About Xavier Morillo (Ecuador)

Hi, my name is Xavier. I am the caretaker for this amazing property located on 33 acres of fertile, volcanic farmland.

I'm a local who worked abroad, so I speak fluent English, Spanish, French and German. Because I'm from here, I can give you the inside scoop on the best local attractions, hikes, shopping, sightseeing, etc.

I manage the property for the owners who come to visit frequently. They see this property as a way to invest in the local people, property and way of life.

I'm passionate about helping our visitors have a memorable experience that will keep you coming back and telling your friends!

Xavier Morillo (Ecuador) purchased this house in 2012

Why Xavier Morillo (Ecuador) chose Imbabura Province

From The Owners

While still living in the Western US our hearts were opened for the people and land of Ecuador since our first visit in 2012.

In 2013, we decided to look for and purchase a second property in the Rio Intag Valley to learn about growing coffee. We bought 15 acres near Garcia Moreno and joined the local cooperative that is a group of small family farms growing organic, shade grown coffee.

This coffee is so good in flavor and aroma we felt we had to find a way to help all of the families and the cooperative staff increase the sales in the US, so we sell this coffee on line for the coffee cooperative (Rio Intag Coffee).

We have invested in the land and now we are investing in the people. We are employing Ecuadorians for all work that is accomplished on our properties, from building and other improvements, to crop planting, management and harvesting.

We are committed to improving the lives of the Ecuadorian people and sustainable practices for the preservation of this pristine land.

What makes this house unique

This is a one-of-kind property perched high in Ecuador's northern Andean highlands. Situated amidst 33 acres of fertile, volcanic farmland, the tranquil vistas will take your breath away.

A hacienda-type feeling pervades our three-bedroom home with large tiled floors, a spacious dining area, fully stocked kitchen, fast Internet connection, and three fireplaces. The unbeatable view of farm fields framed by volcanic mountain terrain evokes a sense of quiet astonishment.

The location of the property is ideal. Formed in the extinct crater of a massive volcano, Lake Cuicocha is literally only a few steps from our front door.

The property is secluded, yet the well-known tourist towns of Cotacachi and Otavalo are both within a 15-minute drive from the Tranquil Place. You will find a wide array of excellent restaurants, or cook up a storm whenever you choose after shopping at the local, organic, fresh food markets.

Great views and comfortable touches throughout

  • 5 of 5

We loved the tranquil place. It had so many unusual touches for an Ecuadorian home. We knew it was different when we saw electric blankets and space heaters in every room. There were even comfy shower mats! The views were amazing and the kitchen was extremely well stocked. This house has the best knives that we have found in Ecuador. We drove to Lake Cuicocha which is beautiful, we did not get a chance to hike around it this time, but I’m sure it’s breathtaking. Xavier, the caretaker, was available to answer any of our questions - he even called to get us some extra firewood delivered one day. Communication was easy and the house is easy to get to via car or bus. Volcan Cotacachi even showed up for us one day, it’s spectacular and you don’t even know it’s there even though it is not very far away, it is usually hiding behind some clouds. Highly recommended!

Tranquility

  • 5 of 5

It was a great stay, and Xavier and his Mom Aura, made it extra special. We had never been to Ecuador before and found the country and it's people to be amiable and agreeable. This property is peaceful and quiet. From the hammock chairs on the veranda you look down into a valley and at higher Andean vistas beyond. The gardens are beautiful; and beyond the bounds of the gardens you see dairy cows, horses and alpacas. It was very hard to leave.

This is a beautiful well-maintained home with a million dollar view from the front porch.

Everything we needed was provided. There is a lake to hike around just down the road, and Cotacachi is just a few minutes away. Very quiet and peaceful. I highly recommend this property.

Very tranquil as the name states.

  • 4 of 5

The Tranquil Place is just that- a place overlooking the mountains and foothills. We found the house to be well stocked and cozy. The beds were comfortable and coming from the Amazon jungle we definitely appreciated the electric blankets! The grounds were immaculate and we enjoyed the presence of hummingbirds in the flowers as well as feeding carrots to the horses. Our only minor distraction was the barking of the dogs during the middle of the night but the Xavier did take the dogs with him the one night he was gone to allow us a full nights sleep. Overall we would highly recommend it!
