We spent a total of 19 days in Puerto Viejo. We spent the 1st part of our time in town with all the hustle and bustle, which was fun, we got to know the town and many wonderful places and people.
We then spent 10 nights in the lower unit at Casa Galim, what a REFRESHING break! A mere 2 miles from town that seemed like a world away. Secluded and quiet with the exception of the crashing waves. Very private with a beautiful black sand beach a few footsteps away, sloths 20 feet from our front door, beautiful birds, butterflies and so much more. We rented a 4-wheel drive vehicle, which we recommend if you want to go to town for supplies, dinner or visit nearby beaches, parks and attractions. A vehicle is not necessary as there is taxi service to the rental.
Yosi and Esther are wonderful gracious hosts and were very helpful with recommendations for fabulous places to eat and visit. We enjoyed their company and our conversations very much. They set us up with Tino, a guide at Manzanilla National Refuge, who was fabulous, we learned so much. Manzanilla is breathtaking. Yosi also went with us to BriBri as our guide and translator, it was probably our favorite place visited. Yosi & Esther are very in tune with nature and the natural resources. They use solar power, collect rainwater, use gravity system to move the water, and so much more. They are very respectful to the environment and their guests. We loved the company of their dogs Motex and Johnny. Yosi, we didn’t mention the dogs first, LOL.
The home is comfortable and welcoming and has everything you need. We would recommend Casa Galim to anyone apart from those who like a sterile luxury type environment. This place is unique and can’t be found just anywhere! Remember, you are in the jungle here! We are Wisconsin, Upper Michigan tent campers so we are accustomed to nature and all it offers up. This is a whole different level of awe and beauty! We will be back!
