The house is tastefully decorated and offers two private bedrooms (both with a queen size mattress) and an upstairs loft with two twin beds, a toddler car bed and a pull out chair that turns into a twin bed. The sunroom downstairs offers beautiful views of the pond. It also has a pull out couch that turns into a full size bed. The upstairs loft has plenty of books and toys for the kids. Amenities outside the house include floats, beach toys, Adirondack chairs, fire pit, outdoor table on the deck, 2 kayaks and your own floating dock. A quick kayak ride or a good swim away sits two small islands great for the kids to explore. The town of Camden is minutes away which offers boutique shopping, art museums, excellent restaurants and antiquing. If you like good coffee you must check out Zoot coffee in town. Camden Harbor offers beautiful views, sailing excursions, kayak tours and sightseeing. If you are looking for even more you can drive north or south to Belfast, Rockport, Rockland or Acadia. There are numerous farm stands to buy your vegetables and fresh eggs. You won't get bored, but you could also just stay at the house and swim all day.

About Becky Kristiansen

We purchased this home to give our boys summer experiences they would never forget. We get the added benefit of being close to family when we visit. Renting it out isn't a necessity for us, but we take pleasure in sharing with others the joy we experience when we "get away from it all".

Becky Kristiansen purchased this house in 2015

Why Becky Kristiansen chose Camden

Although the summers do get hot the ocean water stays cold! We couldn't pass up on opportunity to have a house on a pond where we can swim any day of the summer in comfortable water. Plus the view is just spectacular!

What makes this house unique

This home has it's own special charm. After we purchased it we updated the roof, water system and water heater. It provides the right amount of comfort, but still has that Maine "campy' charm with it's laid back kitchen and white washed sunroom. You won't find many luxury items in the home, but you will find all you need to have a relaxing stay away from it all.

Camden, Maine is proud to call itself the "Jewel of the Coast." A beautiful seaport town with a harbor full of sail boats, Camden has been used as the setting for so many movies, from Carousel to Peyton Place, that it is what many people think of when they think of New England. With a series of annual festivals running all year round, including the US Toboggan Championships, the Summer HarborArts, Lobster Fest, Juried Arts & Craft Show and Windjammer Weekend, there is always something to do in Camden.

Relaxing and fantastic rental

  • 5 of 5

This was my second time renting this property in Camden. The town is absolutely adorable with great shopping, eats and charm. The first time I rented this easygoing and relaxing cottage was over the summer. We had an awesome time. The house had everything we needed and the added bonus of the pond was really cool. The water was clean and deep and my husband enjoyed taking out the kyack to fish. This place has a great floating dock which was fun and everything felt really safe and easy. The house is honestly great. Beds were comfortable and the sunroom was lovely in the morning for coffee and the evening for wine if or you can make a fire outside. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we rented the cottage again for leaf peeping and thanksgiving. I wasn’t worried about being able to cook everything because the kitchen is well stocked. You can’t go wrong here. Staying at this house has prompted us to look for our own gem in Camden and wish this Home was for sale! I can honestly say that my only complaint is not having more vacation time. The value is here for this rental.

Wonderful cozy cottage with a peaceful view!

  • 5 of 5

My family had such a wonderful stay in this sweet little cottage! I loved having coffee in the mornings and looking at the beautiful view of the water and trees. Our boys loved exploring and playing in the backyard while we could sit on the deck and watch them. They loved taking the kayak out to explore around the pond and go on the rock islands that are in the middle of it. Our boys really loved their space in the upstairs loft with their beds, a big space to play, and new toys to check out.

It’s very close to town so it was easy to find a great place to eat and do some shopping. It was such a cozy little retreat after adventuring during the day. The owners were wonderful to work with and recommended some nice restaurants and things to do. We can’t wait to visit again!

Cozy home with beautiful views!

  • 5 of 5

The home sits directly on a pond with beautiful mountain views and great kayaking Two kayaks are even provided by the owners for use. There is a nice floating dock close by for easy access. Each night we would watch the ducks fly in and land on the water followed by a nice relaxing fire accompanied by a nice breeze off the water. Mornings included making a nice breakfast in the spacious kitchen and eating together in the window filled sun room. The home is nicely decorated and includes plenty of toys for kids both inside the house and outside the house for use in the water. The owners were very accommodating and were easy to reach if we needed anything. They welcomed us with a very nice little gift basket and offered a binder full of things to do in the area. The town of Camden is beautiful as well and offers plenty to do including great shops, bars, and restaurants. Give this house a look and you won't be disappointed.

Some nice features, but overall disappointing and overpriced

  • 2 of 5

We've been renting houses in the area for years, and think this one – though it has a number of nice features -- was overpriced.

The positives: There is a tiny beach, which is good for small children, and the fishing is decent (large-mouth bass and the odd panfish at dusk). The beds are firm, there are toys for toddlers, and the view from the porch is and the sunroom is lovely.

The negatives: The description of the house is completely misleading. First, it sits right on a major road, so there’s a lot of noise — from the constant traffic to the construction going on down the street. The street is so close that families with small children will have to worry about their toddlers running out into it. The house itself is tiny and loud, so it’s really not appropriate for more than one couple or families with older children.

It's also in dire need of renovation and poorly equipped. For example, there’s no dishwasher, but the older sink is too small to wash up easily. Like the rest of the house, the kitchen is a bit run down, lacks a lot of utensils, and the few pots and pans are cheap and falling apart, so cooking wasn’t much fun. We could not locate the foosball table that was advertized. The house has no grill (a surprise at this price point), but the description mentioned a fire pit. The upright metal container we found (which we figured was the fire pit) is a poor substitute. Lastly, the pond is very small, so if you’re interested in doing a lot of kayaking, it’ll be disappointing.

Owner's Response: Jonathan, We are disappointed that you did not thoroughly enjoy your stay at our property. When my husband and I bought the place we were taken with the idea of our kids creating lifelong memories in Maine as they grow, plus we had the added benefit of family being close. We don't have to rent the place out, but we do because we genuinely want others to experience the same sense of peace, connection and satisfaction we get when we spend time here. Our place is not a luxury rental and it never claimed to be. The pots and pans are new as is the firepit (that is a real chimenea), but they are not high end items. We will add a grill and more fun items in the months and years to come, but in the meantime we still feel like there are many other endearing qualities of our place that make it a perfect fit for some people. I guess it wasn't your cup of tea. We wish you well and hope you continue to vacation in and around the area. It truly is a magical place.

One of the best places we have stayed

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from our stay in Camden and it could not have been any better. The house is perfect. The kids were able to swim and play in the water all day. The floating dock was perfect for hours of entertainment. My husband and I kayaked around in the water a few times. We ended up renting paddle boards in town and enjoyed SUP'ing around on the water.

Thank you for your welcome basket filled Maine specialties. It was a nice personal touch!

When the kids got tired they were able to crash upstairs in the loft. It was nice that they had a place to themselves inside the house. Our youngest enjoyed all the toys, books and crafts in the house. We didn't even have to leave the house but when we did it was nice that the town was a close drive away.

Having that binder full of recommendations and suggestions was so helpful since we weren't familiar with the area. One day we did a hike that was recommended and we ate at a few of the restaurants on the list.

Overall it was one of the best vacations we have had as a family. The booking process was easy and the communication with the owner was seamless. We will definitely be booking this place again!
