Very peaceful rural location, 30 miles from the Mediterranean

Can Llouquette is recently renovated and set in 11 acres of forest and garden with it's own stream. It has a large pool, a mature garden, vegetable garden, fields, a stream with picnic tables, hammocks and BBQs.

We are in the Eastern Pyrenees, in the most southerly valley in France. It is an area of outstanding natural beauty only thirty miles from the Mediterranean at the start of the Pyrenean mountain range. We are only minutes from Spain and can be reached from Girona or Barcelona, as well as Perpignan airports.

What makes Can Llouquette extra special is that it is set in its own little valley. It is extremely private with no neighbours and has acres of meadows, forest and stream for you to enjoy. Yet the local bakery, cafe and restaurant is only 5 minutes away and market towns are only a quarter of any hour away.

We have four restored holiday cottages for rental: La Bergerie (for four people), Le Pommier (for two people), El Casot (for two people) and L'Atelier (for four to six people).

La Bergerie is approximately 80 sq m, and has two bedrooms (one double, one twin) each with a private bath and toilet, its own kitchen, lounge and terrace. It is suitable for couples or a family of four with one small child.

It also has its own private terrace with an easterly aspect (towards Spain), equipped with garden furniture and is perfect for enjoying outdoor meals or simply relaxing listening to the stream.

For additional room the Le Pommier has one bedroom (a double) with a private bathroom, lounge and kitchen as well as its own terrace, Le Pommier sleeps two. There is also L'Atelier which accommodates 4-6 people in two bedrooms.

We have found that extended families love this arrangement of separate properties, as it means intimacy and privacy with the ability to withdraw to one's own space when required.

mountain hideaway offering great walks/excursions

Can Louquette lived up to our best expectations. The description was correct in every detail, but the reality was even better! We shared our holiday with old friends from New Zealand, and even if we had never ventured further than the front gate, the property and and the swimming pool in themselves made a perfect place in which to eat, drink and talk, whilst enjoying the surrounding mountains, the wildlife, and the great welcome and hospitality offered by Simon and Ashley.The accommodation was spotless and beautifully furnished and equipped, down to the last detail. The swimming pool was just perfect. A large supply of maps and brochures gave us endless ideas for excursions, both local and further afield. Walks, as all over France, are always clearly marked and well main tained.

We particularly appreciated the genuinely friendly welcome in the nearby village bar and restaurant at Montferrer. Further afield we explored several local towns and villages, and sampled a large number of good restaurants and bars. For amazingly good value and a genuinely local eating experience, the restaurant on the main road at le Tech was hard to beat. A day across the mountains in Spain, wandering round the Sunday market in Camprodon, offered further new perspectives and change of scene. Nearby Gorges de la Fou provides a testing but rewarding climb through a spectacular rocky gorge. Especially recommended is the town of Ceret with very good art galleries, and the nearby Prats de Mollo for its history and a pedestrianised town centre.

Can Llouquette suited us - four reasonably fit adults -perfectly, and we would very happily recommend it to similar people. We felt it might not be so easy for less able-bodied people, or those with very small children. For teenage children, we were not aware of much that would appeal to that age-group. A car is essential for all but the totally sedentary.

The owners gave us impeccable service, they made suggestions for activities, and made us very welcome into their own home and family. We were free to wander through their estate, usually followed by the inquisitive resident donkey! We were particularly impressed by their ecological commitment, care for the environment, and their passion to share their enthusiasm for this beautiful part of France.

A wee Gem in the Pyrenees

My family had a lovely, relaxing week at Can Llouquette : it is a great place to unwind. It is in a valley surrounded by forests and mountains, and is very peaceful - the birdsong all around is a highlight. The fact that it is up in the mountains means that you get warm days - and cool nights, so you can sleep comfortably.

There were nice walks to explore around the property and many wonderful places to visit within a short car ride. Simon and Ashley are attentive and helpful as hosts.

Well worth a visit. We will return !!

Stunning piece of paradise

This is not a place to stay if you like noise and the hustle and bustle of city life. It is an absolutely beautiful setting in a dip towards the very top of the hills. The house is perfect and there are so many hidden gems in the gardens. Simon delivered fresh eggs to us in the morning and always discreetly in his own part of the house. What a stunning setting for a swimming pool

If you're looking for the perfect combination of peace, tranquility, and natural beauty - Can Llouquette is your place. Settled in a gorgeous valley, we were able to fully relax and enjoy quality time. The property itself is stunning, with tons of space & beautiful scenery. We could not have asked for better weather, and so the pool was put to good use! Simon was a wonderful and attentive host - his insight into the region was greatly appreciated! Perfect week away from it all in the Pyrenees

We had a wonderful week with our young family in La Bergerie, so much so that none of us wanted to leave. Can Lloquette is a haven of tranquillity and just the place to unwind from the hectic pace of life. The view out over the canopy accompanied by the sound of the brook and the birds was idyllic. Beautifully converted and furnished in an understated and tasteful way the site includes hammocks near the stream, a place to barbecue for an early evening dinner ‘en plein air’ and a gorgeous child-friendly pool, offering all the ingredients for a perfect family retreat. A cheeky chicken with a penchant for escape provided our son with much amusement and Ashley, Simon and Sophia were consummate hosts. It came as no surprise that some of our fellow guests came to stay every year and it gets an unreserved recommendation from us.

Eine Oase in der Natur jenseits der Touristenpfade

Can Lloquette ist eine Oase der Ruhe. Morgens mit Vogelgezwitscher aufwachen, das Rauschen des Baches hören und den Blick in die Natur von der Terrasse genießen. Die Eigentümer haben ein kleines Paradies geschaffen und mit ihrer Gastfreundschaft fühlt man sich herzlich willkommen. Die Wohnung war gemütlich eingerichtet und die Küche hatte eine sehr gute Ausstattung. Den Swimmingpool hatten wir die meiste Zeit für uns allein, da sich die Gäste über den Tag verteilten. Unser Lieblingsplatz waren die Hängematten am Bach! In der Umgebung ist viel zu unternehmen: kleine Dörfer ohne Touristen, Kurztrips nach Spanien oder an die Küste, Wanderungen, Märkte, Besuch von Käsereien etc . Aber nach allen Touren waren wir glücklich, wieder an diesen friedlichen Ort zurück zu kommen.

We searched for years for a property with land and a river with several outbuildings. After two years of circumnavigating Canigou on the French / Spanish border we found this place and fell in love. It is tucked away in its own valley, and feels safe and secluded.

We are in the Vallespir Valley of the Pyrénées Orientales, on the outskirts of the village of Montferrer. This is the southern-most region in France and the sunniest, averaging over 300 days per year.

At the heart of the region is Mount Canigou dominating the horizon from almost every vantage point.

The planes undulate with vineyards laid out before the impressive mountains. The higher valleys are covered with oak, ash, beech and chestnut. The views are exceptional, the roads ‘untroubled’, and the weather very agreeable.

There are no properties overlooking us, no busy roads, no light pollution, just perfect peace. The nearest market town is Prats de Mollo at 15mins.

The nearby French and Spanish Mediterranean coast has many long beaches and secluded coves: Argeles, Collioure, Roses and Cadaques.

Perpignan at 1hr is the capital and other famous cities and market towns within reach include: Ceret, Figueras, Carcassone, Montpellier, Girona, Besalu and Camprodon.

Other Activities: Cuisine, wine tasting, sight seeing, Spain, Vallespir Rally, spas, watersports.

Golf: There are some outstanding courses not far from the house. The two closest courses are Domaine de Falgos and Camprodon (over the border in Spain).

The closest of the two is the stunning 18-hole course at Domaine de Falgos.

Established in 1991, it is a Par 70 of 5044 mt, where you'll also enjoy an exceptional panorama: the snows of Canigou and blue of the Mediterranean.

The Camprodon Golf Club boasts a 9-hole course located in the beautiful natural surroundings of the Camprodon Valley.

The club has made the most of the natural course of the River Tortell which cuts across many of the holes: meaning that skill, strategy and focus are required.

We charge a cleaning fee amounting to 70 Euros for the two smaller apartments, 90 for the larger, and 110 Euros when pets have accompanied you. Sheets are 20 Euros a set, towels (a set of hand, bath and pool) are 6 Euros a set. Taxe de sejour (0.33 cents per day per adult) is also paid at the end of the stay.

Please note: since 2016 payment through certain websites (HomeAway, FewoDirekt, Homelidays etc) have started taking service fees on top of card transaction fees off your payment to us for your holiday. Even though we pay substantial marketing subscriptions to all of them bar Airbnb (which is wholly commission based). You always have the opportunity to pay us directly to save such transaction fees, so in such instances where you have chosen to pay via the third party (which we have no issue with) we will however ask that the holiday rental fee is fully honoured, to cover this additional new expense to ourselves.

You can see the stars at night and listen to owls. There is no light pollution, no noise from roads and no neighbours. Listening to the stream, birds and butterflies it was hard not to fall in love with the tranquility of the place. And the air quality is wonderful, it is a joy to breathe the night-time air!
