About the property

1 Bedroom stone house in the centre of town

The Petit Puit is midway down a quiet meandering lane in the very centre of town a short stroll away from the boutiques, restaurants and cafes, for which St Remy is renowned.

The house dating from 1750 has beamed ceilings, a winding stone staircase and exposed stone walls and quirky niches. lounge with Sat TV, WiFi, DVD, large stone fireplace, spacious kitchen/dining room with fridge, cooker/stove and dining table with seating for 5.

New Shower room fully tiled with walk in shower and new WC, completed May 2016. Bedroom with feature 4 poster double bed and pretty painted wardrobe.

The house is across from a small leafy square. The ground floor comprises entrance into living room with open stone fireplace, leading to hallway and bathroom. On through is the spacious kitchen/diner. Stone staircase leads to bedroom with 4 poster, 2 chests of drawers and wardrobe.

To the rear of the bedroom is a door leading to outside space suitable for drying towels/clothes.

Free parking is available close to the house.

St Remy, birthplace of Nostradamus and home to Vincent Van Gogh while he was in the sanatorium here. This was the psychiatric hospital where VanGogh committed himself after he cut his own ear off. Here, he did more than 100 pieces of art, many of which were his most important and most famous paintings. This is a 'must-see' for the area. It’s a self-guided walking tour with placards in English.

You can see the actual walls and gardens in the spots that inspired Van Gogh. There are placards that show a copy of his painting, in the spot where he stood to paint it. This allows you to compare the painting to how the exact spot looks today. For many spots, the similarities are amazing.

About Tim & Jenny Pope

Tim & Jenny Pope. We both love Provence and particularly this area around the Alpilles, We spent 16 years in Germany working and then back to England for 12 years to Somerset which was wonderful in many ways but then we decided to buy some property in Provence. We are currently developing a house in nearby Eyragues. We also manage/ rent other properties in St Remy de Provence.

Tim & Jenny Pope purchased this house in 2009

Why Tim & Jenny Pope chose Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

We both fell in love with this house immediately and loved it's character and charm. It is ideal for visitors to St Remy who want 1 bedroom and a homely feel. Many couples want the independence and privacy of a house instead of a multi-national hotel with generic rooms etc.

What makes this house unique

Right in the historic center of St Remy just a stones throw away from the shops, cafes & restaurants. No need to drive out to eat.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Quaint little house a stones throw from every where. Exactly as described. Absolutely stunning

  • 5 of 5

Tim and Jenny were amazing hosts. They were always available to give advice. We loved their house - it is exactly as described and less than a minutes walk from the shops, restaurant and supermarket. Free parking is available close by.

This is the perfect base for a holiday in Provence. Look no further. This is the place to stay

Location, location.

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location, lots of interior space, very well equipped kitchen with lots of food choices in close proximity, no cooking required just heat and serve. Very quiet. Stairs a bit tricky but good lighting for them. Wifi worked fine. Several English tv channels. Definitely recommend this spot.

Charming old stone house for 2

  • 5 of 5

We had a very nice two week stay in September. The interior is mostly stone, but it didn't seem cold or damp. There is a place where you have to duck to get from the living room to the kitchen/bath, but it didn't take long to get used to. We used Saint Remy mostly as a base for day trips and never were more than an hour from what we wanted to see. Tim and Jenny are very nice and are knowledgeable about the area. Saint Remy is charming and well connected to the rest of provence. We're glad we stayed in this house in the old town

Charming and tranquil haven

  • 5 of 5

This charming stone house was everything we hoped for - quirky, peaceful and tres à la français, we explored Provence from this lovely centre. The house is pretty and well equipped, really quiet and perfectly located - we visited Arles and the Camargue, Avignon and I'ile sur la Sorgue to name a few. A very special thank you to Jill, who was warmth and friendliness personified, and made us feel entirely welcome despite our delayed arrival. Thank you to Tim and Jenny for making this a happy and easily organised stay.

Old Provence with villages and towns nestling either side of the Alpilles mountains. Warm summers long warm Autumns. Cold crisp short winters. Colourful Springtime, the scene of many of Van Goghs works. Points of interest include Arles with its Roman Amphitheatre, Avignon with its Palace of the Popes. Pont de Gard with its original Roman aquaduct. Les Baux a hilltop village with stunning views of the Camargue and a Fort with working siege machines. Bike rentals in Town, rates on application.

How about a day out driving through the Provence and the Luberon in a chauffeur driven Classic Jaguar Sovereign, options include a tour & lunch outside under shady trees at a vineyard overlooking Mount Ventoux. Or perhaps wine tasting in the Alpilles followed by lunch at Le Bistro du Paradou (made famous in Peter Mayle's 'A year in Provence') Cost €35 per hour.
