Large Custom Guest House On Hill Top Estate In Bonsall

The guest house is ideal for a relaxed retreat from everyday life. Located only 15 minutes from major cities, this 15 acre estate offers a level of peace and serenity that is hard to find while still being close enough to everything to enjoy live entertainment, exquisite meals, challenging golf course, ocean beaches, world class family resorts, major casinos, and award winning wines.

Situated slightly lower on the property than the main house, it offers a private and undisturbed sanctuary for your time away from home. The large bedroom is located at the edge of the hill and presents views of the valleys heading both north to Temecula and west to the ocean. This room is loaded with windows and receives cool evening breezes with the windows open. A full sized stacked washer and dryer is located in the bedroom for your convenience, and there is plenty of storage in the full size dresser and closet.

The other main room of the house contains both the kitchen and the living room, but this space is so large that you will never feel crowded. The kitchen boasts full size appliances (gas range and oven), large refrigerator with ice maker, and miles of counter space (including a butcher block island). There is a comfortable table suitable for four adults to enjoy home cooked meals in the kitchen space, and another 4 person table outside on the patio to enjoy the evening breeze and sunsets while eating on the private patio.

The living room has a love seat and a sleeper sofa (queen), and the smart TV is wirelessly connected to the internet to stream HD content (Netflix and Vudu), access DirecTV, or use the Blu-ray player for your favorite movies. We have a library of movies that can be loaned on request.

There are views from every window/door that are incredible as the property is located on top of the hill at the end of a private road. The driveway is gated and the property is fenced around the immediate house, but there is an additional 4 acres adjacent to the guest house path that is fenced and occupied by our three goats, Donkey, and Llama. The remaining 10 acres is not fenced, but is available for your exploration, and includes a (neglected) lime grove. Most of the land is rugged and covered with original chaparral growth, boulders, and wildlife, but does offer the most impressive views in all of Bonsall and has a maintained dirt road for ease of access.

My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay at this property it was the type of place we needed for a long stay and was pretty much centrally located to everything we wanted to do and see. My only criticism would be on the cleanliness of the guest house, it was definitely not up to our standards. However bear in mind that my wife and I are very particular when it comes to cleanliness. Our overall impression was that it is a great place with wonderful owners, but would benefit from a deep clean and a fresh coat of paint on the interior, it would look like a million bucks! We would and may stay at this property again. We stayed at the property for 6 consecutive weeks.

This is the second time we stayed here and will absolutely be back again. The property is beautiful and exactly as pictured- rural but less than 10 minutes to the I-15 freeway, so convenient to everything. The hosts are super nice people and easy to work with. We love everything about this property.

The view of a lifetime
The cozy guesthouse is comfortable and quite private from the adjacent main house. Our small dog enjoyed looking at the llama, donkey, and three goats who were on their side of the fence. And the view to the west and the north is spectacular! A great getaway!

We are currently blessed with 4 children ages 4, twins at 7, and 11 (as of 2023). We are excited to be sharing our property with guests because we enjoy sharing our small piece of serenity with those seeking the same.

Why they chose this property

Bonsall, located in North San Diego County, is the ideal place to raise a family with exceptional schools and large estate-like properties that offer abundant open space and natural landscapes. We also wanted to find a home that was unique in character and offered impressive views. This house exceeds those requirements and also came with existing additional dwelling units that could be rented.

We also enjoy the fact that Bonsall is a very small community (3500 people) but is located within 15 minutes of Escondido, Temecula, Vista, and San Marcos. These adjacent communities provide many of the conveniences of major urban settings, but we get to enjoy them without having to live within the urban environments.

What makes this property unique

The architectural design and the method of construction make this a very customized home. The original owners were also the designers and the builders and they sought to create a multi-generational housing system that was focused on energy efficiency, fire resistant, and maximized the views from each and every space on the property while preserving the privacy for each dwelling unit.

The main house has enough space to comfortably raise our family, the garage has a 2 bedroom apartment that is occupied by a long term tenant, and the guest house is a 1 bedroom apartment that we have set aside for short term occupancy.

In addition to the living structures, the property has 15 acres, of which about 2/3 is readily use-able. Prior to the house being constructed, the land was used as a commercial lime grove and evidence remains of this operation throughout the property. In fact, most of the trees are still surviving but only produce marginal fruit quality because of the limited water offered to the grove. The old grove house foundation can be seen on the far side of the property, but the county required it to be torn down prior to allowing the main house to be built because of septic system designs.

We have also set up an RV site on the property that has been used for rentals and may soon be converted to another vacation rental. It has a generous shade structure, and outdoor kitchen and patio space, and the best peace and quiet on the property as it sits down in the lime grove and is very intimate with nature.
