Amazing view!
The view from this property across the lake with the mountains in the background was amazing. The garden was full of birds, including many hummingbirds. The owner gave very clear directions to the property and how to use the hot tub. The location was great to visit the hot springs and various eco reserves.

Lovely setting, FALSE ADVERTISING
My family stayed at this home for a week over a month ago. I have addressed concerns with the owner and since he has never responded, followed up, or changed the ammenities and information listed, I feel that I should warn other potential guests of the misleading information advertised with this home. Daily house keeping is advertised and this is not true. During our week stay, Emilce came twice. I contacted the property manager as well as the owner about this and was told daily house keeping is no longer provided unless requested. I then requested it as it was very important that we be able to wash laundry as we always pack light when renting homes with laundry machines, and the laundry room at this house is kept locked and only accessible by the housekeeper. When she did come on day 3, she arrived with a hand crank portable washing machine and explained that the truth was the washing machine in the laundry room had been broken for some time and had never been replaced by the owner. She said the only way for us to wash our clothes and the house towels and linens was to let her do it since it is a crank machine. This was a mistake as our delicates and underwear came out torn and chewed up. The other issue with not having daily cleaning service or any manual about upkeep of the home was the trash and waste disposal. There are very tiny waste buckets in the bathrooms and all toilet paper must be put into the waste buckets. These began to overflow on day 2 as did the kitchen trash since we were cooking our meals. This home does not supply hair blow dryers, and again, we did not pack those as every home I have ever rented at this price range always has those basics. Many of the screens are torn or separated from the doors and need maintenance. The paint on the pool also needs maintenance. The photos for this home need to be updated as they are going on 3 years old and vegetation is vastly different. This is a lovely home, in a spectacular setting with amazing views. It just needs maintenance and management. I cannot forgive the false advertising though, particularly when there has been plenty of time to correct it.

Unbelievable home and setting
Our family of 7 absolutely LOVED every minute of our stay at Jim’s lovely home! From the moment we got there, we were in awe of the incredible views, the property, and home. Arenal is a magical place and we truly enjoyed feeling at home relaxing on the balconies, playing in the pool, enjoying in the hot tub, going on walks around the property, sighting wildlife, and taking in the majestic views of the volcano, Arenal and lake Arenal. We couldn’t have wanted anything more and I wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you to Jim, for being so responsive and helpful with everything.

Beautiful and Peaceful
We loved our time at this property, our only regret is not staying longer. Communication was very prompt when needed. The rooms were very comfortable and clean. I liked be out if the busy town of La Fortuna but close enough to have a short drive to anything we wanted to do in the area,

Beautiful home and Lake View
The house is nice and well appointed (even rice maker). Beautiful woodwork. Clean and nicely kept grounds. Lots of birds and some other wildlife spotted. The location is quite and remote the last mile in is a little rough but managed in Suzuki vitara. It’s located near some things to do but we found ourselves driving into La fortuna several times, it’s 30min so plan accordingly.

From left to right: Jim, Wes, Josie, Robin. Our family first visited Costa Rica in 2010 and fell in love with the Arenal area. Two years later, we spent our first week in the new house. Jim and Robin are retired and split our time between our US residence and Costa Rica.

Why they chose this property

You'll hear many stories about people that visit Costa Rica and experience an epiphany or an awakening. That's what happened to us. We began searching for land in Aug 2010 and found the Old Ceiba Tree lot and we completed construction in the Fall of 2012. There is an energy that one can feel when you are there; it's indescribable but undeniable. Once you experience it, you'll be going back over and over.

What makes this property unique

We designed the home to bring the outdoors and indoors together. There are floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors that open to lake and volacano views. The cool mountain breezes flow thoughout the home. The temperatures average about 75°F year round so no air conditioning is necessary (but optionally available in the bedrooms). We get our pure crystal clear soft water from a mountain spring ('naciente') that is about 6km in the virgin cloud forest. At night the temperatures typically drop about 10° and in December and January you might even need to put a fleece on to stay warm. Being on the edge of the rain forest, we get a lot of rain but if you wait an hour the weather will change and when the sun pops out be careful because you can get a sunburn even when the sky is overcast (ask Josie). Each room has a terrace facing the lake/volcano side of the house. Be prepared to rise early to the sounds of howler monkeys that frequently spend the night in our guarumo tree (a favorite hangout for all kinds of monkeys and birds) or the cacaphony of loras (red-lored parrots) that reside in the area.
