About the property

3 bedroom with condtioned air villa to sleep 6 Sicily, island sublime.

There's only one place in the world where, after anoriginal granita-based breakfast, you can spend the morning walking amid the magnificent mosaics of afourth century Roman villa; then lunch on the delicacies of the area, excellent fresh fish accompanied by a wine tha will take you by surprise.

where you can pass trough mediaveval villages and pristine historics centres, wheter you are on your way down to crystal-clear seas lapping white sandy beaches, or to anature reserve where the Mediterranean vegetation provides a backdrop of colour and fragrance to the nests of breeding flamingos. Where you can end the day surrounded by the sheer perfection of a Greek amphitheatre, watching a Classical play of unparalleled charm.

Or where you can end the evening strolling trough enchanting streets, following in the footsteps of Federico fellini and Greta Garbo, Oscar Wilde and Goethe , overwhelmed by the at once disturbing and breathtaking presence of Europe's largest active volcano. The place, wth all its seductive beauty, is Sicily. But one thing at a time. Let's start at the end.

There is a lesser-know side to this land lessed with a beauty and abundance- the surprisingly beatiful little mountain or fishing villages, each of which seems to hold an architecultural or landscape-related gem. Take for exampleCefalù, with its famous Duomo, Gangi with its town houses, the village of Longi and its castle wich belong to the exclusive circuit of the most beatiful villages in Italy. Add to that Montalbano Elicona, proclaimed Italy's Borgo dei borghi (or topo village) in 2015 and its mysterious Argimusco megaliths.

It's really a rather daunting task to choose just a few of vthe profusion of places, emotions and opportunities that Sicily offers. Not so much and island as a continent - multifaceted, overflowing and seductive. Now the choise is up to you.

Sicily, island sublime. No place for clichés.

The house is an ideal place to enjoy fishing line on the rocks around, a few steps from the shore you can enjoy the surf when the wind blows during the late night catching octopus until the birth of dawn is a beautiful spectacle you can also see from the balcony terrace of one of the bedrooms from where it overlooks a picturesque seascape, this being at the center of the gulf that stretches from Capo Zafferano in Punta S. Elia and that in the days of strong wind comes alive flicker of multicolored sails came to seek shelter in this gulf.

The sea which is accessed directly from the villa through a staircase of about eighty steps it is crystal clear and it is really difficult to resist its call. Have a drink on the terrace at sunset with the lights softened by sunset the sea lapping on the stones of the coast the dim lights of the boats of fishermen is an experience that is desired that the time to stop we have a large patio where you can cook with a wood oven and barbecue bon appetit!

Going up the few steps that lead on the road, turning their backs to the sea, lies on the North side of the mountain with its Catalfano walls rarely attempted even by the ancient inhabitants who preferred to settle opposite side. Solunto is an ancient settlement, because the remains of ancient civilizations are named Solunto, Solanto, Head Zafar, Sant 'Elia, Santo Nicolicchio remains a mystery. Ancient Greek colonies? Sacred place of meeting of the Eastern peoples? (A Solunto the remains of a temple to Isis think they do).A few meters from Solunto: Bagheria and its beautiful villas of the'700. And again on the provincial direction of Termini Imerese is the ancient river Imera and the Roman waterworks, Cefalù with its magnificent cathedral and its beautiful sand beach. From the balcony and from the roof terrace there are stunning views of the sea and the bay of Capo Zafferano. The beach is right below the house. Palermo distances only 20 km.

Further information: In Sicily, 20 minutes from Palermo, a few steps from the seaside village of Porticello is the 'ZOOVILLA' BA.BU. RESORT considered one of the most beautiful mansions on the sea of the place. Owner in his travels around the world has dealt with the sale of rare animals that's why we called the house 'Zoovilla'.

There is also a short stretch of beach along the shore with very fine gravel where children can play safely. Our guests will have the opportunity to go trekking in the nearby nature reserve of Mount Catalfano.Inside the villa you will find an extensive collection of books on animals and on Sicily guides and magazines written in Italian and English. Going up the few steps leading up on the main road, turning their backs to the sea, lies the North side of the mountain with its walls Catalfano rarely attempted even by the ancient inhabitants, who preferred to settle on the opposite side. Solunto is an ancient settlement, because the remains of ancient civilizations are called Solunto, Solanto.

Further information: The villa is near Santa Flavia a small fisheman village and the archaeological site of Solunto, Bagheria with his beautiful villas is a ten minute drive, Palermo with different museums is a 30 minute drive by car, the small medieval town of Cefalu' is a 45 minute drive and is worth seeing, it is possible to go to Agrigento with his Temple Valley 1 hour drive, on the western side Trapani with the small medieval village of Erice another 1 hour drive, looking over Palermo there is Monreale with his beautiful cathedral, looking around Palermo there are San Giovanni of Lebbrosi, San Giovanni of Eremiti wonderful examples of Arab Norman style, and Palazzo dei Normanni with the Cathedral.

Further information: The house is equipped with a wireless service available 24 hours a day 24 still in the living area has a three sofa, a working fireplace, a corner bar with refrigerator and freezer also have the opportunity to consult numerous guides written in Italian in Sicily in English. In the days of south wind from behind the living room windows you can sight the island of Alicudi and when you are lucky also to Filicudi, when the sea is calm far north-east, can be seen from a terrace formation of sea foam The waves constantly slamming on a rock piercing the water rises to the surface (local fishermen the appointment 'ant', as if to establish an 'analogy between the tiny insect and the rock in the vastness of the sea). The villa has a large patio where you can cook with a wood oven and six large loaves a barbecue for excellent grilled fish, bon appetit! The villa has its own reserved parking space in the parking lot.The sea is very iodate and on some rocks.

The terrace has an area of about 200 square meters including 70 square meters were shaded by a canopy under which you can eat your meal. Is equipped with garden furniture including: comfortable chairs for sunbathing, a large umbrella, a wooden table with eight chairs, your privacy is ensured by a lush barrier of evergreen plants and trees typical of this area. The boats at anchor or in transit and the deep blue of the sea offer the eyes of the guests a magnificent spectacle. The house is an ideal place to practice angling on the rocks scattered, steps away from the shore you can surf when the wind blows, during late night and caught the octopus until dawn rise is an enchanting place you can also admire the balcony terrace of one of the bedrooms from where it overlooks a beautiful seascape, find this in the middle of the gulf .

About Marco&Francesca

My wife and I live in the city of Palermo, the home of the sea I inherited from my parents. I did do a comprehensive restructuring of the apartment and the terrace in 2014, and every year we gild the apartment and add plants in our terrace.

My wife is a teacher of English, and I before I was a wholesaler of all exotic animals and affection I am now renting my house by the sea only to foreign tourists. I called the house of the sea 'zoovilla' because inside you will find animals in ceramic, wood, iron, and maybe next year you will find birds in a small aviary that is located on the terrace.

My wife and I live in Palermo and when our house is not rented we dive into this place of peace and tranquility. The distance to go to Palermo is 25 km, but it is more convenient to take the train that takes you to the city of Palermo in only 20 minutes. You live in this small fishing village, eating all foods fresh and the best thing that you are away from the smog and traffic and noise of a city like Palermo.

Marco&Francesca purchased this villa in 1958

Why Marco&Francesca chose Santa Flavia

This has always been the home of the sea where I learned to swim, to fish, to go under the water and discover all the beauties that there are in these places. My parents had built back in 1958, I was not born yet. I have and I will always have a memory of this great house, the best time to spend time in this house is at the beginning of May and after 15 September, the beach is located the house is deserted seems to be in a film will find much peace and quiet and if you are lucky as we are in Sicily also a mild weather with a chance to take a swim in the crystal clear sea and very clean.

Palermo, Monreale, and Cefalù host outstanding town hoses and sophisticated cathedrals built in the unique so-called Arab-Norman style, with characteristically massive walls, crossed arches, mosaics, and red spherical domes. ymbol of Arab cultural syncretism, trasposed by the Norman kings who by fusing the two cultures, created unsurpassed Mediaeval masterpieces, added to the UNESCO Heritage List in 2015.

What makes this villa unique

The peace and quiet in the months of less tourist influx, because in 1987 the municipality of Santa Flavia has constructed a ladder for access to all of this lovely beach. I would recommend staying in a holiday during non-tourism for those who love the sea as I've always lived in my childhood. This year we renovated the apartment and also all external spazie to provide to our guests a five-star service, we have enhanced the whole terrace in summer because 90% of the time our guests the will spend in this place, we bought a spa type jacuzzi with a powerful filter use the pool for a refreshing alternative when the sea is rough, we bought a new BBQ with cast iron plate for low-fat cooking both meat and fish in a short time. We are thrilled that our efforts have been rewarded with these wonderful reviews.

We recommend as a best period since mid- September until November in order to feel in one place of the sea as if you lived in the house of an old lighthouse for navigation.

This year 2015 we renovated the apartment and also all external spazie to provide to our guests a five-star service, we have enhanced the whole terrace in summer because 90% of the time our guests the will spend in this place, we bought a spa type jacuzzi with a powerful filter use the pool for a rinfrenscante alternative when the sea is rough, we bought a new BBQ with cast iron plate for low-fat cooking both meat and fish in a short time.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We loved the beach, the sun and the warmth of the Sicilian way of living. It was very nice, the children loved to play by the sea. Two weeks in Sicily is too short! The nature, the culture, the people and the food are great. The comfort of your house together with the sound of the sea and the lamps of the fishermen's boats in the evening we 'll not easily forget! Thanks also for being so friendly and helpful.

Could not have been any happier

  • 5 of 5

I was looking for a seaside villa in a non tourist part of Palermo and found this enchanting seaside town of Santa Flavia, and this villa provided the perfect escape for my wife and son. It has two floors both over looking the sea we went to bed with seaside waves and woke up to seagulls and seaside waves. All appliances working, rooftop deck amazing spent our mornings there, living room deck mid day, and walked down to a cleared beach area for late afternoon snacks wine and sun before heading off to dinner. Owner provides private garage for car park as well. This was a piece of paradise. 3 hours from Taormina if you want to see the whole island 45 min from historic sites and markets of Palermo... would consider for sure another trip back there

Close to Palermo without the anxiety of staying in Palermo.

  • 4 of 5

Overall, our stay at "Zoovilla" was a nice way to visit Palermo and the surrounding area, without the complications of being in the city itself. That being said, there were many things that the owners could do to make the stay a Five, instead of the generous Four that we rated the property. First, our arrival was a bit difficult due to the lack of any type of sign at the garage/gate to the house. The owner was calling us on the phone to ask when we would arrive, and we were driving up and down the street to try to find him. Marco and Francesca did come to the street and that problem was solved. Next up, the handing over of the keys....All eight of them. Yes, two sets of eight keys! One for the garage, one for the front gate, one for the gate on the stairs to get into the courtyard leading to the terrace and/or the front door, one for the gate leading to the beach, one for the gate on the beach leading to the storage area with the items for the water. (Neither one of the inflatable boats would hold air, so that didn't please me, but back to the keys). One for the front door, and one that opened the door from the kitchen to the courtyard or the bedroom door to the washer/dryer area. There was one other key, but I cannot remember what it was for. Regarding the clothes washer, for our week stay, there was only one soap gel tablet, so we ended up buying more at the store and leaving the rest. Francesca also advised us that the dryer did not work. We also would have run out of toilet paper, except that there was a bathroom in the courtyard area where we grabbed an extra roll. Little things like that happening throughout our stay made for a less than excellent stay. I realize that the owners would have probably made arraignments to provide those items if we had messaged them, but I do not like to have to be in contact with owners when I am on a weeks stay and you expect things to just be there. When I asked about the hot tub that was advertised when we booked the villa, Marco let me know it was damaged by previous guests, so he removed it. He delivered four fresh fish for one of our dinners because of that and we appreciated that. The owners live there during times that guests are not there, so many of the rooms and counters in the kitchen and bathrooms were cluttered with their personal items, leaving limited space for guests items. Probably would look elsewhere next time in Palermo.

Owner's Response: I am surprised and also disappointed that guests despite our efforts to do find everything you need not appreciate a nothing. The location of the villa is advertised on the site with the coordinates for google map and photos from any one well of the door and the garage alas, these tourists did not even have the most used application in the world of "whats up" after my insistently, and several days in the house, they have installed on your phone.  On Order: in all villas in the world both for the safety of the house itself, and for the security of your belongings, locks with keys exist. The keys are needed to be autonomous: the garage key, the door from the highway to enter the private property a key, the main entrance to the villa a key, then a key to open the security door and a unique key that opens is the door of the kitchen window and both the glass door of the laundry room, then the lock key to access the beach, remember to tourists that the beach is public if there was not this gate that allows you to go down to the beach just walking a few steps, and for the rudeness of the locals, they would use my private staircase to go back on the main road along a few easy steps with respect to the public staircase are 150 in number !!! Guests found for every hygienic service two rolls of toilet paper (3 services = 6 rolls), and also the things that let guests are liquid hand soap in the shower gel bottle, first aid kit, deodorant for service hygienic, I'm sorry you do not understand that these things are bought, periodically filled for your use and consumption. The washing machines are two just for this we do not provide products and on the site there is also written. The refrigerators of the whole property are three more special for bottles of wine, two dishwashers and related products for use provided a microwave and an electric oven at column and a wood-burning oven and a BBQ on gas, electric air conditioning one for each environment, the heating system both with electric heaters that with methane heaters. I found it nice to bring the freshly caught fish for the lack of the spa on the terrace, because I can not answer for my actions than those of the previous guests that in a week they demolished my house, in fact in 24 hours I rearranged at my expense all the environments. In the house there are all household appliances to spend a holiday with all comforts, the objects found in the kitchen or other rooms in your use and free to boot such as coffee...Thank

A lovely house, in an idyllic location

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in this villa. It was amazing to be able to step from the sun terrace down into the sea to cool down in the clear water. We loved swimming, snorkelling (lots of fish to see) and taking the kayak out on the sea too. We took advantage of the quiet bit of beach (which felt like our own) to sunbathe, as well as sunbathing on the roof terrace and the lower balconies at times, depending where the sun was.

The villa was very comfortable and fully equipped with everything we could have needed and much more. Not having to bring our own towels was a great bonus as we were travelling with just hand luggage.

Marco and Francesca were always available by phone message for anything we needed, and provided loads of useful information about things to do in the area.

We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this villa!

Shooting stars, amazing views and memories.

  • 5 of 5

Spent 9 nights in this fantastic accommodation with my family, have booked many accommodation locations on this site but by far this is the best one to date. The pictures do not do the accommodation or location justice. We normally always do so much sight-seeing but this place was so tranquil, beautiful and perfect we did not want to leave!!! The sea is so calm, fantastic to snorkel in and amazing temperature. It literally sparkle’s all day (you will understand this when you get there, mesmerizing). The accommodation is well decorated and maintained, the balcony gives you a private VIP experience all day and fab to eat out in the evening. The terrace is huge!!! There is not anything that is not accommodated there for you. The hosts were friendly and informative, to the final detail of providing local recipes for home dining Sicilian style on the balcony in the evening. Shooting stars join you to make you feel that you really are in an amazing place. Sight-seeing, you are in a good location for seeing lots. Cefalu was our favourite, worth an early start and late finish.

Thank you xxx

Wow what a view!

  • 5 of 5

Marco and Francesca were excellent hosts, going as far as picking my wife and I up from the train station and allowing us, both an early and late check in and departure. They were also very quick to reply to any queries we had.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in their wonderful villa which overlooks the sea. The property is spacious and clean, complete with everything you would need for a ten day stay (sheets, towels and even an ice maker). The highlight of the property though is the rooftop, complete, with sun beds, deck chairs, a hammock and a hot tub, all of which looks out onto the sea! There are some private steps too which allow access to the beach and sea below. Make sure to pick up some snorkelling gear to take advance of the incredibly clear sea that the villa sits on.

Thanks Marco and Francesca!
