Sugar HIll is on the West coast of Barbados in St James bordering the Caribbean Sea, wonderful for swimming and all watersport activities. At most hotels there is on offer water skiing, snorkeling and diving. Just drive into the hotel and tell security that you are going to the water sports area. Or call ahead and reserve time with your selected water spots facility. Fishing boats are on hire for deep sea fishing, there are many day and night trips on a variety of boats with snorkeling with lunch and drinks included.
If you prefer to explore the island and are interested in history, drive into The Garrison area which has recently become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This area is unique because it has survived intact, the buildings are now used for other purposes, becoming homes and business premises. Go to St Anns Fort and see the fine collection of 16th 17th Century cannons. An old custom has been revived every Wednesday at 11.50 at the Clock Tower the Changing of the sentry takes place, its free and charming with a small band playing and the personell dressed in their traditional Zoave unfforms it is a step back in time. The Barbados Museum is nearby, housed in the old hospital and prison, well worth a visit to see so many historical aspects of Barbados displayed together. George Washington House is on The Garrison, Barbados is the only country he visited outside the USA. It is a charming house beautifully and sensitively restored, the visit opens with an infomative film. Do visit the magnificent East Coast, breath the fresh air straight from Africa, walk the beaches, take care if swimming as it is dangerous but there are rock pools to explore and paddle in to cool off. Drive along the East Coast Road now called ( I think Emmy Bourne Highway).
The Sugar Hill resort is wonderfully placed to enjoy the best that Barbados has to offer. Saint James has a fabulous run of restaurants and quiet secluded west coast beaches. The villa is well appointed with a fine well equipped kitchen. The large terrace provides ample opportunity for al fresco dining and the pool is just a hundred feet or so away. All the bedrooms have direct access to the outside by either private balcony or the terrace. Sugar Hill itself has many nice features. The view from the clubhouse is spectacular and that view is available from the pool, bar and restaurant. A brisk walk around the grounds is a great way to get the day started. Barbados has all you would expect in a caribbean island. Great beaches, diving, golf and sail cruises but there is a unique feel to Barbados that I believe stems from its history and topography.
We have visted many islands and Barbados has the most diverse types of terrain of any place we have been. The east coast looks like the Big Sur while the south reminds me of the Bahamas. We took a zip line adventure throught he trees and had lunch at the east coast Atlantis hotel with the surf crashing right below our window. We toured a historic sugar plantation and stopped by the Mount Gay store for some supplies. We had dinner and drinks at a number of very refined posh establishments in Saint James and also had a great meal in a local Friday night fish fry. The night sky is very clear and I had my first unforgettable look at the Southern Cross. All in all a great vacation and we look forward to returning to Barbados and Sugar Hill many times in the future.
The villa was very comfortable and well-located.
A lot of effort was put into us having a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
Would certainly come again, thanks!
This is a delightful villa to stay in. Spacious yet secluded and well equipped. The outdoor terrace is great with plenty of sunny and shady spots depending on your mood. Plenty of loungers, chairs, tables and a sofa to laze on or eat at. The very well appointed two communal pools are a very short walk from the villa's terrace across the lovely and well maintained communal gardens. The clubhouse is a fabulous facility overlooking the sea right on your doorstep where you can dine, have a drink or laze by the pool. The two main bedrooms are much larger than one would find in a hotel with lots of hanging and storage space. The upstairs main bedroom has its own lovely terrace. The bathrooms are all spacious and well equipped. Located 10 minutes from the bars and restaurants on the west coast so really close to the action as well if that is what you want. A gem of a place. The perfect holiday retreat. I will return. Suzanne
The villa was beautiful and well equipped. Manty made our stay wonderful. We had a much needed girls trip and Manty gave us so many suggestions on beaches, sights, restaurants, etc. she helped us arrange car service and had a car delivered to the villa for us. What a wonderful host and a beautiful island. We will definitely return. Thanks again Manty!
What can we say about this beautiful villa other than its..amazing. We had a wonderful stay in Coconut Shell, the villa decor and outside space make this villa a truly wonderful place to spend time. The pool and resort amenties were great. Manty stayed in contact with us during our bookings and was extremley helpful, as to was Morine the housekeeper who couldn't do enough for us.
We would definetly come back to Coconut Shell on our next visit to Barbados.
Thank you Veronica and Stuart for letting us stay.

My family and I had a wonderful
Holiday. The villa was immaculate and better than the photos online. Manty and Morine looked after us perfectly. The pools at the complex are great and the beach club wonderful. We will definitely be back in the future 😃👍
As the title suggests we visited Barbados last February and loved it so much we immediately booked for this year. The house layout suits us perfectly with 2 double bedrooms and 1 twin over 2 floors. My Mother travelled with us and having her own room downstairs was brilliant. Manty looks after us very well and acts as my wine merchant which is incredibly dangerous as I'm always disappointed with the Rose at home in the UK, it just doesn't taste the same without the requisite sunshine.
There is a new lady called Karon who tidies the house and changes the beds etc each morning, it works really well and she is very friendly and terribly efficient.
It is a super property in an idyllic setting. If we ever visited Barbados again there is nowhere else I would wish to stay.
