About this property

Oceanfront Cottage with Incredible Views and Deck, 2 minutes to beach

If you are looking for a remote, yet well-located retreat, this gorgeous, cedar-shingled Cape Breton cottage is perfect for a memorable getaway. It is perched high above the ocean with epic views and sea sounds. These are some of the most spectacular vistas in all of Cape Breton: endless ocean, beach and Sea Wolf Island (framed perfectly, as if for your personal pleasure!) You don't just enjoy the views- you hear the ocean beside you, lapping at the rocks below, sometimes crashing; it's almost hypnotizing. Check our short video in the "Photos" section.

In the cottage, summer evenings are cool –great for sleeping– often with brilliant sunsets. Outside, the large deck with its lovely cascading stairs, is positioned perfectly for spotting lobster boats, eagles, moose, bobcats, and the whales which pass by most of the year, and from where you’ll catch dramatic sunsets and panoramic views. Beaches? Hiking? Fine Dining? Music? All close at hand…

TumbleSea cottage changes over on Fridays. Charming and comfortable, the open-plan living space features beams and vaulting ceilings that lend it a bright and airy feel, with a fully equipped kitchen and dining area surrounded by windows for spectacular views. Finished with both rustic and contemporary furnishings and decor, the cottage is welcoming and homey, with one cozy bedroom for two.

There’s all the kitchen equipment you need to prepare a feast from local specialties. You will love the supple leather couch in the living room, which is the perfect spot for connecting with friends, (which is easier than ever, with a fast fibre op internet/ wifi connection).

Dig into a good book, or just gaze out to sea. You can watch storms develop on the horizon, and play themselves out before they ever reach you. As evening turns to night, relax and take in the starry night skies, and steady cadence of the flashing light of the island lighthouse.

Nestled amongst trees, roses and the water, TumbleSea cottage offers complete privacy, complete comfort, and an unforgettable week. All this on a beautiful property with spring-fed brooks, just minutes from three great beaches and the Cabot Trail, a half hour from the National Park; less than thirty minutes north of the cottage, the Park has an extensive network of hiking trails, including the Skyline Trail that overlooks the Gulf, as well as dramatic waterfalls, rivers and highlands.

TumbleSea is just twenty minutes from two of the world’s finest golf courses at Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs (respectively ranked by Golf Digest at #39 and #10 in the world). There are also great restaurants and music venues within 30 minutes.

Breathtaking!!
The aptly named Tumblesea cottage is perched on the cliff edge above the lovely, golden beach at Chimney Corner affording uninterrupted views over the Gulf of St Lawrence. The house is perfect - tucked away out of sight of any other houses, exceptionally well equipped and designed in an open plan style which is just perfect for a couple. The property owner, Stewart, lives within a couple of hundred yards and is always readily contactable by mobile or email should the need arise. We stayed in another of Stewart's cottages 2 years ago so we had a good idea about Cape Breton's attractions but Stewart again made a point of calling in the day we arrived to give tips about restaurants, walking trails, boat trips, etc. The cottage is ideally located roughly half way between Inverness and the national park - both within 30 minutes drive. We can't wait to return to this little corner of paradise. K &A, Scotland

Gorgeous oceanside cottage getaway
TumbleSea was unquestionably the finest Vrbo rental we've experienced thus far. Nestled in a charming location with a captivating view of the water, the cottage provided us with endless enchantment as we relaxed on the deck or in the cottage, gazing at the water and the sky. The cottage itself was impeccably clean and exuded a warm, cozy ambiance. What truly set our stay apart was Stuart's exceptional attentiveness to our comfort and overall experience on this beautiful island. His meticulous directions to the cottage were so well-written that we easily located the property late at night, despite the darkness and the looming Hurricane Lee (thankfully reduced to a storm by the time we arrived). Stuart also generously offered superb recommendations for things to do and see on the island. For outdoor enthusiasts, the numerous breathtaking trails in the area are a must-explore. Highlands National Park is very close and the Cabot Trail just a few minutes away. Moreover, the local seafood scene was truly outstanding! The cottage's well-stocked kitchen provided us with all the essential utensils for preparing breakfast, along with a diverse assortment of basic spices and supplies to suit our needs. Cape Breton has completely won us over, and we would eagerly choose to stay at TumbleSea again without hesitation. We wholeheartedly endorse this rental – it's an absolute gem!

Late August at Chimney Corner
Did you ever walk into your accommodations and drop your jaw and high five your mate. This cottage is a total score. Its located equally between the National Park and world class golf at Inverness. Two thumbs up! The proprietor is very nice, easy going and very helpful in terms of points of interest. You would be hard pressed to do better.

Truly heaven on earth! Stewart was an excellent host. He shared the best hikes, restaurants, and local events to visit while we were on vacation. The house was beautiful, clean with spectacular views. We look forward to coming back soon.

great location
The photos tell the story — a cosy and comfortable cottage in a great setting. Good for anyone looking for "ocean" proximity and privacy. The place is very thoughtfully appointed and comfortable although there were a few components which we felt needed replacement because of evident wear or functionality (eg. the bedroom dresser, the "back" door, the rusted lounger chairs). These weren't deal breakers but considering the price point, such improvements would give it a notable refresh. The main downside is not the cottage itself but how far away Cape Breton is relative to large East coast cities. (If we were to do it again, we'd fly in and rent a car.)

I have been living here for more than 20 years, and Bell grew up in Cape Breton, in Margaree Valley, just 20 minutes away. We met in art school in Halifax, and after living in New York for a few years, we moved back here permanently in 1997. We both love Cape Breton, which comes alive in June and the weather stays awesome until October. There are plenty of beautiful places to explore here, even if you have lived here for 20 years!

Why they chose this property

I built the cottage in 2015-16; there was a dramatic spot on the property with spectacular views. It is a lovely location with wild roses all around, juniper vines and fabulous unobstructed views of the ocean. The views of the ocean, Chimney Corner Beach, and Sea Wolf/Margaree Island are simply amazing. There is also all of the privacy one could want. This building is a perfect getaway for a couple; there's just nothing else like this cottage in Cape Breton. There's a real sense of romance and intimacy here, a multi-level deck, which is stunning- what an incredible panorama stretching out before you! You hear the sounds of the ocean all of the time- really a soothing thing.

What makes this property unique

Cape Breton is a spectacular place, and the scenery on this stretch of coast is particularly striking; the mountains, dramatic plunging cliffs and ocean make a stunning combination. it can also be dramatic, with 130 kph winds at many points of the year. The ocean is warm enough for swimming in the summer, and we see some of the most dramatic sunsets anywhere, watch whales play in our front yard, and fishermen haul their lobster traps each year. Moose, eagles, deer and foxes are regulars.

You are also close to the Cabot Trail (5 minutes), the National Park (25 minutes), and other towns and villages (5-15 minutes). If you are a golfer, you are close to Cabot Links & Cliffs in Inverness, which offer one of the great and unique golf experiences in North America. Cabot Cliffs is now ranked 9th in the world (!!) and was developed by Ben Cowan-Dewar and Mike Keiser (who developed Bandon Dunes in Oregon). The acclaim for Cabot so far is pretty much unanimous-from the New York Times to Golf Digest.

You can also take advantage of local restaurants, eat freshly cooked lobster or crab, and be only a short distance from one of the best hiking networks outside the Park, between Mabou and Inverness. There's also a fantastic boardwalk in Inverness, only 18 minutes away, which winds its way along the oceanfront, beach and golf course. Check out renowned crafters in the area; quilting, rug hooking, and folk art can all be found locally.
