Most undesirable stay ever

  • 1 of 5

I struggle in writing this review for many reasons mainly because if I were the owner Id want a chnce to correct the issues before such a negative thing was made public notice. So I post this with hopes that no other family has to endure what we did. I went to Philly to attend the funeral of who would have been my future brother in law. I wasnt leary of the area because the family I was supporting is familiar with the area and while the previous review regarding the shops/stores in the area was a negative to some, I found it was a benefit because there within walking distance was just about everything you need. The inside of the apartment on the other hand was my issue. I was traveling with my mother (60's) and the brother of the deceased. Upon arriving my mother located a bag of damp linens that smelled like they had molded on the couch in the living area. When I contacted the owner, he said he would contact the person that cleans and contact me back. He did text back and his suggestion was to take them to the laundry a few blocks down and he would reimburse me.... REALLY??? I'm here for a funeral!!! Needless to say we borrowed linen from family when we went out to go grocery shopping. We chose to rent the apartment because we wanted a real living experience while in Philly and moms diet is one that is not real flexible. When going to store our purchased items in the cupboards, there was evidence of pests (roaches). I contacted the owner again and he said he would get someone over to look at it and take care of it. It was late and we were tired so we stored as much in the fridge as possible with hopes that all was ok...

In the middle of the night we heard noices in the kitchen. There were mice in the unit. Real live mice. When I contacted the owner he said he was out of town and would contact me the next day. The next day he communicated that he got in late and had not had time to speak with his partner to see what they could do. He asked if I could give him until the next day. We checked out and his resolution was that he and his partner had agreed to return the deposit and 10% of the costs of the stay in return for my not posting a review about my stay. I must say that initially I told him I may not post a review at all, but my mom was cincerned aboit future reservations if the issues are not corrected and the potential illnesses that are spead through both roaches and mice.

Exactly what we were hoping for

  • 5 of 5

This was a beautiful and spacious property! The property was very clean and welcoming, all for an unbeatable price. The neighborhood was also very lively and had a lot to offer. Our large group was very comfortable in this apartment and it is a very short ride to Center City.

Dangerous intercity.

  • 1 of 5

Graffiti gang markings over doorway. Store next door had roll down protectìon gates. Apt was hot, no Air Conditioning. Property manager offered to bring a unit from the

basement, after we complained. There were no screens on the Windows so we couldn't open them. 2 threadbare towels. Home away put the onus on me to prove things. Do yourself a favor, skip this nightmare.

A few fatal flaws, to call it a luxury apartment is a bit of an exaggeration.

**THIS APARTMENT IS NOT AIR CONDITIONED**

The day we landed in Philadelphia it was 96 degrees and humid. When we arrived at the apartment it was closed up and sweltering. The owner said there was a portable a/c unit in a closet but never responded when I let him know it wasn't there. That first night we struggled to sleep and just lay there drenched in sweat and it didn't really improve after that. I really feel like maybe that should be disclosed upfront.

Aside from that the apartment really was comfortable and clean. The light in the second bedroom did not work, but I suspect it just needs new bulbs. There were towels and silverware provided, I didn't check for anything else because it was too hot to cook. The curtains were thin enough that you could see right through them, even in the bathroom. And the next apartment over is close enough to reach out and touch just about so thicker curtains would be nice. Cable and wifi were provided.

This is the kind of neighborhood where the shop owners roll down metal curtains or gates over their windows in the evenings, but we didn't feel threatened. We walked quite a bit in the neighborhood in the morning and evening. Also, the bus to the historic district and back stops at pretty much every corner.

If it hadn't been so hot we would have enjoyed ourselves much more in the apartment. But as it stands I honestly wish I would have just booked a hotel. This was our first time using a vacation rental and I don't think I'm very likely to do it again.

Spacious as described.

  • 4 of 5

Jason did a great job of communicating with us throughout the whole process. When we had an issue he responded very timely and took all the necessary steps to follow through. True that parking was a little tricky, but you can get around with only public transit once you do find a place to park. You'll be in good hands at this property!

Great apartment, very spacious rooms

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is upstairs an office. We have a great communication with the property manager who gave us the code require for the door lock. Very quiet neighborhood. In front I found the best coffee and breads, also there is a grocery and pizzeria. Walking distance is a supermarket, very convenient. The rooms are big, each with their complete bathroom. It has a full kitchen with stove, toaster, fridge and microwave. At the living room is a table with 3 chairs, the TV with cable and a sofa which has another bed. Free WIFI, heater and hot water available. It was clean and the beds had new sheets on, btw they are super comfortable. The only con was the parking but right in the corner is the bus stop.
