About this property

Central to: Spirit of Suwannee Music Park, N. Fla. Springs, Wild Adventures Park

Set about 300 yards off the street, our home is conveniently located just 3 miles from Live Oak. It is surrounded by 200+ acres of commercial timberland and old-growth, upland hardwood forest.

On the same property we have two additional VRBO homes. Booked together we can host a total of 25 Guests! One is next door (300' away), the other is a 1 mile drive. For more info, search for "Catherine's Place" and "Inn the Woods" or message us for links to them.

Our home was built in 1943 from timber off the land by Host's grandparents and is of old Florida Cracker architecture. The home has been updated with central Heat & AC, WiFi (17+ Mbps), and 4 Smart HDTVs that stream online content.

Our home is set about 300 yards off the street and beside other homes with their own driveways 50 yards to each side.

Guests will have access to the entire home other than 2 closets secured with deadbolt locks and marked "Owners Closet."

Our neighborhood is quiet and is not on a commercial street or main highway. The street begins 2 miles away in a residential subdivision in town and ends about a mile past our home.

There is a state managed public lake less than a mile away that has fishing piers, a boat ramp, and plenty of parking space. Suwannee Lake was temporarily closed for a couple of years for renovations but has now reopened. Don't expect to water ski here, at 63 acres its more a fishing pond with quite a few cypress tress.

Our rural community has no public transportation. There is taxi service and an uncontrolled general aviation airport (24J) with one paved 4000' runway about 6 miles away.

A Greyhound bus terminal is about 22 miles away in Lake City. Closest commercial airports are, Valdosta, Ga, 50 mi.; Gainesville, Fl., 68 mi.; Jacksonville, Fl., 90 mi.; Tallahassee, Fl., 95 mi.; Orlando, 185 mi.; and Tampa 200 mi.

Amtrak service to the US mid-Atlantic and Northeastern states as well as Central and South Florida is available from Jacksonville, 90 miles away.

Many people enjoy riding bicycles on our rural highways and there are dozens of miles of paved rails to trails paths within a half-hour.

Distance to area attractions:
Camp Weed & Cerveny Conference Center (Episcopal), 6 Miles
Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park, 10 Miles
Suwannee River State Park, 16 Miles
Advent Christian Village at Dowling Park, 20 Miles
Ichetucknee Springs, 28 Miles
Other Springs, 10 - 40 Miles
Wild Adventures Park in Lake Park, Ga., 47 Miles
Steinhatchee/Gulf Coast, 57 Miles

My wife Vicki and I travel a lot and often have very little or no contact with our guests. However, we have a handyman and a housekeeper available for most issues that may arise.

Quaint little piece of paradise
Everything was easy. Property is very historic and nice. The owner is very easy to communicate with. There was a storm right before we came. They did everything they could to get everything restored for us to be there. They went above and beyond to make sure we had contact info for everyone. Minutes from great restaraunts. Thanks for allowing us to enjoy your property.

About the host

Host profile image
I am a pilot who flies as Captain for a major US airline.

My wife and I travel a lot and often have very little or no contact with our guests. However, we employee a full time property manager for our rental home business and he is available for any issues that arise.

Our vacation travel always includes each other. We enjoy boating the rivers, springs, lakes and Gulf of Mexico near us in northern Florida and we spend a lot of time at our other home closer to the Suwannee and Santa Fe rivers. We are both PADI certified divers and enjoy warm and wet outdoor activities...

Why they chose this property

Our home was built by my grandfather in 1943 using timber off the land and it sits on 200+ acres, some of which has been in my family since the 1800s. It was renovated in 1980 and 1992 and has been updated to modern plumbing, wiring, and central heat and air, none of which was a part of the original home.

Five generations of my family have lived on the property, including four in this home. My mother was born here in 1925 and to her death 96+ years later she lived here.

The property was used as a tobacco farm until the 1980s and has since been planted in pine tree fields amid an old growth, upland hardwood forest.

What makes this property unique

The home is centrally located to lots of northern Florida activities from Spirit of the Suwannee Music Park to tubing the Ichetucknee River to enjoying the many fresh water springs to fishing and scalloping in the Gulf of Mexico to Wild Adventure Park in Lake Park, Ga., this and much more are within 10 minutes to 1 hour from our home.
