Exploring eastern Sicily: The accommodation is an excellent base from which to explore eastern Sicily and the volcano Etna. It is just five kilometres from the highway 10 km from Catania and 15 km from Acireale (a pretty little city, built on a plateau of lava, that is known for its Baroque churches). Santa Maria la Scala and Santa Tecla are pleasant seaside villages near Acireale. Gardini Naxos, a seaside resort with beautiful sandy beaches distances 40 km. And a bit further we find Taormina ‘the pearl of the Mediterranean’ and the most exclusive seaside resort in Sicily. Its ancient Greek theatre is world famous for its extraordinary panoramic views. Syracuse and Noto are a 1 hour drive away.
We have been with Homeaway since 2006, proposing houses that are able to unfold Sicily's colours and charm at best.
Houses with quality furnishing in unique locations, with incredible views or with a pool, always accurately selected in order to satisfy our main wish: to see you falling in love with Sicily just like we did.
We provide you with transparent information and true pictures. What you see is exactly what you get. We will advise you as much as we can about travel info, transfers and car rental.
Dinners in villas and other extra services can also be arranged. Finally, our prices are final rates! There are no hidden additional costs. We are flexible with your arrivals and departures and if you need a late check-in this is usually possible.
Prices include use of air-conditioning, final cleaning, linen and towels, water, gas, electricity.
Mascalucia would probably not be an obvious choice for a holiday destination, but has all the amenities you need to eat and drink. We rented a car, but the town is not easy to find without a good map or satnav, and the accommodation even more difficult. The free maps with our Marco Polo Guide and from Europcar were quite inadequate for the area, but the purchase of a decent road map made life a lot easier.
The accommodation - pretty much what it said on the tin - was a charming and quite private cottage in the most wonderful estate garden, orientated towards providing shade and full of different trees and shrubs. It was clean and comfortable and broadly provided what was required for a self-catering/eating out stay, though sparse on kitchen utensils - Italian style - for serious cooking.
Our resident hosts were charming and accommodating, as indeed almost all Sicilians seem to be.
We particularly enjoyed visiting the lower slopes of Mount Etna, south side, and went there twice just to walk and to admire the terrain and the views.
Taormina, a few miles up the coast, was a really funky place which we also really enjoyed visiting.
We would recommend the accommodation to others, though its location might not suit all needs.
