About the property

The house is a modern construction, built 15 years ago and finished just 12 years ago. But the neighborhood is very old with the houses around being built after 1750 and through 18th and 19th centuries.

It is located at an extremely nice spot in Sikinos Chorio, with a superb view of the southern, northern and western Kyklades islands. The sunset from the very house is compatible to Santorini's! The house can host easily 7 people (or even more in transported beds, with a small extra cost)

Two bedrooms (a triple with a double and a single bed and a double with double bed and a baby bed) with independent balconies with a lovely view of Sikinos Kastro and the surrounding islands , one bathroom, a wc, fully equiped large kitchen with washing machine, large living room with two large "built couches" that can be used for beds, and a fireplace.

There are two big yards, facing northeast and southeast, suitable for a very large company of people. There's a bbq in the garden by the "Santorini yard".

Also there's a small yard in the west that has the shade of a large almond tree in the mornings.

All these guarantee that you'll have a yard to chill in every hour of the day under any wind!

There's a very large roof terrace with also built couches with an unbelievable view of almost 300 degrees! Υou can see Folegandros, Milos, Kimolos, Polyegos, Sifnos, Serifos, Kythnos, Kea, Despotiko, Antiparos, Paros, Naxos, Ios, Anafi, Thirasia and Santorini! (during very clear days you can see as far as Syros and Tinos. Also at very clear nights the sky in the north is glowing back the lights from... Athens!)!

And that sunset... Imagine a dinner under the clear blue sky looking at the sun setting in the sea or behind Kimolos island! Plus the unimaginative view of the sky and the Milky Way at moonless nights as there is no "light pollution" up there.

The house will be all yours during your stay. Someone of course will take care in case you need anything!

From the house you can start walking on footpaths that lead you to every place of the island!

In the back of the house there's a field that will may be cultivated. There's a chance you'll have the local cucumber and string beans and unwatered tomatoes right there, to pick and eat. Also a large fig tree gives away its lovely fruits...

The house is at 300m alt.

Right next to the house there is no other building but an old aqueduct where there is a transmitter antenna of the island's free wifi!

But don't think you'll be remoted. There are houses around, built about 250 years ago and all of them are restored. Even if they are home to visitors by the time you'll be here, you won't suffer any noise Oh, maybe someone playing a bouzouki on a lazy afternoon (still haven't spotted who this lovely musician is!)

You are practically on your own in the neighborhood as you are... higher than all the rest!

There are no roads inside Chorio, no shops and no traffic. Just narrow footpaths and beautiful houses. You can park at 50m from the house and there are about 30 steps up to it. Parking space is not reserved but it's usually plenty exept mid August but still you'll leave your car some meters down the road.

If you don't have a car or bike, there's a rental office on the island or you can move around by bus. To get to the island, you take a boat from Santorini via Ios (2 hrs), or from Piraeus via various Islands (8.30 hrs). Also you can come from other Kyklades islands such Paros, Naxos, Mykonos via Ios or directly every Friday. The closest international airport is Santorini's and Naxos'

All day and nightlife is at the other, the lower part of Sikinos Village, the Castle (= Kastro). It's one minute by car but, hey, change your life a bit, walk there, it's only some dozens of steps! ;)

About Kostas

I'm 48 years old, a father of an 18 y.o daughter, i've worked in the music industry for ages beafore it died.. I want to be a farmer, i'm preparing myself for some years now. I like meeting people and helping them have a good time. I love travelling, pretty much impossible in these years of financial crisis, i love cats and i love... the north! :)

Kostas purchased this house in 2000

Why Kostas chose Sikinos

The house was built by my late father and my mother in the biginning of 00s. My father left the island at the tender age of 12 to move to Athens and live by relatives etc and right after he was adult he embarked on merchand ships and traveled around the world. This little rock here grew in his mind so big that became a lifetime purpose to built something after retirement. He and my mom did it! Unfortunately he enjoyed it only for a couple of years as he passed away in 2006. He was one of the happiest, funniest, most easy going persons and his bright spirit is everywhere in this house. :)

What makes this house unique

The house is at an incredible place. The view is spectacular. You have almost 300 degrees view! You can see the sunrise AND the sunset from your... bed! (well, not the same bed! haha)

In August the sun rises from Ios and sets behind Kimolos. In the course to winter the sun rises further south till into the sea near Anafi and sets behind Milos and in February behind Folegandros. But you always have the view!

Remember that famous sunset in Santorini where thousands of people gather on the rocks to live the ritual? Well, in this house, you'll have your own, personal ritual!

Apart from the view, you'll have verandas and balconies to relax day or night and under any wind!

Owner's Response: Thank you for your staying and your kind review. Just to explain regarding the 7 people capacity, two can sleep at the master bedroom, two more at the smaller bedroom plus one child or small adult. That's 5 in total. Two more can easily sleep at the couches downstairs. Definately 7 people can stay at the house, it has been done before! Thank you again!

Sikinos is quite known for the monument of Episkopi, an ancient Roman monument of 2nd century AD designed and built by locals and not by known architects of Rome or Athens. This actually is the unique about it.

The area was the sight of previous monuments that date back to 400 BC.

The monument was used by Christians after Christianity replaced the Greek pagan religion and finaly at about 1650 the monument was turned into a christian church by changing of the roof and other major changes. The monument still stands in one peace, it's currently closed for restoration but in the next years it''l be functional again as it remains for 1800 years!

Don΄t miss visiting it. The surrounding area with the cells of Santa Anna's Monastery having been restored, show how (even more) beautiful this place will be soon.

Right above Kastro, sits the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi ("Lifegiving Spring") built as a fortress-Monastery in late 1600. It was forced to be abandoned by the nuns during the Bavarian king Otto's years (1830) and since winter 2015-2016 is having one nun as a resident again! The view is SPECTACULAR and the sunset MAGICAL. Right underneath it sits the modern chappel of Panagia Pantochara (Virgin Mary "the forever Joy") that was built at late poetry Nobel prize winner Odysseas Elytis' will a few years ago.

On the road to Episkopi you'll find the Manalis Winery, a modern facility in a lovely spot surrounded by vineyards.Υou'll enjoy an incredible view, a superb local wine and delicious food. Be there an hour before the sunset time and you'll have an evening to remember!

The old school of the Island sits in the outskirts of Kastro and was built in 1902. Today you''ll probably have the opportunity to see a movie screening or an exibition at it's yard. Also the... water ATM is there (a facility to fill your bottle with water, extra filtered and fresh, as the island uses water from a desalination plant that makes the water a bit salty to drink. The Old school water purification facility is your free solution to have fresh water to drink)

Kastro, The Castle, is the lower part of the main village, you'll have it as a view everyday from the house! It's an 1500 AD settlement, used the external walls of the houses, built one next to the other in a square, as the fortress walls. Today the old Castle is the area around the main square. The square was created during the WW II when the island was occupied by Italians by demolishing many of the old houses in the castle creating an area that was used as a square.

Sikinos is a lovely place to walk. Trails were used to access all the island which was a farming island with an extremely impressive stone work to prevail the soil on the steep mountains. This work started almost 4500 years ago and is a continues struggle. The trails leaded to the very last field on the far remoted place of the island. Today there are 50kms of marked trails but there are many more to be marked and cleared on the forthcoming years. Visit them, walk from the sea level to the highest point (553 meters high) and free your imagination...

Before leaving remember to buy the local honey and caper

Please be sure that you search and book for the right island, as they are quite a few in Kyklades. Sikinos is between Folegandros and Ios and some times is mistaken for Sifnos or Serifos which are nearby.
