About the property

Scandinavian Cottage in the City

Coming to enjoy and explore Toronto? Here on business? Tired of hotels? Planning a family trip and want to save on accommodation and dining? This might just be exactly what you have been looking for...

Welcome to our Scandinavian-style house, conveniently located in the heart of trendy Queen St West: only steps away from parks, shops, entertainment, the best cafes in town, major attractions, the Lakeshore, spas, hospitals, and the financial district.

HOUSE: Just call it your home away from home! Find everything that you need for a short or longer stay.

The house has 3 bedrooms on the second floor. Each of them includes an individual closet. The front master bedroom faces east (sun blackout curtains are on for those who want to sleep in!) overlooking a quiet side-street. At night, enjoy the lights of the city and the view of the CN Tower right from your bed. The middle room is modeled as a children's room - and here is where kids squeal with delight - has a built-in bunk bed. Don't have any kids? It's still a very cool room: the bunk bed is an adult twin! If you are traveling with kids, there is a cradle and crib available and we welcome you to help yourself to all the baby essentials, toys, etc. The third bedroom is smaller in size and has a queen-size luxury foldout sofa-bed. The room overlooks a sunny and secluded backyard.

The bathroom on the second floor has a walk-in rain shower with a child-proof safety valve on the hot water. The second bathroom, washer & dryer are in the basement. If you want to treat yourself to an at-home spa experience, soak in the vintage claw foot tub on the lower floor!

Open concept main floor combines dining area, living room, and stylish kitchen with a breakfast bar. The living room has a 47-inch flat screen TV, surround sound system through the house (don't miss when Crosby scores a goal even when you're in the washroom!), blue-ray DVD player with tons of DVDs, XBox 360, Kinnect, Netflix, vinyl record player, and an extensive music collection both on vinyl and CDs. You are welcome to enjoy them all! Wireless internet is also available throughout the house.

The dining area has a big table that easily seats 6-8 people. Great for a hearty family dinner or a games' night. (Choose from a big variety of board games on the shelf!)

The kitchen is where things happen in this house! Enjoy modern appliances (gas stove, oven, microwave, toaster, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, stovetop kettle, blender, etc) and lots of space to cook. A few things you won’t always find elsewhere: professional espresso machine, manual juice-maker, and your choice of gas or coal BBQ grills in the backyard.

The backyard is a privately enclosed space for you to relax and unwind. BBQ, sun tan, take a shower! We even have an outside hot/cold water shower! Gaze at the stars at night while stoking a crackling fire in an outdoor enclosed fireplace. For those travelling with kids, it is safe to leave them there to play while you are making dinner, as it is walled off from other properties and there is no back exit.

ECO-FRIENDLY: All cleaning products and detergent are made from natural ingredients. For the same reason there is no A/C in the house, however two bedrooms have very powerful ceiling fans, and mobile fans are also available.

PARKING: Street permit parking is available upon request.

TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM AIRPORT: Taxi-Service from/to Pearson Airport is $65 plus tip. The Queen Street streetcar is close by with connections to major subway stations. A short walk away is the Bathurst streetcar, and a litttle further up the street is the Dundas line.

NEIGHBOURHOOD: Everything is within walking distance, and streetcars and buses run in all directions. The widest range of boutique restaurants are only steps away. Satisfy your taste buds and discover new flavours at Indian, Middle Eastern, Italian, Thai, Japanese, Vietnamese, Chinese, French, Philippine, or Mexican kitchens. Most, if not all, offer take-out. Need to grab a quick bite? Burger and sandwich places, ice cream parlours, exquisite pastry shops, and bakeries are dotted all over the neighbourhood and all within a 5-minute walk. Lots of brunch options, too. Coffee shops are at every corner. If you are into cooking, the famous Kensington market offers a huge range of local produce, meat, poultry, fish, and dairy products only 20 minutes walk away. Check out their Global Cheese shop – sample the variety and don’t leave empty-handed! Chinatown is also within 15 minutes. Loblaws grocery store and Shoppers Drug Mart are only a 5-minte walk away.

Nearby major attractions include the CN Tower, the Air Canada Centre, the Rogers Centre, the Hockey Hall of Fame, the Art Gallery, the Royal Ontario Museum, Scotiabank movie theatre, Body Blitz Spa, and the Eaton Centre, All are within walking distance or a short transit ride. The harbourfront, Casa Loma,

Go-Karts, and sailing clubs are a bit further afiield, but easily accessible by public transit and only a short ride away.

Trinity-Bellwoods park is a block west from the house. It’s a vibrant, family-friendly place to have a picnic, go for a run, or just to wander around. It has a community centre that offers a bunch of drop-in programs, including tot & adult swims.

If you need any advice on where to go, what to do, or figure out how things work around here, it will be my pleasure to help. If you know what you want to see and do, I might be able to suggest the best time to visit a place for a better value.

Warm and welcoming home in a big city

  • 5 of 5

My family (husband, two toddlers and parents) stayed here on our recent visit to Toronto. It was really a perfect place for a family. The location is fantastic, just off Queen St. West, around the corner from wonderful restaurants, coffee shops and shopping, and a few blocks from Trinity-Bellwoods park which has a farmers market and a playground for the kids.

The house itself is beautifully designed and so warm and welcoming. I’m a designer, so I loved all the gorgeous details and thoughtful use of space. There are some “quirky” things that are inevitable with any city house (in this case, the clawfoot bathtub in the basement) but I loved all of it. Who would choose a bland hotel room over this? (One thing to be aware of if you are older or have any trouble with stairs: this home is on three floors and has rather steep stairs.)

The layout of the main floor is wonderful for family dinners and just hanging out with the kids. There is a beautiful back garden with a BBQ and string lights - very magical and peaceful.

The owner, Darya, was responsive and very thoughtful with all the little details. She knew we were traveling with toddlers, so had a pack n play and crib ready for us as well as high chair and booster seat. She even got bibs and little toy rattles for the kids as a welcome gift. There were basics in the fridge and cabinets for us to use as well as wine on the counter: so thoughtful.

All in all, we had a wonderful experience in this home (so much so that my daughter cried when we entered a hotel room on the next leg of our vacation - she wanted to go back to the “other house!”)
