About Paul Petronella

I am a restaurateur from Houston, TX. I went to college in Hill Country area, and have always dreamed of living here one day. I work in Houston and play in Austin!

Paul Petronella purchased this house in 2016

Why Paul Petronella chose Apache Shores

This is my second home, which I try to spend as much time as possible enjoying. When I'm at this house, my worries are gone. I love to cook in my kitchen, paddle board on the lake, relax in the hot tub and watch a movie on Apple TV. On the weekends I may drive into town for dinner or drinks with friends.

What makes this house unique

Very quiet neighborhood, extremely relaxing and secluded. You can see all the stars at night. Private lake access for our neighborhood in less than 1 mile away. Map is on the fridge.

Beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

Had a great stay at Paul's home. Spent most of the time enjoying hill country views off of the fabulous patio and upstairs deck. Convenient, easy access to 620 and central to everything in Lakeway. Would love to stay again! Thank you!

GREAT HOUSE, TERRIBLE OWNER RESPONSE - Pick the other house you are considering!

  • 2 of 5

Stayed here for 6 weeks, Feb 1-March 15. 2 adults, 2 kids.

Our stay was... tainted. (Review capped @2490 letters.)

How did a 5-star listing get a 2-star rating? The owner Paul. I’m happy to email messages we got from him.

• House is beautiful!

• Surrounding view is miles of trees & sky

• Lots of windows, room to spread out, yard to play in

• Great neighbors

• Fun extras, lake toys & pingpong. Seems at 1st Paul thought of everything

We vacation 3 months every yr. & NEVER had such awful interaction. Despite mold & allergens, I would have left 4stars had Paul been decent.

1) Kitchen: no baking pan/toaster/blender/measuring spoons/etc.

2) Found "no kids allowed” in hot tub AFTER arriving despite knowing @ booking we had kids

3) 14 burnt-out lightbulbs Paul won’t replace in high ceilings. Said: "They've been like that since I bought the house & it has never been too dark for me." Due to rainy weeks, it WAS too dim

4) Tired of our requests Paul said, "you’re on vacation, try to relax." Proper lighting is demanding?

5) Since 1st night, I sneezed/wheezed/itchy eyes&throat. DID NOT SLEEP FOR 2 WEEKS. I cleaned house & spent $1000 for allergy treatments & find cause. Shower had mold hiding & rug under bed had mites/dander. Paul insisted I was allergic to cedar despite telling him I was only sick in the bedroom, not outside or other places

6) Paul threatened to keep deposit if we opened windows AT ANY TIME

7) Paul controlled thermostats w/ his phone. We often found house too hot/too cold

8) Outside door locks unlocked on their own or got stuck

Paul said WE invited mold by opening windows. ??? LET'S THINK… Mold would have had to grow in 1st night, rain/cold from late winter would have soaked rooms, mold would have been in whole house not just master suite, & I would have let in cedar I initially thought was killing me.

1- Clinic found I'm NOT allergic to cedar

2- It found I AM allergic to mold/dust mites/pet dander

3- I cleaned up mold & could sleep for a few hrs.

4- I removed rug in master & all symptoms went away IMMEDIATELY

5- We decided to not talk to Paul again

6- I broke that promise when lawn was overgrown & WiFi did not work. Got NO RESPONSE on WiFi issue

7- Front door unlocked spontaneously. Didn't tell Paul because he wouldn't do a thing & somehow blame us

8- Weather warmed w/ great days but couldn’t open windows unless we gave up deposit

TWO STARS because it’s not the house’s fault Paul behaved badly.

Owner's Response: I could tell guest was going to be problematic soon after check-in with questions that are typically easy to answer. "Where are the trash bags?" They are in pantry directly next to trash can. "Do you have toaster?" No, there is not a toaster in the kitchen. Look around the kitchen, you are welcome to anything in there. Everything that is available in the home is listed on my property listing. Everything listed is exactly what you will find in the home. Guest complained of allergic reactions in the house. I told her she could do whatever she needed to make herself comfortable, remove a rug, wash bed skirts, remove mattress pad. I do not allow pets, but it is possible a recent guest snuck a pet in. After still complaining of allergic reactions, I called a mold inspector for her to survey the interior of the home. Inspector reported no mold found, instead noticed that guest liked to leave windows open during allergen season in the Texas Hill Country. Because windows were open, interior humidity levels reached 60-70% humidity, which is ideal growing environment for molds. I am able to control thermostats and humidity of the home from my phone, as I live out of town. I instructed guest to keep windows closed and to monitor humidity levels in the home. As this is central Texas, humidity levels are a concern. If levels reached a high level, I would remotely change thermostats to reflect atleast 50% level. After all of the guest concerns, I offered her, twice, the opportunity to checkout early at a pro-rated discount. As there are several other homes in the area available. She declined twice. The hot tub is a salt water tub which reacts differently to human urine, oils, lotions, hair spray etc. The sanitary chemical composition changes quicker than chlorine tubs. These cause phosphates, which were actually found in the hot after guest checked out. Saltwater tubs contains less chemicals and are better for your skin. The house manual requests guest shower before entering the tub. It is not meant for children for these reasons. This home is gorgeous and has everything a guest would need to vacation in a lake property neighborhood, as my listing states. I have never had any issues in the past with any guests, instead nothing but enjoyment. I could quickly tell nothing was going to make this guest happy, not even 45 days in the beautiful hill country.

Quiet, Peaceful Home with Dynamite View

  • 5 of 5

This could not have been a better place for a ten day stay surrounding our 49th Anniversary celebration with bookend Texas Longhorn games. This home has all the amenities, is well stocked and has many special features many homes in the area do not. Table tennis in the game room, paddle boards and inflatables for private access to Lake Austin at the end of the street, gorgeous view of the Texas Hill Country and, as the title states, very quiet, very peaceful and, extremely important, very private! No neighbor can see your backyard, on the porch where there is a fabulous salt water whirlpool spa, or on the deck where there is a large, two person hammock and plenty of seating to view the setting sunlight on the hill country and the full moon rising. iTunes TV with all the channels, whole house stereo, comfortable beds, full kitchen and every appliance you could ask for. Finally, the owner, Paul, is about as accommodating an owner as you will find....friendly, helpful and even drove up from Houston to fix a TV on which we couldn't figure out the technology. We will definitely be back!

A real home at Austin

  • 5 of 5

I spend every summer with my family at USA, since 5 years ago, i spend one month with my family at this house and we really never imagined how we´ll enjoy it, the owner think in every detail to make you feel like in your own house. Before i come here i was undecided between some other properties that look better, but really this one is beautiful much more than it looks in the images and is very quiet. We even saw a deer twice in the afternoon and a fox several times at night in the backyard.

Perfect for our small gathering (6) people!

  • 5 of 5

The home was beautiful, clean, and had a nice open game room for ping pong and shooting hoops (small ball). Paul even procured and installed a NEW gas grill for our party on which we grilled steaks and burgers.

Everyone was pleasantly surprised and we will certainty stay here again in the future.
