About the property

Coastal path, beach, village shop and local pubs - perfect for walkers and dogs

Brynhenllan Cottage is a traditional stone Pembrokshire cottage situated in the Pembrokeshire National Park close to the sea and local beaches. The cottage is small but has a comfortable, spacious sitting room with an real open fire at one end and a wood burning stove at the other. A glazed extension to the rear opens onto a sunny courtyard, which has a chimenea and barbecue. The cottage overlooks the village green and is fronted by a pretty, lavender filled, cottage garden. The cottage is comfortably and tastefully furnished and very well equipped. Free wireless broadband, books and an extensive CD collection. Please note there is a small TV but no DVD player.

There are two bedrooms, one double and one walk through twin Tall people beware the bedrooms are in the eves of the cottage so headroom is limited. The ground floor is not on one level and has shallow stone steps between the sitting room kitchen and shower room as well as a small step up to the dining room/sunroom.

In a superb location with local, family friendly beaches only minutes away and the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path on your doorstep, with atmospheric local pubs and fine restaurants in nearby Newport.

Brynhenllan is a traditional welsh stone cottage by the sea, furnished with every attention to detail. After years of looking for the perfect holiday cottage to rent that was close to the beach and in walking distance of a good pub and shop we gave up and bought our own. Brynhenllan Cottage is our much loved family holiday home and we would like to share it with you.

In the cottage we have endeavoured to include all the elements that we found it hard to find in rental properties, such as open log fire, proper mattresses, 100% cotton and linen bedding, soft fluffy towels, beach towels, BBQ and outdoor fireplace, games, extensive music and free internet access. We keep the cottage well stocked with essentials so you don't have to bring the kitchen sink. You might find a cheaper cottage but you would be hard pressed to find a more comfortable and welcoming one.

The cottage would suit a couple or young family and we are happy to welcome well behaved dogs, in fact with its close access to the costal path and outdoor hose-pipe! Brynhenllan Cottage is a dog walkers paradise. Although we are dog friendly. If you are not a dog lover rest assured that we pride ourselves that the cottage is fresh and clean for each and every visitor.

We like to cook and although the kitchen is small it is a delight it is flooded with light and you can see the sea, just! It has everything you could need. We have recently installed an induction hob and a new ceramic sink.

The village of Dinas Cross and the hamlet of Brynhenllan are peaceful places and the only sound you will hear in the morning is the fishermen on their way down to the beach to check their lobster pots. It's worth mentioning that the lobster at the Old Sailors is as fresh as it gets.

The beaches in Wales are endless, varied and relatively empty. North Pembrokshire is a world away from the busy touristy areas in the south with its spectacular craggy shore overlooked by the Preseli Hills it is a beautiful area steeped in history and with a vibrant local rural economy. Farmers markets abound and there are artists and craft makers everywhere.

The Cottage is equally lovely in every season, in-fact the best weather is often to be had in spring and autumn. As well as the nearby beaches and fabulous walking on the Pembrokshire National Park costal path on your doorstep there is local riding stable close by. My top tip is to take a welsh pony for a trek up Dinas Mountain (not really a mountain more a big hill) let the horse take the strain and enjoy the view. It is an experience that will stay with you, I promise. We liked it so much we bought the horse!

We are very grateful for all the lovely reviews we get, if you have time to read them they will give you a flavour of what it is like to stay at Brynhenllan cottage.

I look forward to hearing from you and we hope to welcome you to our special place.

About Sally Wigney

We are are a family of three, plus a cat, who thinks she is a dog, and a pony, who lives in Pembrokeshire. We live in West London and have done since we left university, many years ago! Both Duncan and I grew up in rural Herefordshire, but our careers tie us to the city and Brynhenllan Cottage is our escape!

Sally Wigney purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Sally Wigney chose Dinas Cross

We fell in love with the cottage after renting the house opposite and spending the week looking at it with a for sale sign outside. We thought the location was the best we had ever rented a holiday cottage in - and believe me we had rented a few! It was a mad and spontaneous leap of faith at the end of a weeks holiday but one we have not regretted for a single minute.

What makes this cottage unique

Off season is the time I prefer at the cottage. The weather is often calmer than in summer months and the countryside is just as beautiful, actually more beautiful. In the winter the colours of the bracken, gorse and heather come alive. But don’t be fooled by the blue blue sea, its icy cold! As the summer fades the locals claim their place back from the tourists and the whole place settles down and relaxes. When the dark winter days days are behind us the welsh daffodils strewn liberally across the countryside are a joy and spring lambs bouncing through the fields bring the whole place back to life.

Long walks along the cost path, beaches all to yourself and a cosy cottage to come back too.

Lovely cottage, cosy & clean. Comfortable beds & all amenities. Also lots included in price, tea towels, bath towels etc. Lovely bottle of wine on arrival. Really special little extras make this a truly perfect holiday cottage. Quite small upstairs but plenty of room downstairs. Sally, the owner is lovely & very thoughtful. Would highly recommend this beautiful cottage. Great location too.

Delightful and perfect stay!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at Brynhellan cottage, the location was perfect and the cottage was delightful , superbly equipped to a high standard with everything you could need and more. A great deal of thought and love had been put into making this ape react holiday home. Sally, the owner was great, and checked with us via email that everything had been ok. I would highly recommend this cottage and hope to return next year.

Great little characterful Pembrokeshire cottage

  • 4 of 5

A very well appointed charming cottage. It looked gorgeous from the outside and we weren't disappointed by the inside either. We were able to park in the spot right outside very easily. When you enter the cottage there is a smell of woodsmoke which was very evocative of my childhood and there's a wood burner and an open fire which we didn't need to use (thankfully as it was August!) in the Living Room. There were 2 very comfortable sofas and an amazing cd collection ranging from classical to Goldie Looking Chain (look them up). The sun room is also the dinning space and is such a lovely warm room. The kitchen is well appointed and the shower is powerful enough. The 2 bedrooms are very pretty, although towards the end of the week I was feeling a bit hunched accessing the double bed as the bedrooms are in the eves. On the day we left we realised that our daughter had left some things behind and Sally the owner posted them on to us which was great. We haven't spent any time in North Pembrokeshire before, preferring to be around the Tenby area but it couldn't be more different and completely unspoilt. The coastline is amazing and the little town of Newport is lovely. Try the Golden Lion where dogs are welcome and the food is great. This was our first holiday with our dog and we would certainly recommend this property.

Brynhenllan cottage is very charming, comfortable and well equipped. The cottage, is a semi detached building and completely private. There are no views from the cottage or village but the close proximity to the coastal path makes up for this. Information about the coastal walks are available in the cottage along with other information about the area. The scenery is even more spectacular than the website images.
