ideal country base to explore Normandy

  • 5 of 5

We loved the quaint yet spacious house with little homely extras. It was so near the forest of Cerisy, which has great off road trails for even the young family cycling. A bakery in the next village with lovely bread and cakes. It was in a great location near to Bayeux , enabling exploration to Honfleur, the D D beaches and memorials, Caen, Pegasus bridge, St Mere Eglise.

The house was well equipped , we could not fault it .

Pretty cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We took our 3 dogs abroad for the first time. The cottage was just right. Nice size garden and walks nearby plus the forest walks a 10 min car ride away. The location was perfect. Nice and quiet but great for Bayeux and the empty sandy beaches! We didn't miss the TV which had bad reception. We took cards, Dominoes and DVD's and books and there's plenty more DVD's at the cottage. We lit the fire, glass of wine in hand and just relaxed. Dogs loved the fire. Friendly neighbours up the road to practice the French too.

This is our second stay at this wonderful cottage, and would definitely return again.

  • 5 of 5

Staying at this cottage is like walking into a fairy tale; all that was missing was for the seven dwarves to appear! This is our second two week stay at this property, and we would definitely do it again. The setting is beautiful yet very accessible to everything we needed. It is a super location that makes it easy to do day trips throughout Normandy. It was so relaxing to return at the end of the day, make a simple dinner and sip a glass of wine, toasting to a great day. There are two bakeries within a few minutes drive which kept us supplied with fresh baguettes and croissants! The cottage is very comfortable with a modern kitchen. The process of booking was very easy. Corresponding with Tessa through the site's message system was so easy and helpful. We were met at the cottage by Louise who explained all the important FAQs. Louise is a gem! In addition the welcome packet we received prior to our stay was filled with very good information.

WOW, first As for the web site where the property is listed we must note that everything concerning property concerning the description, manuals cleaning, equipment, maintenace , and service and instructions from eve to departure is more than excellent.

Stay in that gite meant that everything you always wanted like having your Holiday in France considering that only a short period that gite was yours it actually was. Position of the same and equipmnent in it makes you forget your problems and fatigue, and to say that this holiday that is really that.

Unforgettable peace that goverment there, nature and animals near from you elicits smile in every breath, close every place you wanted to see is on short rides, shop for supply and preparing meals is few kilometers from the property, and when return planned trips chose from a big variety and offers drop whatever you want to spice end of the day, just imagine that each spends evenings peace in front of the house browsing clips and memories of that day with bottle of Calvados or cider and only the sounds of nature and sound of your voices. None does not interfere with your enjoyment and then sleeping in the real sense so you will be little scare of silence around you, the morning coffee and tea with the sounds of morning, believe me coffee or tea has not the same taste as when you return to reality of return from there. Regarding environment at day pass in morning literally 2 vehicles all exudes peace and sounds that you have not used to listening to the city. If you want a morning's pastries and bread and you not purchased a day before you have available bicycle so if you want, you can take in the bakery away from you 3 km driving by nature and local roads. Use all senses while you are there and you will not regret because this gite and environment deserve that.

Secluded and peaceful but within easy reach of areas we wanted to visit. Modern facilities mixed with charm of cottage. We had the best time. We were befriended by a cat who actually bought her kittens along to show us. We felt very privileged. The people were so welcoming and very polite about our appalling attempts at speaking French!! Garden sitting roughly west meant we had sun til it set so enjoying a large glass of wine at the end of the day was perfect wind down. Will definitely look at coming back. The area is brimming with heritage and culture and even the occasional rain couldn't dampen our spirits even for a moment. Louise lovely. We owe her large glass next time we come. Would highly recommend. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home

Very quaint cottage central located to many points of interest in Normandy.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the cottage, the patio and surrounding area.

The description of the cottage was extremely accurate and eve though located outside the village the directions in the welcome packet allowed us to easily find the location.

I think the cottage is the perfect size for two to four people.

The internet worked well and we have descent cell telephone service.

The kitchen provided everything we needed for the meals we prepared at the cottage.

I would provide two suggestions to make future stays more desirable:

* A clothes dryer would be nice

* A new mattress for the double bed.

Overall we enjoyed our stay and decided on the rental because of recommendations from our friends.

Le Moulin du Temple is a charming stone cottage in a very peaceful rural setting situated outside the village of Planquery, 2km from the town of Balleroy and 17km from historic Bayeux. The surrounding district is perfect for walking, running and bike riding (2 bikes + 1 child's bike provided) to explore the countryside and the Forest of Cerisy, just 3km away.

Take a 2-minute drive, or 10-minute walk to Planquery Pools which has been recently renovated and boasts fishing pools, tennis courts, a bar/grill and a limited play area.

5 minutes' drive into Balleroy you will find the famous Chateau with its hot air balloon museum, shop and tearoom, as well as bakeries, bars, post office and shops in the town itself.

The city of Bayeux with its cathedral, tapestry, restaurants, market, boutiques and hypermarkets is well worth a visit. The Saturday market is a stunning place to pick up fresh produce.

The Normandy beaches famed for the D-Day landings, but now a great place on a summer's day, are only 25km away, with lots of war museums nearby for rainy days.

The historic city of Caen is just 30 mins away by car and the breathtaking Mont St Michel is only 1 hour away for a day trip.

Honfleur, a harbour nearby is a must. It was popular with Impressionist painters like Monet and Boudin. They found its changing light and picturesque quays inspiring. On Saturday, visit the town's lively market and stock up on local cheese.
