Costa de la Luz's exclusive Roche, fenced pool, beach 150m, WIFI,

Overview

Property

Updated: 18-Nov-2016
Roche, Costa de la Luz. 4 bed/2 bath, beach 200m, fenced pool, WIFI, heating

Let the sound of surf and nightingales send you to sleep! Well-kept, mature garden, with umbrella pines, palms, and rubber plants provides sun and shade, and the fenced 8mx4m salt-water pool is perfect for children. 150m away, the 8km Atlantic beach is ideal for sand-castles, beach cricket, and surfing. This Andalusian-style villa sleeps 2-8 with comfortable furnishings and many of the Spanish owner's personal touches (including his own paintings of local scenes). The sitting/dining room opens on to 30 square metres of covered terrace. Fully furnished from spring to autumn and looking over the pool, it faces west and makes the ideal spot for lazy afternoons. Another smaller terrace outside the kitchen is perfect for breakfast. Pot plants and aromatic plants abound. Jerez, Cádiz, Tarifa, Seville, and the famous 'white villages' are all within easy reach. Activities include watersports and tennis (walking distance), golf (5 mins), mountain biking (from doorstep).

Immediate vicinity: Casa Luis is situated in what is arguably the best corner of the most exclusive urbanisation on the Costa de La Luz. Positioned on a cul-de-sac in the oldest corner of Urbanización Roche, for 9 months of the year you are normally able walk the 150 metres to the beach without seeing anyone. Once on the beach, one of the best on this coast, you can walk 8km in one direction (to the old tuna fishing port of Sancti Petri) or 1km in the other, to a series of protected bays with rock pools know as the Calas de Conil. The sea is normally warm enough to swim in right through to December, and it starts to warm up again at Easter. During the summer months, there is a choice of beach bars, and there are also good restaurants (walking distance) that are open throughout the year (el Timón de Roche and at the Hotel Barceló Sancti Petri). The Hotel Barceló also has a wonderful spa. Within Roche itself there are basic shops and sports facilities (see above), all of which are walkable.

Activities: There are numerous activities available in the surrounding area, ranging from hiking or surfing to bird watching and ballooning. The owner can help you organise all of these, including personal guides: please contact him for details.

The province of Cádiz also has a large choice of gold courses, including the following:

Benalup (25 mins): 18 holes.

Las Lomas (5 mins): 18 holes.

San Andrés (10 mins): 18 holes.

Meliá Sancti Petri (5 mins): 18 holes.

Valderrama, San Roque, Sotogrande (all 90 mins).

Montenmedio (20 mins): 18 holes (Championship course).

Sancti Petri (5 mins): 36 holes (Seve Ballesteros-designed).

Montecastillo (40 mins): 18 holes (Jack Nicklaus-designed and home to Volvo Masters).

Excursions: Again, please contact the owner for details, but it will be impossible to get bored! You have on your doorstep:

-Beautiful hilltop villages (Medina Sidonia, Vejer, Arcos, Alcalá de los Gazules)

-Cádiz (30 mins): ramble around the old part of what is arguably Europe's oldest city

-Jerez (45 mins): visit Domecq or Gonzalez Byass or the famous riding school

-Seville (75mins): where to start? Worth a weekend all on its own!

-Tarifa (45mins): sit on the ramparts and gaze across at Africa or go clubbing!

-Sanlucar de Barrameda (60 mins): sip sherry and watch the horse races on the beach

-Visit a bull farm

-Go whale watching

-Lunch in Tanger (45mins on hydrofoil)

-Take the ferry from Cádiz to Puerto Santa Maria and eat giant gambas out of newspaper (no chips / no vinegar!)

-Visit the stunning Roman ruins of Baeolo Claudio at Bolonia

-Visit Cape Trafalgar (better still in a big storm!)

- Take the kids the Aquasherry waterpark (near Jerez)

About the Owner

We are a husband-wife team that left Madrid for Spain’s deep south and a change of ...well, virtually everything really! We came up with the idea of Dos Xtremos in 2006, the catalyst being the need to increase the number of people renting our own properties, one in La Coruña and the other in Cadiz (Atlantic Spain’s two wonderful extremes). And since then, even though the business has grown (we now manage a number of properties for other owners), our goal has always been the same: “these are two wonderful and relatively undeveloped areas of Spain that have brought us enormous happiness; so let’s try and tell other people about them!” For this reason, the website has a heavy focus on regional information and includes details on the activities that we enjoy, both individually and as a family with young children.

All our houses are in the provinces of La Coruña and Cadiz, although there is a significant bias towards Cadiz, because that is where we live! Each house has been chosen because it has something special to offer, and we have tried to ensure that the mix meets a variety of tastes and requirements. In the case of the Cadiz properties, we live close by, meaning we are on-hand for problem solving and making recommendations. You may prefer to lounge by the pool (all our pools are very tempting), but if you do want to explore, we have suggestions to fill a lot more than two weeks! As for La Coruña, we personally are a long way away, but the properties are well looked after and our list of recommendations is even longer (to offset the less predictable weather!) We have a close and productive working relationship with all our owners, and we believe this shows in the way our properties are maintained.

Perfect two weeks in Casa Luis

  • 5 of 5

Second time at the beautiful Casa Luis and another perfect stay. The house is in the perfect location close to the beach (which is probably the best in the Cadiz coast) and has beautiful gardens surrounding with some shaded places under the pine trees for hot days. Andrew and team make the stay really comfortable and are there at the drop of a hat when needed. Lots of fantastic places to eat close-by.

Casa Luis - brilliant stay.

  • 5 of 5

Amazing location - so close to beach and play park. Easy to amuse both a 5 year old and a 13 year old - especially with pool and table tennis - so adults were able to sit back and relax, a little!

Casa Luis was exactly as described - everything in great working order - loved the coffee maker and juice maker.

Would definitely recommend, and are very much looking forward to returning!

Quite and comfortable - perfect for families

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 2 two harmonic weeks in the Casa Luis, which did exactly meet our expectations after having read the descriptions and reviews. It is large enough for five to six people, although it can house up to eight. The furniture is tasteful, the kitchen fully equipped and the two bathrooms are small but freshly renovated. The pool is large enough for children after the beach time and the beautiful, large garden is very well maintained. The beach close to the house (2 min walking) is very clean and ideally suited for long beach days with the children. During our stay the long waves did come smoothly enough to allow also our younger children to surf with their body boards.

Roche itself is a quite location, consisting mostly of private houses as the Casa Luis. We did not see any hotels there, which is a clear advantage from our point of view. The small supermarket nearby is sufficient for the basics and Conil de la Frontera, where you can get everything, is just 10 minutes away by car. There are only a few restaurants in Roche but we anyway explored several of the beautiful neighboring cities for dinner and therefore did not miss them. Last but not least Andrew, who manages several houses in Roche, has been very helpful with lots of tips and clues. All in all a clear recommendation for families.

Great location, beach and house

  • 5 of 5

Casa Luis was a very comfortable villa with a nice sized pool, large garden (enough room for our 7 year old to kick a ball around) and great location. Despite being in a small residential community with neighbours, the house and garden/pool were very quiet and private as there are many trees and bushes on the property. Inside, the house has a nice lived-in (in a good way) feel to it, with comfortable furniture and beds, decorations, books and other personal items – it felt like we were staying at someone's house as opposed to just a rental property.

It's just a 2 minute walk to the Roche beach. And what a beach: great sand, nice waves (not too big or too small), perfect water temperature, backed by vegetation not hotel/condos, lifeguards and never too crowded.

There's a decent chiringuito just down the beach about a 10 minute walk from the house and a fairly well stocked little store as well as some sports fields and restaurants in the centre of Roche, about a 10 minute walk. Within a 10 minute drive there are a couple small places to buy fish, vegetables and a larger grocery store.

Andrew was great, he was easily reached by phone or email and was very helpful with tips for restaurants (El Casario pizza was great) and activities. When the hot water went out one day he was over to fix it promptly (I believe he lives just down the road). Wifi and sat-tv, with some English channels, worked fine. The only small con I can think of is that the bedrooms could use some fans for hot nights (master had a ceiling fan but smaller bedrooms didn't, most nights it was fine but we had a couple hot ones).

This area of Spain was wonderful, outside the other built up coastal areas so there's some nice driving through the surrounding countryside, but close to many beautiful towns for daytrips. We went to Vejer, Cadiz and Tarifa (a little further but had a fantastic couple hours whale watching, saw a ton of Orca's!).

We would highly recommend this house for its fantastic beach location, comfort and proximity to so many wonderful places to visit.

Owner's Response: I'm glad your stay was such a success, and thank you for taking the time to write a review. You mention the idea of ceiling fans in all the bedrooms for the really hot nights (even though we have few of these!), and you will be pleased to know that they have already been installed!!!!

Nice villa, great location

  • 5 of 5

Great villa in a nice resort. Location was superb, just down the road from a beautiful beach. Being all on one level was great, especially with small children. Pool was lovely, clean and secure. Andrew was very helpful and willing to help when needed. We will be back one day...

Location

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Jerez at 45 Kilometres Nearest Ferry : Cádiz at 25 Kilometres Nearest Train : San Fernando at 15 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : Colorado at 5 Kilometres Nearest Beach : at 150 Metres Car: recommended

Easy drive to Jerez /sherry houses), Cádiz (possibly Europe's oldest city), Tarifa (and the boat to Tangiers), the wonders of Seville, and the intriguing pueblos blancos (white villages), which include Vejer-de-la-Frontera. This is the Spain of fighting bulls and flamenco, ferias, and finos, and fine simple food. Visit the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudio, the lighthouse at Cape Trafalgar, or the old tuna fishing port at Sancti Petri. 30% of the Cádiz Province is National Park, and here you will find green rolling hills more akin to Ireland or Wales but with giant cactus hedges, one of the world's most important cork forests, and a micro climate within the Alcornocales park that is regarded as the the last Mediterranean jungle. It is an easy walk to the chemist, for newspaper, hot bread, mini market, and bar; also to playground, tennis, and 5-a-side soccer. 20-minute walk down beach to fine restaurants and a heavenly spa! Yet at night you will hear the waves, nightingales and owls.

Other Activities: Kayaking, bird watching, whale watching, ballooning, climbing

Notes:

  • The main drawing points for visitors to Casa Luis appear to be the large covered terrace, which, when fully furnished, acts as an extension to the sitting/dining room. From here, you can see the pool and enjoy the afternoon sun (or shade). One of the other big attractions is the fenced salt-water pool, which is ideal for children. Built on one floor, and with off-road parking, Casa Luis is also comfortable for the elderly. And the central heating and open fire make it a cosy retreat for winter stays (with the Atlantic roaring at night). But perhaps the greatest asset of all is the location: The beach is close enough for that pre-breakfast dip; and fresh bread, newspaper, bar, and tennis courts are a 5-minute walk; while 2 restaurants (and the spa!) are a 20-minute stroll down the beach.
