About the property

4 double, 2 quadruple, 3 aparts to sleep 20+ in the heart of Tuscany land

Villanovia is a conservative restoration example of a historic Tuscan farmhouse: it is preserved rustic and original but modernly equipped. Its distinctive special character provides a cozy and warm atmosphere.

The house provides 700sm of internal living accommodation and 37 acres of private land.

Uniquely located on a hilltop inside the natural park of Berignone, overlooking the Cecina valley, the cities of Volterra and Pomarance, the Metallic Hills and Larderello, with the visible geothermal vapors.

An unpaved-road drive, deep into the hart of the land, will lead you to our relaxed and far-from-it-all country house.

Villanovia is off the beaten tracks and worth the ride!

Staying in our property will offer you a 360° view over unspoiled Tuscany, its history and hills. And you and your family will feel at home!

The house sleeps 20+ (extra beds/futon and + 3 cots are available) in large and comfortable rooms or cosy apartments equipped with a private kitchen corner.

The 16th century groundfloor entrance (all in stone) is the most ancient part of the house. Here you have a sofa area with satellite TV and indoor stairs to the upper floor where 6 accommodations are located, as well as a terrace overlooking Volterra.

Perfectly located for total relax vacation, at the same time offers short rides to the cities of Volterra (9Km), Pisa, Siena (about 60Km each), San Gimignano and Florence, as well as the Etruscan Coast beaches (45Km). A large kitchen and an impressive 170sm stone-walls living room with original brick arches complete the property.

Panoramic swimming pool is 5x12, fenced for children' safety. Wi-Fi is available.

We had an wonderful week staying at Villanovia. Our party consisted of 10 people ranging in age from 1 to 73 and it was perfect for every single one of us. There are endless bedrooms, each one with an en-suite, and plenty of places to sit and eat, drink or simply look at the view. The 'party room' is huge and was a perfect inside space to tempt the children out of the midday sun. The pool is immaculate and so inviting on a hot day and it is fully gated off which is handy if you have a very fast toddler in your group like we did! The kitchen is well-equipped and a great place to cook and on our last night we arranged to have dinner cooked for us, the food was delicious and a perfect way to end the holiday. Access to the property is via a very long, bumpy track but it is worth every bump. And the views... they will quite simply take your breath away. Villanovia will remain in our hearts and memories forever.

Owner's Response: Thank you Rebecca for taking the time to provide feedback on your stay. It was a pleasure to meet you and your pleasent family. We are glad everytime we meet our guests' expectations. You are right and thank you for remarking, what makes this place unique is that it is right at the heart of the land and worth the travel as once you are here it reveals its charm slowly, every day. At least this is what made this place our place at the beginning. Thank you and come back soon.

Lovely, rural with amazing views

  • 4 of 5

Villanovia is off the beaten track. To the extent that it takes 15 minutes just to get to Mazzolla when going for a food run.

Don't let that put you off though as the house is great and the views, the views are to die for.

We were four couples with one child each (all under 3 years old) and the farm was perfect for us. The bedrooms are good sized, the gardens are large, the living area cavernous (almost too big) and there is room for everyone to hang out or be alone, if preferred.

There were plenty toys for the children (there is now a big paddling pool added to that collection), a big pool, a well kitted out kitchen and plenty of covered spaces to eat outside.

It's rustic in the most neutral sense of the word. It had a million knives, (but none of them were sharp), tumblers for wine glasses (any excuse to drink wine like water) and temperamental dishwasher. There is also a local fox that loves baby shoes and the contents of bin bags (beware - it's dead clever and we had to get new shoes).

Anyway, we'll be back next year.

Superbe maison avec une vue à 360° magnifique

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Owner's Response: Hello and thank your for your review and for having been such great guests. It is always a pleasure for us to host groups that appreciate the uniqueness of Villanovia, placed at the heart of the countryside. Right there, inside a natural park and definitely far away from hectic life. When we first discovered this place, more then a decade ago, we immediately felt at home and became passionate about it. We were determined to bring the place back to the old days when the local sheppard and peasants used to gather here for evening parties in simplicity and peace. We were convinced that we wanted to share all of this because other people might feel the same and get inspired by our project. And thanks to our guests and many that have encouraged us along our way, we still are convinced to continue to improve the experience.

Car: necessary

Villanovia is in Tuscany in the centre of the triangle made by Pisa, Siena and Florence.

Villanovia is immersed in the Natural Reserve of Berignone-Tatti about 300 m high, a unique location, in a unspoilt forest of oaks, holms and elms trees.

Villanovia is 'immersed' in the authentic forest, right at the heart of the land and to reach it is necessary to travel 5 km of gravel road from Mazzola , road takes about 10-15 minutes by car.

The location is perfect to exploring real Tuscany, Villanovia is 9 km from the historic town of Volterra.

Volterra is a real, all year round, working town with restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and all modern facilities.

Villanovia overlooks a hilltop outside the village of Mazzolla and uniquely positioned inside a Natural Park, one of the protected areas of Tuscany, called Berignone-Tatti . Mazzolla was originally an Etruscan settlement, called Mazzum, the first historical document that attests the existence of Mazzolla dates from the year 1000 when the Bishop of Volterra was received there.

The natural reserve of Berignone is a completely untouched and unspoilt resort populated by a large variety of wild animals, some peculiar birds and night-birds as well as a dense and typical mediterranean forest. There are numerous horse-riding, trekking and biking paths inside the park as well as cultural routs to the ancient middle-age ruines of the Bishops' Castle, the Castle of Luppiano and the fortresses of Rocca Sillana. There are a few rivers that cross the natural park, all affluents of the main Cecina river that forms a large valley and dies into the see in the nearby Etruscan Coast. One of the few remaining untouristic spots of Tuscany. Not to be missed.

Volterra is a town of great architectural interest located 1770 feet above the sea level, between the rivers Bra and Cecina in Tuscany, Italy. The main features are two fine castles and numerous Etruscan remains.

The area is easily accessible from Pisa by car with a journey time of just one hour. Both Florence and Pisa International Airports are served by daily flights from the UK (London, Leeds, Bournemouth, Bristol, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, East Midlands), Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Scandinavia and Russia.

Other Activities:

horse-riding (in the area), trekking and biking paths inside the natural park

Interesting unknown places to discover:

24 Km away you can reach the Metallic Hills and the village of Larderello. It is located in the center of the "Valley of the devil", so called because of its landscape characterized by geysers with features columns of white steam (already known at the time of Dante Alighieri and his inspiring landscapes of his travel through "Hell ").
