Why The Owner chose Lake Linden

This home is one of only 3 houses on the whole Little Rice Lake. It is as private as any other place on the two lake chain. It comes with a nice beach house only feet from the shore. Deer and wild turkeys are seen on the property almost daily. It is close to towns and other things to do in the Keweenaw. History of the old mining days is everywhere. You can take tours into several mines. You can visit old ghost towns. You can pick blueberries in the yard or at a pick your own farm down the road. Wild berries of all kinds are available on plenty of public ground. Fish from the dock or canoe, kayak, boat or shore. Hunting for many birds and animals is only a short walk or ride away from the house. This is not located within a town. The closest town is 7 miles away. Your hosts are very familiar with the entire area and are very helpful in helping you plan your vacation. Many have said this was the best vacation that they have ever had. We hope you can say that one day soon. Come vacation at our home.

We loved it!

  • 5 of 5

We dropped our son off at Michigan Tech and stayed here for less than a hotel. Grandparents came, too, so we were all able to stay for a very reasonable price. The house was perfect with 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, plenty of seating in the family room and an old record player with a fun record collection. We were 18 miles from campus along a very scenic drive and were in a great location for exploring the Keewanaw Pennisula and MTU during the day and sitting around the campfire and star gazing at night. The owner also delivered loaves of homemade bread during our stay. Delicious!

Owner's Response: What a wonderful family you have. Michigan tech is getting a fine young man as a new student. It was a pleasure hosting your visit. We are glad you enjoyed your vacation. We hope you see you soon. Jimmy

Not what we were expecting; not enough privacy

  • 1 of 5

No fishing, not enough privacy, and advertisement is not what it seems.

It may serve someone's needs, but it did not serve ours. We left after one night even though we had booked 3. We did get a partial refund back, but not all. It was very disappointing.

The size of the cabin was perfect for our family of six. Having two bathrooms is a big help.

  • 4 of 5

We wished the cabin was right on the shore of the lake rather than having a 200 foot walk down. The lake itself was too weedy for fishing but it was very pretty and great for kayaking or canoeing and there is the channel that takes you out to Big Rice Lake if you want to do some good fishing. The cabin was very clean, plenty of sheets, towels, a kitchen that has everything you need to cook any type of meal. There was no TV, but we didn't go Up North to watch TV. Overall it was a very good experience.

Property #4312031

  • 1 of 5

#1. The description of the property says "located on the shores of Little Rice Lake", leading a renter to believe that the property is located ON the lake, which is NOT TRUE. We could not even SEE the lake from the cottage. AND, after taking a walk down the trail to the lake, it was all mush walking up to the shore line. No dock.

#2. It is not a COTTAGE. It is a trailer with additions to it. The interior was very poorly constructed. One of the toilets leaned and wiggled when you sat on it. My husband sat on one of the chairs in the screened in porch and fell through because it was so rotted.

#3. The owner entered the so-called cottage when we were not there. He had no permission from us to enter when we were not there. We, as renters, have rights too.

#3. The owner complained to us that we did not vacumn before we left. Whoever heard of a renter having to vacumn before they left??

#4. The owner also complained that we used electricity to charge our golf cart (I am handicapped and use this golf cart to get around). He was informed before renting that I was bringing up an electric golf cart. When I use it, of course I have to charge it!!

We were very disappointed with this rental overall. I guess in the future I know what I will be getting for that amount of money per night.

THE DESCRIPTION OF THIS PROPERTY NEEDS TO BE REVISED. There are misleading descriptions as to the "value" a renter gets from this rental.

Regards,

Chris & Nancy George

Owner's Response: We are sorry that you had misunderstandings about our cottage. It is a double wide that has been enhanced by the additional bedroom, a 12'x12' screened in porch opening from the dining room, and a covered 6 foot by 22 foot porch at the front entrance. Since your visit we have also added a new separate porch entrance from the screen porch. The home is older but it is very well taken care of. We have also replaced the bathroom flooring with a nice new vinyl . We also put a new vinyl floor in one of the bedrooms. Your furniture problem has been addressed with replacement furniture that is stronger. It was our understanding per a phone conversation with you that you wanted a maintenance issue addressed. You were there and allowed our maintenance man in after you requested assistance. He was courteous and took care of your issue in a timely manner. We would never enter the house when it's occupied by a renter without permission. I knew that you were bringing a golf cart. I did not know that you would expect us to pay for the energy required to operate it. I supposed it was gas operated. You went into our private garage to plug in the heavy duty battery charger. Had it been a gas operated golf cart would you have expected me to pay for it's fuel? Due to it's high cost in the UP, electricity is held very dear.

Rustic cottage near the water is a better title

  • 3 of 5

The directions were easy to follow and we arrived without delay. The road is gravel but is in the process of being paved. The cabin was very clean and well stocked with kitchenware. The place is rustic and dated, so if that's not your style this is not your place. The TV was not set up and could only play VHS tapes. The access to the lake was nice, but expect a walk down a trail from the cabin to get there. It is not a lake view property. We did see a new fawn and baby ducks on the trail though and very much enjoyed fishing and kayaking on the little lake. The last night there we had some kind of critter crawling in the walls keeping us awake. The charms of the UP. The owners kept in constant contact with us from start to finish with calls and texts but there are no written rules or instructions found on the property like other Homeaway properties we have stayed in. The owners are very friendly and accommodating and let us know in advance that the place was available to extend our stay if we wanted. We were between a three and four star rating with this property and with a few upgrades it would be rated higher.
