Beautiful home in a delightful setting.

What a lovely property, full of charm and character with a very personal stamp on its Japanese theme which adds to its appeal. We spent a wonderful two weeks in Aubais. Four adults and three children enjoying days by the pool, on the beach or exploring the Camargue. Evenings were spent cooking on the BBQ and plancha or relaxing in the fabulous tapas bar with its extensive wine list just at the end of the road. The property is delightfully 'remote' which suited our needs but meant cars were a must to get out and explore or shop. The runners amongst us enjoyed morning exercise around the local trails and roads and bikes were provided for a ride out as required. Mindful of the Camargues reputation for mosquitoes we came armed with a variety of sprays and devices to keep them at bay, but some amongst us still suffered despite our best efforts. This minor irritation was certainly not enough to deflect from enjoying the holiday and the local pharmacy provided a 'magic' cream to ease the symptoms. The cleaner, pool man and gardener were all attentive and helpful and Suzi the owner was just fantastic with a couple if very minor issues we had. All in all a wonderful trip which we all wished would continue. Back home in wet cold UK just serves to heighten what we are missing. I have already recommended the property to a good friend and would certainly consider a return visit in the future.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your positive review! Good thinking on coming supplied with mosquito spray since our region had unusual amounts of rain this year and as a result a lot more mosquitos than we are used to. Situations like this makes us thankful to have a pharmacy right in our little village. Glad that you were able to discover the wine bar/tapas place down the road, the owner is very nice French/English gentleman who makes his own wine with his vinyards in Aubais. We're delighted that you and your party enjoyed your holiday and were able to make happy summer memories with your families.

beautiful backcountry oasis

  • 5 of 5

The very friendly and complete handover of the property by the owner Suzan, made immediatley clear, what a wonderful and carefully designed house we had rented. The House, the furniture, the garden , the pool, the whole property is in best shape and equipped with nice literature (if you have a weakness for architecuture, design and fashion books, you have plenty to read for your complete stay!). If you are into mountainbiking, a wonderful net of single trails starts basically right behind the house. Nimes and Montpellier are close enough for short visits and full of interesting sightseeing, shops and restaurants. There would be much more positive to say, all in all a definite recommendation!

We spent a wonderful two weeks in this beautiful house. The location is great, on the edge of Aubais which is a pretty little village with a boulangerie and lovely restaurant. We were lucky enough to be there when there were local bull festivals taking place which were wonderful to see. It is also very close to Nimes and Montpellier both of which we really enjoyed visiting several times.

The house is spacious and extremely tastefully decorated with lovely art and artefacts. It is very obviously a home rather than a holiday rental and we felt very privileged to share it. The garden, with the koi ponds, two outside tables, plancha and BBQ was naturally well used and enjoyed over our stay.

There are numerous cycle tracks and walkways in the area and the owners have several bikes available for guests' use.

The pool was obviously the main attraction for the children in the party who spent many happy hours jumping in! It is well maintained and regularly cleaned. It is also heated I believe so that even on overcast days was tempting!

I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this property. It is without doubt one of the most stunning properties we have ever stayed in. We also felt that there was so much more we would like to explore in the area on another occasion and will definitely return to do so.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your excellent review! We are delighted that your families enjoyed their summer holiday in our home. We're glad that we made the decision to add the pool heater this year and that you were able to take advantage of the pool in spite of the overcast weather! Nice that you could experience the village festivities as well - typical in our region. This is a yearly event in Aubais around mid-August.

A Peaceful 3 week holiday with friends.

  • 4 of 5

Prior to our arrival the owner kept good contact and could not do enough to prepare for our arrival. All was as we had expected and everyone felt 'at home' in the surroundings. The gardens and pool were a big hit with everyone, as were the bicycles. There are excellent cycle paths in the area, good quality bicycles provided and once we obtained maps we were away. All in all we had a lovely stay and all of our gusts were delighted with their holiday.

As always there were a couple minor issues, which may sound silly but as the owner is always looking to improve things they are worth a mention. The toilet arrangements for 8 are a little limited. The slate worktop marked very easily and we were so concerned about this that we did all of our food preparation outside. As I said, minor issues. We had a great time. Thank you Suzi.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. Glad to hear that you and your guests enjoyed the gardens and pool. Just before the summer holiday we redid the wooden decking around the pool area as well as the roof thatch of our pool gazebo. We particularly love the gardens and with the warm weather am sure that you and your guests were able to get the most out of it. Concerning the minor issues that you brought up, unfortunately there is not much we can do about adding a third toilet as we live in a protected zone and we are not allowed to build onto the existing house. Fortunately most of our rentals are to families, this is the first time that we rented to someone who was receiving many different guests during their stay. Concerning the slate kitchen counter top, we live year round in the house and as with other natural materials care should be taken while using, however it can take normal use and you do not need to prepare food outdoors. All preparations should be done on the large cutting boards provided and not directly onto the counter and if acid (lemons, grapefruit, etc.) happens to fall onto it, to wipe it up quickly with a sudsy sponge. Light marks from normal wear and tear eventually fade with time and cleaning.

Spacious and nicely designed property

  • 5 of 5

Very nicely done and tastefully designed property. Plenty of room for a large family. Very well equipped - allows cooking aficionados to really delve into the Mediterranean cuisine indoors and outdoors with a fully equipped large kitchen, a great and practical plancha, and a large barbecue. Availability of high-speed internet with telephone and laptop is very helpful. Owners take extraordinary care of their guests and make one feel welcome. Large garden with a nice pool. Located on the outskirts of the small village of Aubais (which has no special appeal) - great for excursions to Sommieres, Montpellier, Nimes, Camargue and the Cevennes. Great 24 km biketrail (former railroad line) only 2 kms away, canoeing, hiking within short distance.

Description on website was very accurate, property was clean and well maintained. Smaller problems were immediately taken care of.
