4/5 bedrooms, 9/11 beds, trad kitchen, 30ft conservatory, and barn room
A beautifully restored traditional farmhouse down a private track in 3 acres of its own gardens, woods and river. Complete tranquility yet only c3 miles from the bustling market town of Skibbereen. At the heart of the property is a 500 year old farmhouse which has been extended in recent years into a wonderful 4 bedroom house. One of the barns has just been converted to a big family room available additionally with 2 more beds and a shower room. The house has character & style, thick walls and traditional features with high quality modern fixtures and furnishings. Outside, the property has beautiful woods and garden, it also has a trampoline, table tennis table and 70 meters of frontage onto the River Illen (Salmon fishing in season).
If you are looking for peace, tranquility, back to nature combined with modern fittings and comforts, The River House is perfect
It's also great for families sharing ,with 2 bedrooms & bathroom at each end of the house, plus potential to add the barn.

We had the best week in your beautiful home. We felt so relaxed it was great, in fact I felt that I was borrowing someone's private house instead of a holiday rent. You have fantastic taste and style. We loved everything about it and felt very sad to leave on the Saturday.
The weather did not hold for us, we had 4 out of 7 good days. but when it rained we played games, watched DVDs from your extensive library. There was enough space for all the family, the older members sat in the conservatory reading while the kids played in the barn.
Thank you again for letting us use your amazing house. We would love to book next year again if possible.

Heaven on Earth!
We spent one week at River House returning to the area where we had owned a house for many years when our children were growing up and in fact still own some land. The house was more than I imagined it would be. Although old in years, it had all the modern amenities that one could ask for and was well stocked with everything….just like home. It was peaceful, out in the country but just what was needed for unwinding and recharging of the batteries. I would highly recommend it to anyone whether it is for a family reunion/vacation or a get-away for a couple. You are connected with the outside world and yet, removed from the craziness of our world today. We hope to return with our children and grandchildren (we wanted to try it out first) but whether that happens, we definitely return for another week in "heaven on earth".

A charming cottage with plenty of internal and external space which is well maintained and stocked with plenty of household necessities, games and beautiful views across meadows and a sparkling river. It is delightful to adults and children as there are sculptures to admire and amuse, trees to climb and swing in, and peaceful walks to take.
Another wonderful holiday at the River House
Dear Coleen and Charlie
I just want to express my thanks again for allowing us to stay once more in your beautiful house in Skibbereen.
It really is a special place. This is our third summer in your wonderful farmhouse and each year as the children are getting older, we enjoy it more and more.
We had another fabulous fortnight unwinding in the peace and tranquility of the River House.
My parents are from Mayo but I think they are transferring their loyalties to West Cork after their second visit. Fantastic food, weather and a beautiful house - what more could you need.
Thank you again.

PS : The nespresso machine was a great addition - made the mornings a lot easier...:)
A fantastic hideaway for quality family time in an idyllic setting
We were thrilled to find the property as charming as it appeared in all the photos. Our boys had plenty of room to explore and tons of scope for adventure. We found everything we needed and more within the house and had a very comfortable week. Highly recommended!
The cottage was really lovely just the right setting for a family reunion. Had everything that we needed. Would book it again in a heartbeat.
Authentic Irish experience with modern appliances
I have been coming to Ireland since I was seven years old, visiting extended family and friends. Usually we stayed with family or at various B&Bs. During all of those years the best experience was when my parents rented a wonderful manor house on a very large farm for July and August. We were lucky enough to be allowed to herd the cows to the river and help with the milking...a dream come true for a young girl growing up in the suburbs of Boston (USA). Since that time, the only place that comes close to that genuine experience is River House. Hidden at the end of a narrow and winding boreen, behind two gates, is a peaceful and lovely oasis of calm. The roof is slate tiles, the walls are plaster over stone, floors are stone or concrete or wood. Everything in this old farmhouse is as it should be with the addition of artful, creative touches and heat and hot water and bathrooms that work! The dining space accomodates large numbers of friends and family with a gorgeous view of the outside gardens and a wood burning stove. On cool or damp days this is a welcome luxury. It is so lovely to see that the owners have not changed too much of the heart and soul of the place in their quest for comfort. Bravo Coleen and Charlie! I am forgetting to mention the delightful surprises of little stained glass windows and beautiful artwork and a FABULOUS kitchen.....oooh and the river is otherworldly, like my vision of Narnia. If you are considering this place, you must try it! I hope to be back.....
Activity and Interests
West Cork is a magical place. We are 3 miles outside Skibbereen a bustling market town which has traditional bars, a range of restaurants and pretty much all the shops you could want. There is also an indoor sports centre with sauna, gym, indoor football pitches as well as outside tennis courts etc. There is also an 18 hole golf course c 1 mile outside Skibbereen.
Also near by is Baltimore , a lovely fishing village and sailing centre from which you can get the ferry to Shirkin Island and Cape Clear (Gaelic speaking).
Lough Hyne , the deepest salt water lake and nature reserve in Europe is about 3 miles away and has a great walk up the hill behind giving fantastic views across the islands out to the Fastnet light. Bantry and Clonakilty both have cinemas. Ballydehob has great restaurants. There is also 'Island Cottage' on Hare Island, which is a short ferry ride. Beaches, bars, walking, swimming, traditional music sessions, sailing, fishing ..it is all here
Other Activities: Skibbereen is a bustling market town with shops, traditional bars and restaurants, Ballydehob, Baltimore and Bantry are all within a short drive

- This is very much our Irish family home and we hope you find a really welcoming feel. We have books, games, CDs, DVDs etc. We also have a dolls house and various toys for the younger ones. The furnishing, fixtures and fittings are of good quality with many original and unique features. There are open fires and wood burning stoves (as well as central heating) and plenty of wood available in the woodshed. Outside the garden and woods are great to explore, there is a huge trampoline, table tennis and benches and seating dotted about the place. Getting to the house involves driving down our bumpy lane and opening/closing a couple of gates which our children always compete to do. We have a dog who comes with us to the house, however, he is never allowed upstairs or on any furniture. If you want to bring a pet then subject to the same rules this will probably be OK. The barn conversion is a new addition and is available for use by people letting the house for a small supplement
