Overview

About the property

2 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleep 6

Enjoy a true one of a kind experience in one of the most beautiful places in Colorado. Here's what some of last year's guests had to say, “Rocky Mountain Paradise", "fabulous", "beautiful", "magical", "cozy", "hideaway in the mountains", "excellent", "breathtaking views", "modern cabin", "location is excellent", "awesome cabin", "great views", "true high desert experience", "clean and comfortable in a quiet, secluded location", "wonderful views", "It was amazing...”.

Come stay in a unique and secluded cabin just minutes from The Great Sand Dunes National Park. Located in a gated community with private access (via a short hike) to the incredible Zapata Falls, this cabin offers amazing mountain views from a wrap-around deck and second floor balcony. Watch the sun rise over Mt. Blanca; considered sacred to many Native American tribes, and set over the largest alpine valley in the world.

The Great Sand Dunes National Park is only 5 minutes away and offers days of enjoyment playing on the sands of the highest dunes in North America and getting cooled off in the lifeblood of the dunes - Medano Creek. The Great Sand Dunes pool is a mere 20 minutes to the west by the little town of Hooper. If the weather is cool or rainy, spend the day in the warm natural hot springs of the must-visit pool that is open year-round. If an active outdoor vacation in a truly unique setting is your goal, then this cabin is for you.

The cabin itself is situated on a very private acre and a half with a seasonal stream running just beyond the wrap-around deck. It features two comfortable bedrooms, both with queen-sized beds and walk-in closets. There is also a second floor with a futon for additional sleepers. Be aware that the stairs are rather steep and may be a challenge to elderly guests. The fully-equipped kitchen comes with all the appliances, cookware, and utensils you will need. There is also a gas grill on the deck to fulfill your grilling needs.

Because of the cabin's privacy and seclusion, there is no Internet and cell-phone reception is spotty at best. Because of this, we have hundreds of movies at your disposal to watch on the 2 flat-screen TVs and a radio to pick up the local stations. The sound system also features Bluetooth connectivity to pair with your phone. However, when you're enjoying the views of The Great Sand Dunes framed by the jagged peaks of the Sangre de Cristo mountain range, you will probably prefer to just unplug and connect with nature.

Note: The rental of this cabin requires a 3-night minimum stay, however 2-night stays during non-weekend times will be considered. Contact the owner for possibilities.

Great in every way!

  • 5 of 5

The location of this cabin is wonderful. It is secluded, with amazing views of the Sand Dunes and the mountains. When we arrived, there was a personal note from the owner welcoming us and a bottle of wine.

We would recommend this beautiful home to anyone.

Amazing view of the dune from a very lovely home!

  • 4 of 5

We had an excellent time staying so close to Great Sand Dunes National Park. The home is very clean and we loved the little stream on the property and the perfect view of the dunes.

We had our 2 young children with us and they were very happy to play outside in the stream and look for lizards around the yard. We took them to hike the dunes, play in the river, and rented sand sleds. We visited the park once a couple years ago but didn't stay so close. The location here was perfect because we didn't waste time driving to the park (which is very remote.) We saved a lot of time being so close and still saw lots of wildlife (deer in the neighborhood, 1 elk, 1 coyote, some pronghorn).

The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, utensils, etc. for preparing meals and there were nice amenities such as movies, a few toys, a telescope, comfortable furniture on the deck, and a grill. I even appreciated that there were tissues in each room and lotion available.

Unfortunately, there were so many mosquitoes while we were visiting that we didn't enjoy the lovely deck. The view from the living room was excellent, though, so I didn't feel like I was missing out.

The 4 star rather than 5 star rating is due to the beds. They were fine, just not 5 star. Neither room was really a master bedroom and the beds felt small.

Overall, it was an excellent weekend stay and I would recommend it!
