About Megan McLaughlin

Juan is a Barcelona native who came to the United States in the early 1990s for university and decided to stay. He studied architecture at the University of North Carolina - Charlotte and received Masters degrees in Architecture and Urban Design from the University of Miami.

Megan is a native of the Carolinas, who moved to Florida with her family in 1992. After four years in a historic lakefront home in Leesburg, Florida, her family moved to South Florida. Megan studied Art History at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, and she received her Masters degree in Architecture from the University of Miami.

Why Megan McLaughlin chose Lake Wales

After twelve years living and working in Miami, we decided that we needed an escape from the big city life. The idyllic town of Lake Wales and this stunning home have provided us with a respite from our hectic lives and a place for our two little girls and our very large dog to have space to run.

Lake Wales is a very friendly and sophisticated community with a small town feel and high quality architecture and public spaces and parks. We are amazed that such a visually beautiful place has remained so unspoiled.

We are certified "rehab addicts" with two ambitious and successful home renovation projects under our belts, including our first home, a charming 1948 Mid-Century Modern, and our current home, a 1927 Mediterranean in Little Havana. We were amazed at how solidly built this Greek Revival house is, the attention to detail in the construction of the home, and the high quality finishes. The yard will give us plenty of space to make artistic landscape projects over the years. The house is also generous enough to host Juan's extended family of 24 when they visit from Spain, and Megan's family of 14, who luckily all live in Florida. Because we can't always make it up to the property from Miami, we decided that it would be wonderful to be able to share our home with other large families who are looking for an escape and some good old-fashioned family togetherness.

What makes this villa unique

Nothing beats sitting on the rocking chairs on the front porch of this house. It doesn't matter what time of day or night, the view of the lake is breath-taking and the breeze is refreshing.

There is plenty of room to sleep an extended family, with private bedrooms for at least 10 adults, and plenty of space to bunk up kids in extra rooms.

The kitchen is roomy and perfect for family gatherings.

The pool is large and a great hit with the kids, and has a great view of the lake and the pool house.

The Lake Wailes lakefront is surrounded by a two-mile lakefront park with walking and biking paths - perfect for the whole family to walk, run, and bike. The path will take you around to the downtown, churches, fishing docks, and other public amenities.

Cozy Home!

  • 4 of 5

Nice location & comfortable beds. Plenty of room for guests. Megan was extremely nice and always available. The kitchen was well equipped, but a bbq grill outside would be perfect for the guests. Only a 20 minute drive to Legoland, was perfect!

Beautiful lakehouse home with charm.

  • 5 of 5

This historic residence is very charming and situated directly across lovely Lake Wales with an amazing view. Sitting on the porch rocking chairs is priceless. Large rooms, hardwood floors and beautiful details, gave our family of 8 a wonderful mini-vacation, filled with serenity and bonding. We are so pleased to have stayed here and look forward to more opportunities to come back. The owner is very accessible and accommodating - she was a pleasure to communicate with. Highly recommend.
