A great stay
We had heard so much praise of Croatia that one fine day we decided to take a look for ourselves. We were joined by another family and granny so all in all we were 4 adults and 5 children between 8 and 14. Villa Jela is situated optimally between the city of Split and the idyllic town of Trogir. The airport is only a 15-minute drive away. Although public transport is easily accessible from the villa and we did use the bus on numerous occasions on our traveling to Split or Trogir, we also had one rental car at our disposal (later on two) and we found it irreplaceable for e.g. to go shopping to the nearby Lidl and Konzum -markets. At a walking distance, there is a Ribola minimarket which we found had a good all-round selection for everyday grocery shopping. Based on the pictures posted on the homeaway -site you might get the impression that the villa is in an area surrounded by more similar type buildings and gardens but in fact, it is somewhat of an island bordered by low apartment buildings to the south and west with a construction site to the north. Not much noise or commotion from the site, mind you, but let it be said that if you are looking for spacious suburbia or a retreat in a tranquil ambience, well, this is not it. Instead, Villa Jela is smack in the middle of Croatian relaxed bustle of everyday life and friendly people - just as we had hoped. A man with freshly baked bread, pastries, and yoghurt curved by the gate with his car every morning and after a hearty breakfast we'd just disembark the villa for the beach, another town, to the mountains, shopping, boating excursions, etc. Sometimes a puppy would come out from one of the houses and "escort" us on our way to the bus stop. Great! (On a side note; if you're looking for a boat trip to the nearby islands we recommend taking a boat from Trogir. They have a host of different options, boats, and companies.) The villa itself is meticulously maintained and well equipped. All is clean and tidy and in perfect working order. So we took a day here and there just to be at the villa, make our own meals and relax by the pool. Very enjoyable indeed! From our ten-day experience, we can say that Villa Jela is very well suited for family vacations and a great base for family excursions to the nearby towns and cities by bus or train, and further on to the mountains and other tourist attractions by car. Our host was very friendly and courteous and promptly answered whatever questions we had. Hvala!

A spacious, modern villa with excellent hosts. Hire a car though!
Four adults and five children stayed in this lovely villa for 10 days in August 2018. For ease of reading I will summarise the positives and things to consider below: OWNERS: The owner and his wife were extremely helpful before arrival and during our stay. if there were any issues or queries I could contact the owner and he always replied within half an hour. On one occasion there was an issue with the door lock at 11pm and he came straight out to the villa to sort the problem. On our penultimate day he and his wife brought us the most delicious meal for our whole family ; it was the Croatian dish Peka which was amazing and a very kind gesture. THE VILLA The villa is modern, clean and very well equipped for a long stay. The pool is a good size and there were two seating areas, including a large table for families to eat around. There is also a small grass area. The villa is attached to the owner's other business which seems to be a builders' merchants and whilst I thought this would be noisy when I first saw it, it actually didn't cause any issues. I heard the odd machine reversing but this was limited and hardly noticeable. The villa is split into two apartments; one upstairs and one downstairs which was very handy as we were two families sharing the villa. It was nicely decorated and spacious inside. LOCATION: The villa is around 15 minutes drive from the airport and 30 minutes drive into Split which was lovely to visit but complicated to drive into for tourists. Please be aware that the villa is in a residential area and siesta time is 2-5pm and so you will be expected to make no noise between these times as the locals came to complain to us that the children were being too noisy. We got around this by taking them to the local beach which is a ten minute walk downhill during the siesta period. There is only one cafe/ beach bar at the local beach and one very good restaurant in Kastel Gomillica called Angelos which served delicious pizza, pasta, steaks etc. I wouldn't bother with any other restaurants in the immediate area but there are good ones in Kastel Stari which is 2km away and is a bigger resort with plenty shops, bars and restaurants. RENT A CAR I would definitely recommend this villa but you would need to hire a car. There is a Lidl 2 km along the road and lots of places to visit like Kastel Stari, Trogir and Krka National Park 1 hour away which was amazing. I would definitely come to this region again.

Good accommodation, clean and lovely pool.
Location is a little out of the way, it’s a 15 minute walk to Kastella on some dubious paths. You have to cross a train track and walk on rough ground. Outside photos are a little misleading, the pool area is next door to a builders merchants, in general this isn’t a problem as they are quiet but there are no views to admire apart from a glimpse of a sea view from the upstairs balcony. At the end of the pool area is a large block of concrete flats which again wasn’t a problem but not the best outlook. Pool area did have a problem with wasps and other flying insects, one of the children was stung 4 times by wasps and they also seemed to like entering the water so you have to be careful of that with young children. There are cats next door in the builders merchant who continually enter the garden, they are not easily moved on either and did become a bit of a nuisance especially when BBQing. Overall the Villa offers very good clean and versatile accommodation, Kastella is very quiet but has a lovely beach with a bar and a nice restaurant in Angolo’s which does reasonably priced nice food. A car is a must here and we had several good trips with it. Croatia is a beautiful country and we will definitely be back but maybe not to this particular villa or resort next time.
