About Jaime Vilas

Dear Guest,

My farm house is very rich in history. We just celebrated its 100 years in our family, but it is said the house dates back to 1876. It was bought by William Bishop, who gave his name to the street, in 1913.

In those times, it used to be a very small house on a very big land, 365 acres working farm. Since then it has seen its share of renovations and extensions (from 600 to 2000 scare feet) to accommodate a multi-generation family.

Over time the original lot was separated into smaller lots every time it was passed onto a new generation. Family members used to occupy the whole street making it a one close community.

As a kid, it was the dream vacation home where I could play with all my cousins, all summer long. And today I am trying to keep that dream alive by inviting other families to enjoy the property. Enjoy!

Jaime Vilas purchased this house in 1913

Our family loved staying here

  • 4 of 5

4 couples from our family stayed for the long weekend over Thanksgiving in this quaint, well maintained house with a huge porch. Everything was delightful and charming. The kitchen was big enough that we always found room, even for a big turkey dinner, and it was equipped well enough that we found everything we needed. There was plenty of dry firewood for the big fireplace in the charming main living room. Bedrooms all had comfortable double beds. There were enough places to sit and talk that we could have many different conversations in many places - you know how families can be. Even the little covered hut down by the water across the big lawn got some use. We ate mostly in the enclosed outdoor room because the dining room table was taken up by our jigsaw puzzle. There is lots of choice to eat out in Magog, ten minutes away.

We intend to go back next year.

If you love water, you are in the area of a 1000 lakes. You will find all you need at the Memphrémagog Yacht Club (http://www.voilememphremagog.com/) or here (http://www.cnplm-magog.net/), (http://www.lemerryclub.com/).

If you are looking for a little quiet time and maybe some introspection, we recommend a visit to the Saint-Benoit-du-lac Abbey only 5 minutes away (http://www.st-benoit-du-lac.com/). In fall you can go apple picking in their beautiful orchard and don't forget to pass by the store and get some of their famous cheese and other delicacies.

If at some point you become tired of cooking we recommend the very surprising Resto d'Austin (https://www.facebook.com/restodaustin/). Only a 4 minute drive for a great meal at a great price!
