About the property

1 Bedroom stone house in the centre of town

The Petit Puit is midway down a quiet meandering lane in the very centre of town a short stroll away from the boutiques, restaurants and cafes, for which St Remy is renowned.

The house dating from 1750 has beamed ceilings, a winding stone staircase and exposed stone walls and quirky niches. lounge with Sat TV, WiFi, DVD, large stone fireplace, spacious kitchen/dining room with fridge, cooker/stove and dining table with seating for 5.

New Shower room fully tiled with walk in shower and new WC, completed May 2016. Bedroom with feature 4 poster double bed and pretty painted wardrobe.

The house is across from a small leafy square. The ground floor comprises entrance into living room with open stone fireplace, leading to hallway and bathroom. On through is the spacious kitchen/diner. Stone staircase leads to bedroom with 4 poster, 2 chests of drawers and wardrobe.

To the rear of the bedroom is a door leading to outside space suitable for drying towels/clothes.

Free parking is available close to the house.

St Remy, birthplace of Nostradamus and home to Vincent Van Gogh while he was in the sanatorium here. This was the psychiatric hospital where VanGogh committed himself after he cut his own ear off. Here, he did more than 100 pieces of art, many of which were his most important and most famous paintings. This is a 'must-see' for the area. It’s a self-guided walking tour with placards in English.

You can see the actual walls and gardens in the spots that inspired Van Gogh. There are placards that show a copy of his painting, in the spot where he stood to paint it. This allows you to compare the painting to how the exact spot looks today. For many spots, the similarities are amazing.

About Tim & Jenny Pope

Tim & Jenny Pope. We both love Provence and particularly this area around the Alpilles, We spent 16 years in Germany working and then back to England for 12 years to Somerset which was wonderful in many ways but then we decided to buy some property in Provence. We are currently developing a house in nearby Eyragues. We also manage/ rent other properties in St Remy de Provence.

Tim & Jenny Pope purchased this house in 2009

Why Tim & Jenny Pope chose Alpilles

We both fell in love with this house immediately and loved it's character and charm. It is ideal for visitors to St Remy who want 1 bedroom and a homely feel. Many couples want the independence and privacy of a house instead of a multi-national hotel with generic rooms etc.

What makes this house unique

Right in the historic center of St Remy just a stones throw away from the shops, cafes & restaurants. No need to drive out to eat.

Enjoyed our stay

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here a week and, as other reviewers have said, this is a delightful location, great hosts, and charming house. We enjoyed the fireplace and décor, and truly appreciated Tim's and Jenny's day trip suggestions (5 different days of sight-seeing). Although the city was doing some construction in the open area adjoining the house, it was not a problem and the end result will be wonderful for future renters, a fountain and open space in the old city. Nearby restaurants are great, and we had fresh bakery items every day for breakfast. Saint Remy is a wonderful location from which to explore Provence without the need to stay in a different place each night. All in all, many thanks to Tim and Jenny for making it all possible.

Special time in the heart of Saint Remy

  • 4 of 5

What a quirky place to stay in. The whole place was well appointed with everything you could need. The stairs up to the master bedroom could be an issue for some if you were less able. The location for us, was perfect. We could open the shutters in the morning and let the sun stream in and feel we were back in time. Yet you could walk out in minutes be in the bustling little town. A very comfortable stay in a peaceful quiet property. Thanks Tim for picking us up in Avignon and dropping us back. Thanks Jenny for the great welcome and familiarization of the place. Well done guys

St Remy de Provence

  • 4 of 5

Location in St Remy was great. Property was clean, comfortable and well kept. Having the bathroom downstairs from the bedroom was a bit of a bother, but not much one can do with a historic property. Tim and Jenny, the hosts, were helpful and friendly.

We enjoyed touring the St Remy area, especially Carrieres de Lumieres near Les Baux - don't miss it.

Lovely old and interesting house in centre of St Remy de Provence

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in Tim and Jenny's lovely house for 2 weeks over Christmas with Ned our black lab. The house was just as described but even more quirky and welcoming than we had hoped. It was so nice to be so close to the centre of St Remy (which is of course touristy) but really enjoyable and a great base to see Provence where we hadn't been for many years. We did a lot of walking in the Alpilles with Ned which was much better than we had hoped but we did have the most beautiful weather for the two weeks. Thank you Tim and Jenny for a really lovely and unusual house to stay in and best wishes for the New Year.

The perfect place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Provence & we felt so lucky to have found the perfect place to stay. First - I cannot say enough good things about Tim & Jenny. Very responsive, and just extremely nice & friendly people. Jenny put us at ease immediately after a long and somewhat harried travel day. And the house is wonderful. So charming, very clean, comfortable and quiet - which are always the criteria I look for when booking a place. The kitchen is bigger than ours at home and has everything you need. We ended up having dinner in every night but one. We bought food at the Wed. market (not to be missed!) as well as the regular market a few steps away. There are bolangeries, fromageries, and a wonderful wine shop very close. And we discovered a shop (I can't remember the name ) where a man sells the best takeaway food all prepared by his mother. We had lasagna that was like no other we've ever had and an incredible vegetable tart. There are rotisserie game hens, and other meats and lots of salads and side dishes - makes for delicious, inexpensive and locally made dinner. St.Remy is a wonderful village - just the right size and situated perfectly for day trips. We would visit St. Remy again in a heartbeat and if we did, I would not even look around for a place to stay. I would just call Tim & Jenny - and maybe invite them to dinner, because it would feel like visiting old friends.

Owner's Response: You were lovely guests and we'd enjoy having dinner with you next time! I think that the delicatessen was called something "Pintade". I once had the best salmon/spinach pie from there on a recommendation. You've been typical of most of our guests - lots of lovely people. I guess we've been lucky. Hope to see you again. Best regards, Tim & Jenny Pope

Delightful house in the heart of St Remy with bags of charm and really well equipped .

  • 5 of 5

This lovely house was exactly as described and was a real delight. Authentic and also very well equipped . Its location is perfect -cannot beat opening your front door and being a few minutes stroll to a boulangerie and indeed the heart of St Remy. Yet the little street it is in- is quiet and peaceful.
