia which has escaped invasion by Tour Operated holiday groups and where most of the properties are owned by Barcelonians. With an abundance of delightful coastal towns and idyllic sandy coves, this region is rarely overcrowded and has retained real Spanish charm. This is an area that you will want to return to again and again.... Every day you can find a new diversion, be it a cultural pursuit, taking the children to a waterpark, playing tennis, snorkelling, sailing, or a lazy day at one of the beautiful sundrenched sandy coves with clear water and beachfront restaurants. The coastal resorts all have a choice of waterfront restaurants, cafes and shops and it is a real pleasure to wander the little streets around the harbour fronts and enjoy the spectacular scenery of this rugged coastline. Development here has slowed right down and you will come across villas unexpectedly tucked away. No large apartment development is possible as the rugged terrain, thankfully, does not allow for this, leaving the shoreline intact with some wonderful coastal path walks.

There are many places of interest including inland medieval towns such as Peratallada, 20 minutes from Begur. This village is kept in pristine condition and has some very individually styled restaurants and shops. Visit Salvador Dali's castle which he gifted to his wife Gala, at Pubol (20 minutes Begur) and his amazing museum at Figueres (40 minutes Begur), where you cannot fail to be drawn in by the extensive and fascinating exhibits. At La Bisbal (20 minutes Begur) the streets are littered with ceramic shops and there is also an antique centre. Girona is a wonderful city to visit. The River Onyar, lined by buildings in red and ochre, divides the old city from the new. A walk up the lively riverside Rambla takes you towards the city's spiritual core and major landmark, the magnificent cathedral. Its 1680 baroque facade conceals a graceful Romanesque cloister and what is said to be the widest nave in Christendom.

Girona is commonly known as mini-Barcelona, with its own charming Ramblas and interesting shops and pavement restaurants. There is a large market here every Saturday.

Barcelona, if you crave city life, is approximately one hour by train from Flaca, where you can leave your car (20 minutes from Begur) and get right into the centre of Barcelona. Barcelona is a confident, progressive city and the classic tourist images of Spain seem firmly out of place in Barcelona's bustling central boulevards and stylish modern streets. Bareclona's style is what brings many visitors here, attracted by enthusiastic newspaper and magazine articles which make much of the outrageous architecture, user-friendly city design, agreeable climate and frenetic nightlife. Barcelona has continued to blossom from provincial city to putative European capital. When the Olympic Games had finished, the city was left with an entirely new harbour development containing the futuristic Olympic Village. The border of France is approximately one hour away but you will find all you need and more in this beautiful and charming unspoilt region of Spain, Catalonia. Be sure to take a map with you or buy one in a newsagent's store. This is an area of immense beauty and car hire is highly recommended if you want to experience the diversity of this region. It is advisable (and less expensive) to arrange Car Hire prior to your holiday.
