Beautifully restored barn with fantastic views across the countryside, Normandy

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
2 bedroom barn with log burner, garden and terrace, very private and peaceful

'La Moulinette' is a cozy barn that was entirely renovated in 2008. It is located just outside the village of 'Le Sap André' and looks down onto the valley and the river 'Le Guiel'. On the ground floor of the property is a sitting room, dining room with log burner, open kitchen and shower room with toilet. On the first floor are 2 bedrooms (1 double and 2 singles) and a toilet. The master bedroom has a balcony that looks out onto the rolling countryside. Outside, there is a small garden, private parking area and a large wooden terrace. This is the perfect place to relax with a glass of local cider and watch the cows go by!!

Lovely,peaceful week in July .

  • 5 of 5

We have just come back from a lovely weeks holiday in this charming barn conversion.

The accommodation has everything you need for a enjoyable holiday , It was clean and tidy and probably one of the most relaxing places I have stayed .

On our arrival we had trouble with our car and Nico couldn't have been more helpful even running me into the local village to pick up some supplies which we were very grateful for.

I would recommend this place to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Peaceful holiday home in Normandy

  • 5 of 5

What a lovely peaceful location! The house was perfect - clean & equipped with everything needed. Great location for touring Normandy. I would highly recommend this property. Nico was very helpful & had a selection of walks & cycle routes available for us on arrival, as requested. A bottle of cider & cheese on arrival was also a lovely touch. Ann & Michael, Ireland

Spring in Normandy

  • 4 of 5

We spent a lovely two weeks at La Moulinette in March 2015. Whilst in a very rural area, and very quiet, it took only a few minutes on the local roads to reach the 'motorway' and fast access to all parts of the region. The amount of traffic came as a surprise and the only time we encountered any slight delays was in the cities we visited. Otherwise the roads were of a high standard and empty.

The property was well maintained, clean and comfortable. Nico was on hand to greet us on arrival and was easily contactable throughout our stay.

The wood burner was supplemented by electric radiators which were welcome at this time of the year. We had to visit so early in the year for personal reasons, but I would advise coming a bit later in the year because not only was it quite cold round and about, but some of the attractions were not open for the season - having said that there were no queues anywhere.

The location of La Moulinette is ideal for touring around and all parts of the region are easily accessible as are plenty of good restaurants. Shopping is catered for at L'Aigle and to a lesser extent at Gace.

The DVD player and Sky were most welcome during the evenings.

Do try the Calvados (locally produced apple brandy) - very pleasant.

Not only were there plenty of great churches and chateau to visit but also many very picturesque towns and villages.

A bit more storage in the kitchen and a few hooks on the back of doors would be the only slight improvements I would suggest to an otherwise ideal holiday base.

We will be back again but a summer visit will be our preference.

Two wet weeks in August

  • 5 of 5

Yes the weather could have been kinder but we had a wonderfully relaxing stay and it prompted us to get out and about more, even as far as Le Mans. The setting of La Moulinette is idyllic and the welcome and attention from Leah and Nico at the beginning, during and at the end of our two weeks was first class. The accommodation was perfect for our family, including two teenage sons and the dog, and had everything we needed. Nico is a treasure trove of information on what to do, see and visit both locally and further afield. The lack of a washing machine was easily addressed by a service wash at the local laundrette and pet passport updated at the local vets thanks to his advice too. Great accomodation, rural peace and beauty, easy to get out and about to a wealth of attactions whatever your interests and wonderful hosts. I happily recommend a stay at La Moulinette.

October get-away !

  • 4 of 5

Arrived at this lovely little gite in torrential rain - however a lovely warm welcome from Nico together with a roaring log fire in the woodburner & a bottle of local cider & a camembert in the fridge made us soon forget the elements ! The gite is lovely , well equiped & the location could not be better -sitting out on the deck overlooking rolling fields & trees with a glass of wine , what more can one want ! ( I hasten to add the weather was great for the rest of the week - 23 degrees at the end of October - perfect ! ) The gite is rural but not isolated & there are plenty of attractions within a 30 mile radius - Nico very helpful in pointing areas of interest out. This is a lovely part of Normandy & we hope to be able to re-visit next year - thankyou Nico !

Rural Retreat - Great Barn Conversion

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weeks stay here this August.

The property is charming and full of character. Everything was as described in the listing.

You really feel away from it all. The views are great and the cows wandering past the really help you to unwind.

However the best part is the welcome you receive from Nico. It is great to be shown how everything works - to have a fire lit ready for you and even find some local produce in the fridge! Nico is full of local advice and ideas on where to go and when so you don't miss out on local festivals and markets. We had a great time at the cheese festival at Livarot, especially the cheese eating competition.

The other review are spot on about location and days out -

Would recommend to all.
