Old stone house in town centre with garage, parking and large sun terrace

Updated: 20-Oct-2016
recently renovated, well equipped, 3 bedrooms plus sofa-bed, sleeps 6+.

Old stone town house with shady central courtyard situated just off the main square and very convenient for all amenities. Renovated to provide modern conveniences but retains its individual character and charm. It can accommodate 6+ people (2 bedrooms with double bed;1 with twin beds; double sofabed in lounge) and has private parking. Above the lounge is a large sun terrace 30m2 and below is an open cellar with ping-pong. The kitchen/dining room is on the 1st floor; double bedroom, bathroom with wc and separate wc on 2nd floor; 2 bedrooms on 3rd floor and another wc with shower on the ground floor. Heating by electric radiators and woodburning stoves. A cot and high chair are available but this house may not be suitable for young children or those who have a problem with stairs.Views of Canigou and the surrounding mountains from the upper windows and terrace.Space for a small car in garage and there is off- road parking in front of it.

Festivals in and around Prades: Every year during the summer there are a number of festivals and cultural events, the most well-known worldwide being the Pablo Casals Chamber Music Festival in August. Accommodation can be hard to find at this time.

Great week in the Pyrenees spent walking in the mountains. This place is a delight with everything you need. We were so lucky to book this at short notice. Many thanks for a lovely stay.

Perfect base to explore

  • 5 of 5

Fantastic house. Accommodated the 6 of us without any problems.

Plenty of space for our teenagers. So convenient in the centre of town, and watching the fireworks on the church tower from the top balcony was a real bonus. The owner and caretaker were really welcoming, helpful and flexible. Highlights included evening wine on the top patio, day trips to Spain, swimming in the gorge hear Peyrepeteuse and walking from the house to the Siphon. Would definitely consider staying again. Thank you

We didn't want to leave

  • 5 of 5

We don't usually stay in properties near town centres, but we had such a great time and really enjoyed being able to walk to the shops and cafe's. The house was an absolute joy and cycling or walking from the house was also easy. There is so much to do in the area including walking to the local monasteries.

A charming village house with a terrace giving mountain views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 6 nights in this spacious and tasteful home. Everywhere was spotlessly prepared and well-stocked and we particularly appreciated having supplies like washing-up liquid and kitchen roll to hand. The house is full of light, the beds really comfortable and the bathrooms modern. At ground floor level is a charming and shady courtyard to sit out in, surrounded by flowering plants and on the upper floor a lovely large terrace has views onto the Pyrenees - perfect for evening sundowners. The location couldn't be better - just off the main square yet very peaceful and with easy parking. The big market is on Tuesday mornings and there's a smaller farmers' market on Saturdays. We spent time exploring the mountains to the north and the Roussillon wine estates and would love to return for the annual Chamber Music Festival. The English owner is very helpful and efficient and her local representative gave us a charming welcome. We have no hesitation in highly recommending this listing.

Prades town house

  • 5 of 5

A lovely 3 story house in the centre of Prades. Quiet location just off the main square. My 3 teenage children loved the layout with a roof terrace and a cellar with table tennis. There is loads of space for bikes or sports equipment .Prades is ideally located to explore the Pyrenees Orientale and the Pays Cathare .There is lots to see and do . Prades has everything you need ,restaurants, boulangeries ,banks ,supermarkets and the whole time you have Mont Canigou to view from the house

Centrally located and well-equipped house

  • 5 of 5

We were 3 adults and 2 teenage girls and we very much enjoyed our week's stay at Maison l'Oranger, which is located just off the town square and has its own small parking space. This quirky house has been sympathetically renovated and is extremely well-equipped; there is a little nook for everyone to escape to, whether they seek sun, shade or television. Prades itself is a pleasant town with many amenities, some cafes, restaurants, shops, central supermarket and tourist information, as well as the bustling weekly market. There is also plenty to see around Prades itself. We enjoyed Villefranche with its 800 steps up to Fort Libéria, the lake beach at Vinça, woodland walk from Abbaye St Michel de Cruxa and around the Lac de Bouillouses in the hills. Jane was very responsive and helpful during the booking process and we were met by Rachel when we arrived who showed us everything and gave us plenty of information. It was very hot whilst we were there and we were grateful for the fans that were provided. We would recommend this property and location, and hope you have as good a time there as we did.

From the Owner

Prades is situated in a beautiful and varied area with access to many activities and places of interest and a wonderful climate. The house is just of the central main square. It is an old stone house, one of the oldest in Prades, and was in need of considerable renovation when bought in 2006. It has retained a unique and homely charm, much appreciated by guests.
