About Tonia Contino

I grew up on beautiful Cayuga Lake. I can remember my Mom and Dad renting cottages on this lake every summer during summer vacation. I have old black and white pictures of my father sister and brother, so many... some holding fish others swimming. I love looking back at them. I grew up and moved out west realizing my heart was missing home and that lake. I was in Real estate when I got a break and the first thing I did was bring my cash home and buy a cottage on Cayuga Lake.

Tonia Contino purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Tonia Contino chose Seneca Falls

Every summer I was there while my boys were growing up during their summer school break. Now they to have wonderful memories. All grown up and lives of their own with limited time to spend there. I still travel back so excited with my mind full of pictures, falling asleep hearing the sounds of the waves, waking up sitting in the stuffed lounge chair in the dinning room looking out the windows that face the lake, drinking my coffee looking out over that massive water watching the fish jump or blue heron land at the end of the dock. (The sound of silence, taking in all of nature)

What makes this cottage unique

I decided to rent my cottage hoping that others could enjoy it to and make a memories that will keep bringing them back.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We just enjoyed being on the lake and staying at that cottage so much the weather was beautiful, wineries were so much fun and the amenities in the cottage were just perfect. The owner was so attentive. My brother and his wife and my mother and her furry friend can't wait to get together again we live in different states and we decided every year we will be meeting...so we will be next year.

Little spot of heaven

  • 5 of 5

This was an amazing family vacation! Several family members from different parts of the state came to this cottage to enjoy 4th of July week. The cottage was beautiful, comfortable and well appointed. The large deck was one of our favorite spots to be, although the extended dock may be where my wife and brother-in-law called home due to the fishing. 10 different types of fish were caught off the dock, including two we had never before caught. We watched a bald eagle fishing in the lake just out front of the beautiful picture window in the upstairs level, as well as several hawks, falcons and herons. I was able to take beautiful pictures of my nephew's first vacation on the gorgeous Cayuga Lake. The water outside the cottage was beautifully shallow and rocky with very little seaweed, which the dog and baby loved being in. We visited a couple of the wineries in the area and the convenience of being close to Seneca Falls was helpful for the couple quick store trips we needed to make. The cleaning woman and Tonia were wonderful to work with and I could not have asked for better during out stay. Thank you Thank you for this amazing vacation!

Beautiful

  • 4 of 5

I will start with the only reason I hesitated to give this 5 stars. This beautiful cottage is literally right on the road! It seems dangerous unloading and loading the car because even the area to pull off on the shoulder temporarily is across this busy highway. The parking is not convenient at all, as it is across the busy road and up a side street. Lastly we paid extra to bring our dog which is fine, were were told never to leave the dog alone on the property. It was never mentioned that we should keep the dog leashed when it was outdoors so there wouldn't be a risk of it running into the road. We had to drive into town to search out a long outdoor tie out so the dog wouldn't be stuck on a 6 ft leash all weekend.

Besides all that, this cottage is beautiful and very clean. The kitchen had everything we needed. We enjoyed the outdoor space, if you plan to go in the water bring water shoes and floats! We spent a day wine tasting at the many wineries that are close by.

Owner's Response: Wow you make it sound so horrible the cottage is literally right on the water. I guess the parking may have bothered you but if you look at reviews from many other guest it didn't seem to bother them. The cottage on the lake has so many wonderful things to offer and you did pinpoint some of those. I thought that there was a leash law everywhere for your own dogs safety and there's plenty of room for your dog to rome on a very very long lead. Nevertheless I'm glad that you really enjoyed the cottage the lake and your stay. That's what it's all about and that's why I opened up my cottage so that other people can experience privacy of a cottage and life on the lake.

Great time with the family.

  • 4 of 5

We had an amazing time 8/15-8/18. My teenage kids had a great time kayaking and fishing. Loved being right on the lake. We grilled for dinner one night and for dessert lit up the fire pit for s'mores. The house is well equipped. There's a bunch of great wineries in the area. Lakewood is one of my favorites.

I suggest the owner invest in some kayaks for the guests.

Too many spiderwebs out on the deck was my other concern and having to cross a main road to park the car.

Thank you so much for the family memories at your cottage!!

Summer vacation 2017

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful vacation at this cottage on Cayuga Lake! The cottage was well-kept, neat and organized. The linens on the bed were fresh and the towels in the bathroom were clean. We had no trouble finding anything we need to cook with. If I had any questions at all, the owner got right back to me with an answer; always happy to help. We truly enjoyed our stay!

Gorgeous cottage on Cayuga Lake

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cottage that is built into a hill right on the lake; you can't get any closer without going in! The house is inviting and decorated comfortably with a great kitchen and appliances for cooking-in and barbecuing. The real show though is the outdoor area. A sweet dock with a bench for sitting to watch the sunrise, or the loons, bald eagles, herons and osprey (yes, we saw all of them!). The deck is spacious and has chairs for lounging, and reading and a picnic table. The beach area is small, but clean and offers a way to walk out into the water. The fire pit was perfectly situated for watching the sky and the water as the fire crackled. The bugs weren't even bad! Near wineries, hiking at Taughannock and not far to Ithaca. This is a perfect Finger Lakes get-away!

lacked important immenities

  • 2 of 5

The best part of this location was the beautiful view of the lake. It was described as being modest and that it was. The kitchen lacked important items like a toaster and a sizable frying pan. The parking was not convenient and crossing a busy road to walk to where one could park their car was dangerous. We had to supply our own toilet paper and paper towels. We were contacted by the owner that package deliveries were coming and to place them indoors. This happened 4 days out of our 7 day stay. Fortunately we spent little time there.

Owner's Response: I rented the cottage to two couples after your booking they raved how beautiful it was inside and out and that they were expecting a modest Cottage and they told me that it was anything but that. The toaster was located at the end of the counter you needed to remove the cover. Sorry that you didn't see it. I wish when I had spoke to you four times you had mentioned it to me. In the contract it states for you to supply your own paper products, for your convenience I supplied enough toilet paper until you had time to pick up some or bring your own. The deliveries were supposed to arrive before your arrival I can't control the post office. I wish you had told me that it bothered you I would have made arrangements with the property management to pick them up. I noticed one other time when I had rented my cottage is such a huge discount I also had an undesirable tenant. I can't help but think that you're having a bad day and I hope that you'll see some sunshine through your clouds.
