Charming private apartment in the hearth of Venice, finely furnished, quiet and comfortable. Encased by canals and a private courtyard (magnificent Corte Zorzi) allowing access to the building, Astarte apart is absolutely quiet as it is sheltered by any possible hustle and bustle of tourists.

Anyway the area is not a massive touristic path, it is an hidden corner just behind Saint_Mark’s square.

Typical “battuto veneziano” floors, ceiling beams and Murano glass chandliers, within a magnificent canal view over a secondary canal where just gondolas are allowed to navigate, bring guests in a real and agreeable venetian atmosphere.

Astarte equipment allow guests to prepare any meal for an easy self-catering.

Good location- and that's alll.

The apartment was clean and the location ideal. Mathilda was very pleasant and tried to be helpful. She arranged the vaporetto for our departure. Unfortunately, after that the best I can say is it was "bare bones". The furniture is very outdated and beds were very uncomfortable. The frame of the double bed kept moving from side to side and we needed to put a cushion in the footboard area to keep the pillows on the bed. There are MANY, STEEP steps so beware if you have limitations or heavy luggage. There was barely enough toilet paper, for two couples, no paper towels and only one small trash bag. We won't stay there again.

Good location, but some things to keep in mind

We loved the location and the view from the apartment. I decided to write some things that I think it will be helpful for future guests. Hopefully the host won't be too defensive.

The contact person kept changing up to the last minute which made me a bit nervous, but Matilde, the person who met us at the water bus station was great. When we left, she had to check us out earlier than she planned because another guest locked themselves out and she had to go help them. However, she hurried back to help us to the water bus station.

When you look this place up, it will probably show up in US dollar or whatever the currency you set as. But when it comes to payment, it will be in Euro. So depending on the conversion rate at that time, it can make a difference. Also, if you use Paypal to pay, you are responsible to pay for processing fee, not the host. And the tourist tax amount I was quoted kept changing. I was told that my 7 yr old child will be charged since she is older than 6yr old. But I found out that the anyone under 10yr old is exempted and should not be charged at all. So I had to email the host to clarify it. It is a small amount, but inconsistency made me feel a bit uncomfortable.

The place smelled like cigarette first time I walked in. Maybe some guests didn't follow the rule, but we got used to it after a while. The floor felt sandy, so I had to vacuum right after I checked in. There is basically no condiments to cook with. I finally found salt, but that was it. So if you plan on cooking there, but don' t want to bother going to the market and bringing back big bottles, bring a small amount of whatever you think you need, i.e. Oil, pepper, coffee.

The washing machine smelled mildewy which didn't improve after using it a couple of times. My clothes smelled ok though. Oh, the Italian washing machine seems to take a long time, so give yourself more than 2 hours to finish the laundry. The wi-fi was unreliable. It basically stopped working even after rebooting, so I gave up. There will be working boats( trash collecting boat and construction boat, etc)going by the canal in the morning. We enjoyed watching them, but if you are sensitive to noise and want to sleep in, bring earplugs. TV didn't work, but radio did. Shower water temperature was a little tricky to control to keep it at the optimum temperature(for me).

Over all, It was a unique and convenient location and we enjoyed watching gondolas going by : )

Owner's Response: Dear Guest, thank u for your kind Review: I hope u won't be too defensive but it seems to be written by a child. Even if well explained (twice), u did not understand the difference between currency conversion rate and currency change fee applied by any Bank/Paypal or else when u change your currency to another. This is important to understand which kind of person wrote the Review (not really used to travel?). Then well, everything else goes with it: a pudding of supposed arguments, conjectures, unuseful suggestions. What I can say is just that everything in my apart finely works: Wi-Fi as well as TV, clothes washer and everything else. Concerning morning noise the apart is in the hearth of Venice and what u hear in the morning is just the light noise of the Town waking up around u. The front canal is usually just for gondolas and really quiet, maybe u found an exception due to extraordinary interventions in the nearby? Finally, despite to this miscellaneous of arguments I thank u for your overall positive evaluation and appreciation. Andrea, Owner and Manager.

Fascinating view and great location

We all enjoyed watching the gondolas outside the window marvelling at how many people spent 100 euros for a 30 min ride. It was fun to get lost looking for sights and always easy to find the way back to the apartment with st marks square so close. The apartment itself was clean and the kitchen outfitted well but the furnishings and t.v. needed updating. The wifi connection was good and the a/c worked well to keep the bedrooms cool only if the doors were kept open. We enjoyed our stay

Great apartment in Venice

We recently stayed in this apartment during our 2 days in Venice. The apartment is exactly as described - central location (literally steps away from Piazza San Marco but still feels like you are away from all the crowds when you are in the apartment), easy walk to where water taxis drop you off to/from airport, clean space and managers were easy to deal with (from the booking to giving us many suggestions of where to go when we arrived). We did not cook at all in the apartment but it looked like it was well stocked with everything you would need. When we were not out touring the city, we sat at the living room windows and watched the gondolas pass by. We would rent here again if we come back to Venice.

Hearth of Venice, few meters from St. Marc square, perfect for an easy sight-seeing.

A private internal XVI Cent. Venetian courtyard (Corte Zorzi) allow access to the building and also shelter the apart from any possible tourist’s hustle and bustle. In fact the apart is absolutely quiet.

Charming view on the nice canal behind its windows (Canale Orseolo) where just gondolas are allowded to navigate all day long (gondolas deposit and main departure area is 50 meters far).
