2 Bedroom Bungalow, Sleeps 4 ideally situated to explore the Jurassic Coast

Hawkern Cottage is situated on the outskirts of the charming, picture postcard village of Otterton, which is between Sidmouth and Budleigh Salterton. The property enjoys uninterrupted countryside views and is a haven for anyone who enjoys walking. There are numerous coastal and countryside walks which can be reached without having to get in your car. There are also plenty of beaches to explore nearby and Exeter City Centre is only a 30 minute drive.

The cottage comprises of one double bedroom, one twin bedded room, a bathroom, small utility and an open plan kitchen,dining area and sitting room. There are patio doors from the sitting area which open onto a terrace and garden.

The village of Otterton has its own Working Mill which has a restaurant, craft shop and fresh bakery in addition to the local village pub.

Facilities in the Area: Otterton is close by to Woodbury Golf and Country Club which is open to non-members and Exmouth boasts an Indoor Tennis centre which has 6 courts. Bicton Gardens is only a few minutes drive from Hawkern and the Regency town of Sidmouth is a 10 minute drive away.

Otterton is an ideal position because Dartmoor, Torbay, Lyme Regis (great for fossil hunting with the children), Exeter Cathedral Town are all easily accessible which makes plenty of day trips out for the family.

If you simple want a base for walking or relaxing on the beach, again you couldn't ask for a better location.

About Claire Mills

Tony and I have lived at Hawkern House since 2003 having moved from South Devon. We have three children and a lovely dog called Biggles. Fortunately when we bought the property the old stable had been converted into a County Bungalow which is Hawkern Cottage. It has its own private garden and parking area. I enjoy the the cottage being close because I like to meet and help my guests as best I can.

Why Claire Mills chose Otterton

We choose Hawkern because of its peaceful location and wonderlful countyside views and it has the benefit of only being a 10 minute walk to the coastal path. A week in low season is £395, Mid Season £450 with high season being £650. It can also be rented out for a minimum of 2 nights at a cost £125 per night.

Relaxing, friendly, well equipped, highly recommended

we spent a very relaxing week at Hawkern, a perfect location.

It was peaceful, clean and extremely well-equipped, far better than most self-catering cottages we’ve stayed in.

It has a fabulous view and lovely walks.

Claire & Tony were really welcoming and could not have been more helpful & friendly. They were available when we had any questions otherwise Hawkern is extremely private and quiet.

We would definitely recommend staying here.

Mish mash of old furniture and useless shower , garden barren, view obscured overgrown trees

Didn't realise this bungalow was in owners grounds which were beautiful unlike the garden for the bungalow.. not one flower in the dried up tubs! The picture in Owners Direct must be about 10 yrs old as is all the tired odd furniture and curtains. Lots of noisy gardening going on the whole day ... we had to shout to be heard. Then spraying all round our garden whilst we were sat there... not restful. The drive to the property needed cutting back as it made it difficult to get the cars in without getting scratched from tree branches. This place needs a bit of TLC . Sorry to say but have stayed in beautiful holiday rents for the same price. The area is marvellous for walking though and Otterton Mill really tasty food also the pub in village is very good.

Owner's Response: Dear Guest Thank you for your comments and I am sorry that Hawkern Cottage was not to your taste. With regards to the furnishing it is from Laura Ashley and a conscious decision to make a cottage style surrounding. The cottage was decorated in March and the Rattan garden furniture was new this year. Many of my guests are repeat business and the guests following your stay both said how much they loved the cottage and would be returning next year. I appreciate that Hawkern may not appeal to everyone. With regards to the drive we have tried to maintain the privacy of the cottage from the main house but following your comment will trim some branches back. There are Fuchsias and Hydrangeas in the cottage garden but the pot I think you are referring to has daffodils planted in there but following your comment will plant something for all year round. I believe the gardening noise you experienced was in fact from a neighbour who was having a new driveway tarmaced and can only apologise if this disturbed you but it was out of my control. I would like to assure you that it is very important to me that my guests enjoy their stay at Hawkern and I do my utmost to ensure they are satisfied during their stay. Any suggestions are welcome especially whilst staying in the cottage so I can rectify any issues then. Kind Regards Claire Mills.

A fantastic family holiday

Lovely very well equipped cottage with stunning views and lots of wonderful walks. Budleigh beach just a 2-3 mile walk away with beach huts to hire daily overall we had a fantastic holiday and would definitely stay at Hawkern Cottage again .

Very good accommodation and location.

The accommodation was very well equipped, clean, spacious and comfortable. The location is perfect for exploring such a beautiful part of Devon and is a walkers paradise.

Claire was extremely welcoming and pleased to help with any queries. Would definitely recommend this property if you are after a quiet, comfortable and relaxing break.

This is a really nice well equipped holiday home. Private and quiet but very well located for exploring Devon. Welcome pack was very thoughtful. Would we book again?......yes without any doubt. Kids loved it, wanted to move in. Community shop in Otterton caters for your basic needs (its got a good selection of goods) the mill was nice to visit too, Skatepark in Budleigh Salterton a hit with our kids!
