Overview

About the property

Brand New 2 Bedroom 2 Bathroom Home With Ocean Views

Nestled in the mountains of Uvita with breathtaking views of the Whale’s Tail, this brand new house is surrounded by lush rainforest and is less than 2 miles away from town.

Wake up to the sound of toucans and enjoy your breakfast on the open kitchen island. Open the living room’s sliding doors to enjoy the ocean breeze and expansive ocean views. Jump into the infinity pool and soak in the beauty of Costa Rica’s southern coastline. Whatever you choose to do, you can’t go wrong with Pura Uvita!

------- About the Property --------

We fell in love with the location as soon as we saw the view. We had been looking for properties all over Costa Rica, and when we found this one, we immediately knew this was it. The beauty of the Osa peninsula is breathtaking and there are no words for describing how relaxing it is to be able to look right down at the whale’s tail from the comfort of your home all while in the middle of the rainforest. If you are looking for a true Costa Rican green-lush rainforest experience, the Osa peninsula is definitely the place to go.

The house was designed with a modern/industrial feel and boasts modern concrete and local wood finishes throughout. The two cedar trees that were cut to make room for the house were 100% utilized for closets, doors, and cabinets. Woods from other smaller trees were used throughout the construction process as well; our goal was to minimize waste as much as possible.

We strived to create a very open floor plan which is why you’ll find ultra high ceilings and will be able to literally open up the living room into the terrace, creating a large indoor/outdoor environment and allowing air to circulate throughout the house. The design of the ceiling along with strategic fan placement help keep the house at a very comfortable temperature so A/C is not necessary (although it is available in the bedrooms).

This is a 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom size designed to comfortably fit 4 people (2 persons per room), but it can accommodate up to 2-4 additional people (there are 2 sofa beds in the living room). There is WiFi available as well as a flat screen internet-connected TV. The kitchen is stocked with all the utensils you need to cook. Linens and towels are provided as are shampoo, conditioner, and soap.

There is an infinity pool, a large terrace and a lounging deck which could also be used for yoga.

About Andrea Chaves

Andrea is Costa Rican (a.k.a tica) and Tim is from the U.S. We live in US and we built this house in 2016 so we can enjoy the Osa Peninsula when we visit and to share our piece of paradise with people like you from all over the world.

Andrea Chaves purchased this house in 2015

Why Andrea Chaves chose Uvita

We had been looking at properties in Costa Rica for a while when we stumbled into this beautiful property. With one of us (Andrea) being from Costa Rica we were planning on building a house that would eventually become our retirement home but that could also help us show Costa Rica to people around the world.

After searching all over the country, we believe that the Southern Pacific area is the one that best showcases what Costa Rica has to offer: beautiful scenery, lush rainforests, plenty of sightseeing and adventure, and super friendly people.

What makes this house unique

The house is brand new and is only 2.6 km from downtown Uvita. You'll enjoy an incredible Ocean View while surrounded by rainforest all within a short 10 minute drive from town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Beautiful place Andrea was a great host and communicated whenever we had a question. The house was beautiful in a beautiful location in the middle of the jungle. Sadly we didn't see any wild life though & the roads can be dangerous when wet but overall it's a beautiful home and would definitely come back!

Beautiful Property

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful home found in the mountains above Uvita. Each bedroom has an ocean view and full bathroom. Showing outdoors was great. A/C worked well in the bedrooms, and wasn't really needed in the living room and kitchen area. The house is designed to maximize airflow and cooler mountain temps.

Pools was lovely. We cooked most nights after getting fresh meat and produce at the base on the mountain from BM grocery.

Owner checked up on us to make sure everything was okay. Loren, who took us to the house, was available if needed. Being our fifth trip to Costa Rica, we were there to relax.

While out the house, spent many nights listening to Toucans serenade us at sunset. There is a troop of Capuchin monkeys that comes through each afternoon, quite close. Saw Howler monkeys from a distance, and of course, heard them. We also saw a pair of Great Curassows (male and female) walking the property. Our greatest thrill was seeing a Boa Constrictor. While walking away from the laundry room/shed, one was moving back toward the forest. It was about 6 feet, and wanted nothing to do with the two idiots taking pictures w/ cell phones!

Would definitely recommend!

Amazing property that won't disappoint!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 (two boys ages 6 and 9) have just returned from 3 weeks in this property and loved every minute of our stay. The house is simple yet complete with everything we needed. It feels like a very sleek tree house, nestled into the mountainside. It is indoor/outdoor living at its best with every room having large glass sliding doors that open to the breezes coming up off the water. We were there in the Green Season so after a 3-4 day rain respite at the beginning, we had showers most afternoons or evenings. They were great reminders to take naps or turn in early to the sound of the rain.

Many mornings we awoke to the howler monkeys and most evenings we went to sleep to the croaking frogs. The showers are private but have an open ceiling so even showering is an experience. The pool was a great size for swimming with ledges for sitting and relaxing poolside. The water was cool due to the cooler temps up on the hill.

The house manager Loren is absolutely wonderful. He is a kind, gentle soul and, like all great superheroes, has a trusty sidekick named Bita. An adorable white pup who my kids adored. He was a fabulous resource for restaurant and excursion suggestions, questions and concerns during our stay. He and his wife even invited us down to his beautiful home to show us his banana trees, sugar cane and other indigenous flora.

As most before have shared, a 4x4 is a necessity for this property and the car is important for everyday excursions to the beaches, nearby towns and waterfalls. The house is about a 10 minute drive up the hill from the town and beaches but the drive up and down was an adventure in its own right -passing waterfalls, monkeys and iguana perching in trees. There was no shortage of creatures, great and small and one should expect (and appreciate) nature inside and outside the home at times. It reminded us that we are mere visitors and charged with protecting this great gift of a planet we have.

Many thanks to Andrea for all her correspondence with me prior to our visit. We began communicating with her back in the fall and she responded the same day every time - within minutes most of the time! Her warmth and her generosity with information was why we selected this property but the property itself will call us back.

We share many more reflections on our time in Uvita and Pura Uvita in a blog @ www.photosandfootnotes.com. Take a look and leave me a message if you go to visit!

Amazing house!

  • 4 of 5

We were so impressed by the construction and simplicity of the house. When I build my retirement home, this will be the design. I loved that it could be opened up to let the breeze blow through. Thanks to a bad storm that passed through the day before we arrived and some trees that came down a water pipe on someone else's property had broken and left us with no water. but the property manager, Loren, was amazingly responsive as were the crews who fixed it up, and within 2 hours, we were able to shower and do our laundry. The views were stellar and the climate was perfect. I thought the mosquitoes would be a problem-not at all. We came about 3 weeks into the rainy season. We loved all the new life in the forest. The only con bringing my rating down to 4/5 (would have given it a 4.5/5.0, actually) was that no one liked the hard beds. Softer, firm nice mattresses would be greatly appreciated. And as an FYI, 4-wheel drive low is pretty much a must as are as many visits as possible to an amazing restaurant close by called Las Laureles. Run by Cindy and her husband Best shrimp "tacos", plantains, ceviche and Margaritas I have ever had ! The pool was wonderful and refreshing...and the view, while sipping on an Imperial...the best. We also loved having a washer and dryer on site.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words on the house design. We used a local Costa Rican architect that helped us design a unique house that fits in the environment. You arrived the day after one of the biggest storms of the year. Loren (property manager) goes above and beyond to make sure power and water are up as quick as possible after one of those rare occasions when it goes down. He lives nearby on the same water and power grid so he responds quickly. As for the beds, we bought everything local in Uvita and those were some of the best mattresses available. We tried to pick a mattress that was not too firm nor too soft in order to accommodate everyone's preferences. We are sorry that weren't to your liking. We enjoyed having you as guests and hope to have you back. Pura Vida, Andrea
