Our centrally located Historic Home in the Bywater area puts the Big Easy at your fingertips! You are just steps away form some of the hippest bars, clubs, galleries, restaurants, live jazz and fantastic local flavor New Orleans has to offer. We are located close to the historic neighborhoods of Marigny and the French Quarter. Only a short walk from the nearby streetcar as well as the beautiful Cresent park where you can walk along the banks of the Mississippi to the French Quarter.

Between the amazing cuisine, the fantastic music and the fabulous nightlife, you need the perfect place to kick up your heels in the Big Easy. Our beautiful, centrally-located, 2 bedroom home can sleep 6 and is the perfect place to unwind.

Your home in New Orleans is on a quiet street in the hip Upper Ninth Ward Bywater neighborhood. While Bywater can look a little rough around the edges to those unfamiliar with New Orleans, we love it! Our street is very safe and our neighbors are friendly and fantastic. Our neighborhood is full of art, music and culture. It is a traditional New Orleans "shotgun" style house or a "double" or "duplex". We live on one side and the guesthouse is on the other. The house is full of cheery natural light as well as paintings from a local artist. We provide tons of information regarding the nearby restaurants, music clubs and bars in our very own guidebook. We also provide 3 bicycles to use during your stay. Each bedroom (2) has a super comfy queen size bed and the futon in the front room folds into a queen size bed. We also have twin and queen-size Aerobeds and an extra queen-size futon for parties requiring more than the 3 queen size beds. There is a full kitchen at your disposal. The backyard is a fabulous place to kick back and relax in the shade of a large Sugarberry tree or on your private porch. Guests are welcome to use one of our two BBQ grills or crawfish boil pots in our atmospherically lighted backyard (where we had out wedding reception last Spring). We have a delightful garden full of fresh fruit, vegetables and sugar cane (seasonal) at your disposal.

New Orleans' chicory coffee and a six pack of Louisiana's Abita beer will be waiting for you to get things started right! We also provide three bicycles for our guests.

The guesthouse is located right next door to our house. If we are home Peter LOVES to show people around and will be happy to make sure you have the most wonderful experience in the city we so passionately love. We will be available to help guests with anything they might need.

Chances are, if the weather is right, the smell of Cajun seafood and BBQ will be wafting over the guesthouse fence to the sounds of ukulele, guitars etc., if you can smell it, you're invited!

The Bywater neighborhood is a colorful and eclectic area. It is a blue collar neighborhood that is in a state of flux. After Hurricane Katrina artists, musicians and volunteers flocked here from all over the country, leaving Bywater a colorful mix of the old and the new. Nestled within its historic streets you will find small art galleries, fabulous bars and every kind of music club. You will fall asleep to the sounds of the insects of the tropics and be awakened by birds and the sounds of jazz musicians practicing. Check out our guidebook for some local tips!

The guesthouse is located within a short walk from many of the city's best restaurants and bars. The French Quarter is a 20 minute walk away. The popular Frenchman Street with its innumerable jazz clubs is just a 10-15 minute walk. New Orleans is a very easy city to get around in via Bicycle. We provide 3 bicycles for our guests to use. Public transport is a breeze with several buses that pass nearby. The airport is approximately 25 minutes away. There is a streetcar line currently under construction that will be a 10 min walk away in the future.

There is a train in the area that passes a few times a day, but it doesn't bother us. Anyhow, full disclosure.

Very real Louisiana experience!

My daughters and I just spent a week at this location, it was wonderful. I grew up in New Orleans and was looking for a reminiscent experience. I found it here. The owner is very sweet and willing to help with anything you may need. The house is stocked with all kinds of New Orleans treasures, from the quirky decor to the cajun spices and local Louisiana brewed beer. I couldn't have asked for a better experience!

A beautifully resorted duplex with soany thoughtful and welcoming touches. Peter and Jessica are excellent hosts with lots of helpful suggestions for local restaurants, bars, and sight-seeing advice. We feel like we have a home away from home...will definitely return.

Nice apartment

Bywater is a rough area with lots of delipatated buildings. However, our building was nice with banana trees in front. The apartment was beautiful. Be clear that a shotgun house means one couple has to walk through the other couples bedroom to get to the bathroom. Walking to French Quarter is 30 to 45 minutes. Uber $8 to 15.

Amazing Stay

I recently went to New Orleans with my boyfriend and one of my best friends from college, we stayed at the Historic Bywater from the 8th of December to the 12th. This little home away from home was perfect. It was in a good location, only a 6- 10 minutes uber ride away from the French Quarter. The house was extremely clean and was absolutely charming. Upon arrival the owners had left us a variety of snacks, including a few Abita beers and some chicory coffee. They also supplied us with a number of brochures with different New Orleans things to do. We also rode the bikes out back to go brunch at the Ruby Slipper one day and while they are older bikes they get you from point A to point B. Taking all things into consideration I would most definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. I personally have been to New Orleans quite a few times and have stayed at different places each time and Historic Bywater is by far one of my favorites.
