About the property

I Casali

We live in a stone house built in the 1850s, in Micciano near Volterra (Pisa). In our estate there are two apartments for rent, for lovers of the peace and beauty.

• Heart of Tuscany

• Heated swimming pool

• On the border of a natural reserve

• Wifi, internet connection

• Mountain bikes

• Hiking

• Estate olive oil, certified organic

• Near beaches and Tuscan medieval towns

Volterra, San Gemignano, Firenze, Lucca and Pisa. We are located next to a natural reserve of 5.000 hectares (12.500 Acres).

On the property you can find your favourite spot, overlooking the Tuscan hills sitting under a large holm oak or a juniper tree just gazing at the olive grove. You can walk along the trail to the spring of sulphurous water, passing by the pond where the small wild animals come to drink. If you are lucky you may see a turtle along the way.

We want to pay respect to the nature and its resources. Our olive oil production is in the process of obtaining organic farming certification, and regarding the tourist apartments we’re preparing for the Ecolabel approval.

Lovely times in Lo Stallone

  • 5 of 5

We, my brother and wife, myself and my partner, stayed for a week in I Casali. Pietro & Eva welcomed us and explained everything. We felt at home immediately. We had plenty of space the bedrooms are spacious and the beds are very good. We prepared breakfast every morning and enjoyed sitting around the kitchen table. Quite a few evenings we cooked. The kitchen is well equipped. We did a lot of sightseeing, visiting Lucca, Siena, Pisa and Florence as well as Volterra and San Gimignano. We had one lazy day hill walking in the adjoining nature reserve and lazing at the well kept heated pool. Another day we followed one of the many tips given by our wonderful hosts and drove to the beach at Marina di Bibbona, south of Cecina for a dip in the Mediterranean. Then we spent all day following the coast up to Livorno, stopping here and there. Our shopping we did in various supermarkets (e.g. Lidl) in Cecina. On the first day as we were coming down south from Pisa airport and we did another bigger shopping trip mid-week as wee were coming back from visiting Lucca. It was good to come back to the peace and quiet of I Casali after e.g. our our longer sightseeing trips to Lucca, Siena and Florence, when we were away all day. We did a lot of driving, but we shared the driving and took many wonderful scenic back roads. It was great and we saw a lot. An intensive week, a fun week. Wonderful Tuscany and I Casali. Highly recommended.

Perfect, tranquil and idillyic

  • 5 of 5

We had the most amazing holiday. The accommodation is faultless and set in the beautiful Tuscan countryside, with far reaching breath-taking views. The villa is ideally located within an hour’s travelling distance of many places. The pool and gardens are tidy and well maintained. The nearby beaches are well worth a visit. The locals speak varying degrees of English but were always very happy and eager to welcome us. Pietro was a perfect host who was very helpful in suggesting places to visit, things to do and restaurants. We completely fell in love this place and will definitely return, leaving was very difficult! Highly recommended.

This property was GREAT. The apartment was comfortable, clean and well stocked for everything we needed. The views were wonderful and the ideas Pietro gave us for exploring the area were useful and all fun. The view from the rock in Micciano was wonderful. Pietro was available for all of our questions. It was a peaceful place to relax and enjoy the Tuscany country side.

If you want rest and relaxation, this is certainly the place for you. As previous reviewers have pointed out, it is quite a way from anywhere. The nearest village, Micciano (which by the way is not a mere 10 minutes walk away), has a smart restaurant and a shop which we never actually found to be open, but is pretty. Much better for shopping is Ponteginori which has everything you need, including petrol. It's about 12-15 minutes' drive away.

The house is wonderfully situated on the top of a hill with great views all round. It's a lovely old building surrounded by flower and herb beds, and a vineyard just below. Everything that we needed (there were 3 of us) was provided, including towels for the swimming pool, which was excellent.

We visited many of the towns and villages in the area and would particularly recommend Montecattini val di Cecini and Casale Marittimo. Not to mention Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena and Lucca!

Pietro and Eva were very welcoming as has been mentioned by other reviewers.

As our heading points out, a unique getaway.

A Tuscan Dream

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our time here. It. Was. In. The. Middle. Of. Nowhere. This is why we loved it. We spent time in this house for a few days on and around Easter Sunday. We went to the teeeny tiny church for Easter Sunday Mass. Our visit was amazing. This was the perfect base for us to visit Pisa, Lucca and Volterra. It's off the beaten path (as in these town folks only speak Italian and are still excited and courteous about foreigners). My kids enjoyed getting lost in the hills of the forest, we loved sitting at the picnic table, drinking wine and watching the sunset. I feel so blessed to have stumbled upon this little slice of heaven. Owners were quick, responsive and excellent hosts. I tell everyone I know who is visiting to make a trip here. Our world is vastly changing and becoming more and more global... this place is true, unadulterated Italy. Something to treasure, whille we can......

An all-round feel-good package stay in Tuscany

  • 5 of 5

a really nice location for a quiet holiday. The house and the hosts are just super. The house itself is beautifully divided, all residents have private areas as well as common areas. Inside, everything is available for a nice stay. The kitchen is well equipped, the bedrooms include a good mattress and nice bright rooms. There exist outdoors tables and benches so that you can have breakfast in the morning or the evening meal outside and enjoy the wonderful views of the countryside. The hosts help with advice and practical tips for Tours in the Tuscany, without being intrusive. Micciano is a good starting point for many tours (Pisa, Lucca, Florence, Sienna, San Gimignano). For the kids, the dog and the cat Cora Aldina were the highlight. Also the Pool has a good Quality and was for us and the Kids a real pleasure. So for us it was not the Last Visit to Tuscany, and to I Casali !
