Annagh Vale - Countryside house nestling at the foot of Annagh Hill

Overview

Property

Updated: 16-Nov-2016
6 bedroom house Wexford/Wicklow border sleeps 14 set on 1.4 acres of gardens

Nestling at the foot of Annagh Hill enjoying splendid views of the surrounding unspoiled countryside. The residence is presented in excellent condition. Located in a picturesque setting in a much sought after area. 10mins drive to the large towns of Gorey or Arklow, 10 min drive to Tinahely, 15 min drive to the Wicklow Way and 5 mins walk from the The Gap Pub. 1hr15min Dublin City Centre. Deceptively Spacious 2,300 Ft2 on c. 1.4 acre site. A small stream runs along the bottom of the garden with Annagh Hill. The surrounding forests offer miles of undisturbed walking with breathtaking views and wildlife. We are 20 min from beautiful unspoiled Sandy Castletown Beach. Dogs are welcome in the property and even horses - local stabling arranged 5 min away. 45 min drive to the lakes in films P.S. I love you and Braveheart. Organic ready cook meals ordered & delivered upon request. 2 Mountain bikes upon request. Prams on request. A large decking area with stunning views. Children's swings.

Fishing:

Annagh Vale near Ballythomas Hill is the ideal base from which to plan an angling holiday. Wild Brown Trout are plentiful in the rivers and lakes of the Wicklow Mountains, along with good seasonal runs of Sea Trout. For the sea angler, Bass, Smooth Hound, Tope, and Grey Mullet to specimen size can be targeted from the local coastline, along with a range of lesser species such as Codling, Flounder, and Mackerel.

Game Angling

The local Aughrim and Avonmore Rivers offer superb Wild Brown Trout fishing, and in their lower reaches the opportunity to catch Sea Trout in season (largest ever caught of 16.lbs on the fly near Arklow in Aug 2011 on Aughrim river). The rivers run off moor land, and in the middle sections flow through beautiful wooded valleys. Two local clubs, the Aughrim and Rathdrum Trout Anglers control the Brown Trout fishing, day tickets are available.

Brown trout average 6 – 8 oz, with fish reaching a pound+. They are free rising and on light tackle give great sport.

Hunting and Riding:

Annagh Vale is right at the heart of the hunting scene in Ireland. With many hunts on the doorstep including the foxhound hunts - the Wicklows, Shillelagh's, The Island and the Wexfords and further afield the Carlow Farmers, the Bree and the Bray's (harriers). Local stabling provided by experienced professional only 2 miles from the property - competitive rates - €100 pw full livery.

For those not looking to hunt there are miles of forest tracks and quiet roads to go hacking in with stunning scenery. There is also a local riding club with cross country course and Olympic size arena as well as the munny trail - a 600 acre estate only 20 min drive,

Walking:

Annagh and Ballythomas Hill are a walkers paradise, with close proximity to the Wicklow Way, it also has it's own less busy walks. Miles of forestry and beach walking, close to Croghan Mountain - a nesting place for birds of prey. Stunning scenery with lots of wildlife including deer and hare, this is not a busy area therefore you can go for miles in total solitude. Annagh hill is featured in our photographs and this is right behind the property, this has a great view from the top across Wicklow and Wexford counties. Hi Martyn,

Just a quick note to say a massive thanks on behalf of my family and I for a fantastic stay in your house over the Christmas period. A shame I never got to meet you in person, but you were very helpful on the phone and via email, and my family also said you were very helpful and flexible, especially on arrival and departure, so many thanks. Pauline and Sean down the local pub were also very friendly.

We really loved the house, especially the large kitchen/dining area which made cooking and enjoying Christmas dinner for 12 very easy. The bedrooms were also massive and provided ample space for all of us. I only wish we could have stayed a bit longer, but unfortunately we had to get back to the UK due to work commitments etc.

In any case, thanks again, and if we celebrate Christmas in Ireland again, we will definitely be in touch.

Kind regards,

Paul

Spacious property but lacking finishing touches

  • 3 of 5

The house is HUGE with plenty of room for large groups & families. The massive dining table is particularly useful for dining together and completing puzzles/playing games. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, plates and cutlery, as well as a good amount of serving dishes. The garden is generous and great for kids play. My biggest gripe was the quality of the mattresses, which seemed consistently cheap, flimsy and certainly were not conducive to a good night's sleep. In addition bath and pedestal matts were old and need replacing. Towels, too, could have been fresher. Annagh Vale was good value for money and if these details could be ironed out, the place would be five stars.

Excellent all round property

  • 5 of 5

Wow what a house. There were 11 adults and 2 children, this house provided lots of space and cleanliness. Situated in an idyllic spot at the foot of the hills with plenty of off road walking but within an hours drive to Dublin, 20 minutes to a beautiful beach and 15 minutes to Gorey town which we fell in love with with its quaint shops.

Local people so friendly, even down to the local pub owners!

Would recommend this property to friends and hopefully return again in a couple of years time.

Martyn & Grace the owners are such friendly helpful people. We loved your property!!

Beautiful Home

  • 5 of 5

"Very beautiful home well appointed, near the mountains of Wicklow and Dublin, we spent a pleasant stay, a friendly pub "The Gap" is located at 200 meters. However a vehicle is essential, the small town of Gorey is 9 kilometers and you will find any trade as well as a supermarket and pubs. The welcome from the owners is good, the house is clean and well kept, we would recommend this home. Thanks Martyn, Marc president of Railder's Auvergnats."

Stay at Annagh Vale

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay in a lovely house. The accomodation had everything you needed. We were a group of 13 and we all fitted comfortly. Enough bathrooms, toilets, hot water... Nice big garden and the views are lovely! A lot of interesting places to visit are nearby.
