About Sophie

We are new to homeaway but we've been hosting via for about a year now We are working professionals with young children. I am from a small village in Taiwan and my husband is from Connecticut. We love Philadelphia and hope you will too when you visit Philadelphia, whether or not you stay in this house.

Sophie purchased this townhome in 2001

Why Sophie chose Center City

We live in the same neighborhood within 3 minute walk to this house so we will be attentive hosts.

What makes this townhome unique

Our prices are low and below market because this house is on short term rentals during the six months a year my parents are not living there.

The house is on a quiet street. It is a very short walk to museums, restaurants, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's and many fun things in the city. Quick trip to Penn, Drexel, Temple, Jefferson, The Philadelphia Convention Center.

This house was built right about 1801 and is one of the many unique and lovely historically certified houses in Philadelphia. The street is charming and quiet even know you are really close to everything tourists come to Philadelphia to see!

Location, responsiveness, spaciousness, and charm

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The location is PERFECT! We walked from the 30th Street train station to the property and purchased supplies at nearby Trader Joe's and Whole Foods! Sophie is consistently available and very responsive. We walked to all the places we wanted to visit: Verizon Hall to hear the Philadelphia Orchestra, Eastern State Penitentiary, the Philadelphia Art Museum, the Rodin Museum, and The Barnes Foundation ... not to mention walks to The Constitution Center and Elfreth Alley. The Franklin Institute is just around the corner. Future renters may wish to know that this is a three-story unit with narrow stairs. We LOVED the space, the floor to ceiling doors in the kitchen, where light pours in during meals. This unit is minimally furnished and there is no cable tv (Roku in its place). But this HomeAway met every one or our needs and we would stay here again in a heartbeat. We slept well and always felt safe ... and we loved the charming neighborhood. We did not have a car but note that parking could be a challenge.

my stay in Philadelphia

Great place to stay. No problems what so ever. Be aware that street parking is available but difficult to obtain. Otherwise you have to pay to park in a garage of which several are available.

Convenient location. Adequate accommodations.

  • 4 of 5

Sophie was very responsive to all questions, even though she was on vacation as well. Our family of 4 stayed here for 4 nights and utilized the kitchen for breakfast and reheating leftovers. Equipment was functional and met our needs. The fridge was big enough to fit the giant pizza box we brought home from Pete's Pizza around the corner. It was really good!

We traveled via cab, bus and Uber to the historic area and found Uber to be the cheapest, $9. We could easily walk to the art museums and boathouse row.

Our only complaint for the property was the firmness of the beds. Despite being supplied with cushy mattress pads they remained very firm. It wasn't a deal breaker but 4 night was a long time. If we come back we will bring foam toppers.

Great place to stay.

  • 5 of 5

Neat and clean. Conveniently located. Very reasonably priced. We walked to most places and were able to get an Uber very quickly when needed. The beds are on the hard side, but I would still recommend this lovely home without hesitation. Thank you for making the place available.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review! We've added fluffy mattress covers to soften the beds. Your suggestion of a softer bed is appreciated!

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We booked this property to attend the Philadelphia Flower Show. It was a nice neighborhood within walking distance to many restaurants, the convention center and historical attractions. One warning for anyone who has trouble navigating stairs, this is a three story unit, with one bedroom and bath on the second floor and another on the third floor. Street parking seems to be restricted to permit holders, so we left our car in a nearby parking garage and walked everywhere we wanted to go. Beds had thin mattresses, not the most comfortable, and second story bed was only a about a foot above the floor. If you’re ok with stairs, this is a good value in a nice location.

Best VRBO location in Philadelphia for Art Lovers!

  • 5 of 5

Not knowing much about where things are in Philadelphia, we picked this townhouse for the fact that it had 2 bedrooms and was identified as being in the center of the city. We had no idea that it was in the best possible location for our 4-day trip! We wanted to visit the Barnes Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the exhibit of the terra cotta warriors at the Franklin Institute. We had no idea that each of these places was within easy walking distance of the house. Also easy walking to an area of great restaurants, lovely churches and much more. Literally, the best location we could have had. We parked the car at the Latimer Garage upon arrival (cheapest rate we found online) and then walked everywhere until we checked out. It's even easy to unload your luggage because there's an alleyway right next to the house so we just left the car there with emergency blinkers on as we unloaded all our junk and we did the reverse the day we left.

The house was very clean and everything we needed was there. Plenty of clean towels, plenty of hot water in the shower, (there are 2 bathrooms but we didn't use the upstairs bathtub). Everything you could possibly need in the kitchen. Sophie provided soap and shampoo in both bathrooms and soap in the kitchen. We had no trouble getting into the house as the key was left in the pre-arranged spot.

The only thing I will mention is that this house would not be the best for people with bad knees. There is a lot of stair climbing to the 2 bedrooms. We are 2 women in our late 60s and we were fine although I had to take my time going up and down as there is no handrail. Plus, be aware that these are VERY firm mattresses and they are low to the ground - so again a knee consideration.

All in all, it was a great experience and we would stay there again.
