Overview

About the property

2 Bedroom house in a delightful setting in Dinan's Jardin Anglais

This is a pretty little 19th Century house located within the walls of the medieval town of Dinan in Brittany.

Its position in 'Le Jardin Anglais' (The English Garden) and beside the magnificent St Saveur Basilica is quite unique. Only a few minutes walk from the centre of the town with its restaurants, crepêries, shops and bars, it is nevertheless a peaceful and idyllic area. The house has been renovated to a high standard and is beautifully furnished and well equipped. The main living area is on the first floor so that the views of the church and the garden can be enjoyed. It includes: a modern kitchen, a lounge area with English language TV, DVD and hifi stereo, a dining area and a mezzanine office area with wifi. There are two double bedrooms, one large on the ground floor with en-suite bath, and one smaller on the top floor with en-suite shower. Although very compact, the space within the house is well designed and is ideal for one or two couples.

Dinan Town: Dinan is an architectural gem, ringed by 2,700 metres of ramparts. Its historic streets contain 15th and 16th Century half-timbered houses as well as Renaissance residences, Romanesque and Gothic churches and ancient chapels and convents.

The view from the Jardin Anglais is quite breathtaking, looking down on the ancient port and the magnificent viaduct which spans the River Rance.

A strenuous but rewarding walk is from the town to the port via the steep Rue de Petit Fort, one of the oldest streets in Dinan.

The town has over 35 eateries ranging from no frills bars to traditional creperies to cordon bleu restaurants.

Each Thursday there is a large market for fresh vegetables, cheese, bread and all sorts of other gastronomic delights.

Northern Brittany: Dinan lies 20 kilometers due south of the spectacular northern Brittany coastline. There are many beautiful beaches and resorts to explore including the historic fortified port of St Malo which is 35 minutes drive and the lovely seaside town of Dinard only 30 minutes away.

The capital city of Brittany is Rennes which is 50 minutes drive to the south, and well worth a day’s visit.

Inland Brittany is steeped in history and there are many fascinating places to visit including the fortress town of Fougeres and the towns and villages that skirt the River Rance.

About Jacci

We are France addicts! We love the culture, the food, the architecture.

Jacci purchased this house in 2005

Why Jacci chose Dinan

Brittany is so close to home and yet so far away psychologically. A short flight to Dinard or Rennes, or the lovely Brittany Ferry to St Malo and then to the house in 30 or 40 minutes. Then Dinan is so lovely, so friendly and so historic. The house is in possibly the best location in the town. What more could we ask?

What makes this house unique

We sit in the living area on the first floor and never fail to pinch ourselves when we look out of the window at the view of the beautiful gardens and magnificent St Sauveur Basilica. Then in the evening we walk out to a bar or restaurant just a few minutes away. In ten years we have never tired of visiting.

Beautiful Townhouse

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this pretty town house last week.  This is our 3rd visit to Dinan but the first time we have stayed here.

The view from the lounge window is beautiful overlooking the church and pretty gardens.  The house is well equipped and has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The town is just a few minutes stroll away where you can browse beautiful shops or watch the world go by sitting in the many beautiful restaurants, cafes and bars.  We had a beautiful meal in L’Antre Nous restaurant, which is a 2 minute walk from the house.  Friendly staff, beautiful food and wonderful atmosphere.

We would definitely stay at this property again – thank you!

Owner's Response: That’s so kind, thank you. We are pleased you enjoyed your week - Dinan never fails to charm us even after owning our pretty house for 10 years. We keep discovering new places of interest and also love the view from our first floor living room. Our French neighbours who are so kind and attentive are the icing for us! Enchanting!! You are most welcome to return. Jacci & Rob

Lovely townhouse close to the town and canal

  • 5 of 5

We spent 10 nights in the lovely town of Dinan- the house is very central and had everything we needed for our stay! Sean - the manager was very helpful and informative! A great base for exploring the surrounding areas of Brittany - we were meeting up with family to celebrate a 60th birthday so it all worked out great! Definitely hope to return to Dinan at some point - it is a beautiful place to spend a holiday!

Very French, Comfortable & Central

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in Dinan. Amazing place. The town house is lovely and in such a wonderful, convenient, quiet position. Parking was easy. We were greeted by Sean who gave us the best introduction to a place that we have ever had. I would highly recommend a stay at the town house in Dinan. Ann from Australia.

Owner's Response: Many thanks Ann. I have passed on your kind comments to Sean, it is good to know that our house manager is valued by guests and we think it is important to have someone just half an hour away should there by an emergency. We hope to hear from you another year. Kind regards, Jacci & Rob

Beautiful property. Convenient situation. Parking in convenient Parkhouse a minutes walk away.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in Dinan and explored the surrounding area along the beautiful coastline and towns close by. We found the butcher Mr. Yris, humorous and helpful although we could not speak a word of French. The kitchen is well equiped. House, cosy and welcoming. Mont-Saint-Michel an impressive sight to visit for an excursion. We hope to visit again sometime.

Beautiful French house in quiet area of Dinan

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful French town house opposite St Saviour Church and beautiful gardens. Lovely sitting relaxing looking out of the open window with a glass of wine listening to the church bells. We often sat in the church gardens enjoying the beautiful weather.

House is french style with modern facilities. House is minutes walking distance from the centre of Dinan, so much to see and explore the history of this beautiful medieval town, the castle, clock tower and little train are all worth seeing. The port is in walking distance also from the house, lots of restaurants and you can take a boat to the next village called Lehon, were there is a monastery to explore and open air swimming pool. The house is a 20 to 30 minutes drive to different beautiful beaches that are worth a visit, Dinard and St Malo and Mont St Michel are all a short drive away too and worth a visit.

The house is very comfortable and clean with modern facilities, the jacuzzi bath was lovely after a day sightseeing. We travelled with our teenage daughter who loved the bedroom at the top of the house with her own bathroom, and was impressed with the wifi.

Thank you Jacci and Rob for renting us your beautiful house in Dinan, we would certainly recommend to others and hope to return again in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much Sarah for taking the time to write such a detailed review. Although we initially had reservations about opening the house to guests it has been in the main a real joy to share the place, seems a shame to leave it locked up for long periods even though we visit as often as possible. We normally make a few improvements/decorate out of season and had considered replacing the Jacuzzi bath this year. I am glad you enjoyed that as I personally would be sorry to make the change to a walk-in shower, as there is one on the top floor, and you have now added support to my preference! I look forward to hearing from you in the future. Kind regards, Jacci

Charming house

  • 5 of 5

Charming house opposite the basilica and a pretty park. Very quiet, well maintained inside. Warm welcome from the owners and their rep. Very central for walking in Dinan, and a nearby garage for parking. Note however that there are two rather steep internal staircases, could be a problem for some. Also the addition of a microwave and a washing machine would be a big plus. But overall a fine choice and we would stay here again.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your comments, and we are pleased you enjoyed your stay in Dinan. We have installed a handrail recently to assist with the small flight from the mezzanine to the first floor which did not have one but I agree the stairs are not ideal for anyone with mobility problems. My Mother, who is 85 and not sporty, manages perfectly however and insists on using the top bedroom - to enjoy the views. We have also by coincidence recently purchased a basic microwave and although this takes up an amount of surface space in the kitchen area it seems a sensible addition. There are no plans to include a washing machine, we do have laundry facilities in the town, but if required Sean may be able to help with a load during a fortnight stay for future guests if they are interested I can ask.
