Overview

About the property

A delightful place to stay in the most peaceful part of the town

This gite sleeps 2 in style, just moments away from all that Gourdon has to offer. The medieval town of Gourdon, close to world famous Rocamadour, is situated in one of the richest historical regions in France, offering the biggest concentration of prehistoric sites in the world. Gourdon is a perfect base to explore the region, which boasts vineyards, châteaux, caves, medieval history, canoeing, golf, horse riding, hot air ballooning and much more.

The nearby boulevard offers shops, restaurants and a Saturday market, making it ideal for those who love to idle away the hours in old winding streets or drinking coffee in pavement cafes. A real opportunity to immerse oneself in French life and rub shoulders with the hospitable Gourdonnais!

Visit petitgite.com for more.

Gourdon is a friendly town with a population of 5000. In summer there is an open-air heated swimming pool. The town also has a 2 screen cinema with some films showing in the original English. As well as the large Saturday market there are additional markets throughout the summer, selling local farm produce and hand-made crafts.

The town hosts several events throughout the year from flea markets to music recitals and medieval reinactments.

It is possible to travel to Gourdon by train. There is bike hire available in the town. There is also a nearby lake where it is possible to swim. Gourdon is surrounded by spectacular countryside and there are some good walks to do. We keep a small cool box, thermos and picnic things at the cottage to help with your days out.

Within an hour radius of Gourdon there are a very large number of places to visit. There are a good deal of medieval bastide towns, châteaux, vineyards, prehistoric sites, caves, gardens and museums. Please visit our website at petitgite.com for more information.

To get here there are 5 possible airports (Brive-Dordogne, Bergerac, Limoges, Toulouse and Rodez) as well as the train (Paris-Toulouse line) so getting here is easy. The town is just 20 minutes west of the main A20 motorway. We would be happy to advise on your travel plans if you let us know where you will be coming from.

A wonderful place to stay in every way

  • 5 of 5

This lovely little Gite is tucked away behind the owners property. It is quiet (silent in fact), private and so wonderfully French. The size of the place was not a problem at all, in fact it is bigger inside than it looks from outside!. Upstairs the bedroom was generous and the bathroom enormous and both had lovely old-fashioned touches. Plenty of room downstairs to cook and relax too, with the owner leaving lots of information about places to visit etc.

We loved Gourdon and it proved to be a good centre for visits around the Dordogne. We enjoyed the town's restaurants and bars too, as well as the historical buildings and lovely narrow streets.

Parking for the Gite looked like it might be an issue as there was a small public car park, but not once did we fail to get a space whatever time we returned from a day out. Would recommend the Gite; comfortable, very well equipped, thoughtful touches (not least the generous Welcome Pack) and a very friendly owner and family. We would love to go back and hope we will at some point.

All as advertised -only better!

  • 5 of 5

Great week in Gourdon. Loved breakfast in the sunny garden, the "quiet" although in the middle of town and much appreciated the "welcome package" provided by our helpful hosts.

Parking was easy even though it was the middle of August and the town was alive with festivals and markets. Great to be able to walk about 50 yards to the terrace of the nearest excellent pizza restaurant!

Medieval retreat Richard the Lionheart knew well

  • 5 of 5

It was a great pleasure to return once again to this comfortable cottage - it's becoming a home from home for me!

Nothing was too much trouble for my hosts - from the welcome pack at my arrival to useful tips about restaurants and places to visit.

La Grange is clean (and warm - it was October) and well-equiped. I didn't do much cooking this time, but the kitchen has pretty much everything you'd need.

Very quiet and peaceful, and yet right in the middle of the old town, you couldn't ask for a better location, with parking, shops and restaurants just minutes away.

I shall continue to recommend this delightful bolt-hole to my friends!

Charming cottage in mediaval town

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week in this elegantly furnished cottage. It is ideally situated in the old town within walking distance of shops and restaurants yet is a quiet and peaceful retreat after the day's activities. The kitchen is well equipped and there

was a generous and intelligently chosen welcome pack on arrival. An additional

bonus was parking five minutes away.

Georgina was welcoming and very helpful during our stay.

Gourdon is a lovely old town ideal for exploring the many interesting attractions in the Lot and Dordogne valleys.

Highly recommended accomodation in very nice area

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the gite during two weeks in July -10. We absolutely adored it.

Perfect accodmodation:

- Great hosts (very nice and helpful)

- A lovely decorated and tasteful gite

- Comfortable living

- A very nice garden in which we enjoyed nice breakfasts, lunches and dinners when we didn't dine at one of Gourdon's restaurants

Beautiful area:

- Gourdon is a very nice little village

- Many other fantastic and pittoresque villages in Lot and Dordogne

We enjoyed activities such as strolling around in the nice villages, canoeing Dordogne, visiting "chateaux", caves and vineyards, playing tennis, picnicking and eating and drinking the good food and wine.

We strongly recommend this place to devoted "bon vivants"!

Gourdon is in the heart of the Lot and near to the Dordogne, offering countless opportunities for exploration. Rocamadour, just 40 minutes' drive away, is one of the must-see gems of this area and deservedly the second most visited religious site in France.

Cahors, the departmental capital that sits on the river Lot, has winding medieval streets and one of the best markets in the region. Downstream, the river is also home to the vineyards that produce the Cahors appellation wines, renowned for their depth and body.

The region has a remarkable number of prehistoric sites, medieval towns, châteaux and gardens, all set in breathtaking scenery.

Gourdon's lido opens June - Sept and the local lake offers swimming and walking. Bike hire is available and there are tennis courts too. 15-30 mins away it is possible to canoe on the Dordogne or to play golf at Souillac or go horse riding.
