About the Owner

Having lived in France and studied French my whole life, it seemed to be my destiny to live, at least part time, in France. I spend part of the spring and fall in Trôo and the rest of the time in San Francisco, California.

Tranquil and beautiful cottage with real character.

  • 5 of 5

I would recommend Cave Yuccas and Troo to anyone who is looking for tranquility, beauty and historical interest. We were impressed with the whole area as well as the lovely accommodation. Alain who manages the accommodation on site was very helpful. We would love to return. Very dog friendly as well.

Exactly what we were looking for

  • 5 of 5

This was just what we wanted. The property has that cosy feel and within a few steps to the garden you've got a view that just lets your mind drift away from the hustle and bustle back home. The property is clean and well maintained throughout. Troo is a great little place to walk around and to wine and dine. We enjoyed getting in the car and exploring the Chateaux's, wine tours and the markets. A great holiday.

Great place to enjoy

  • 4 of 5

We spent a week on vacation with family and wanted to visit the castles of the Loire area, but it was impossible to resist the charm of the place and to stay there a couple of days just enjoying the village, the quiet, lunch in the small garden with stunning views of the area. Highly recommended.

Another wonderful vacation at Cave-Yuccas

  • 4 of 5

Cave-Yuccas was like coming back to our vacation home. This is our second stay and our third visit to the cottage. Everything you need is there. Loved going over to Blois (l hr. away) and seeing the chateau (art museum is inside) and by all means do not miss the Resistance Museum. Go to tourist office for directions.

Absolutely Wonderful Visit at Cave Yuccas

  • 5 of 5

We just enjoyed an absolutely fabulous visit at Cave Yuccas. It is so peaceful and quiet there. It almost feels like you have stepped back to a simpler time. The view is amazing and hanging out in the hammock with a glass of wine is not to be missed. Everything was clean and in perfect working order. It is great for families (we have 2 children). Alain was available for anything and always with a smiling face. We toured several of the castles in the area. It was wonderful to come "home" to the peace and quiet of Cave Yuccas and enjoy dinner outside with the sunset. I would not hesitate to recommend staying here. In fact, we are planning to return.

Location

From the Owner

I simply became enchanted by Trôo whilst on a romantic vacation with my boyfriend in 2000. It was a combination of the charm of the cave village, the sheer beauty of the views from the property, and the amazing local food and wine. It's been over ten years since, and the enchantment has not yet worn off!

La Cave Yuccas is an exceptional vacation rental in the Loire Valley, France. Located in the troglodyte village of Trôo, the property features a unique cave house and heritage museum with a beautifully restored cottage above the cave. Perched high up on the hillside with full southern exposure, the Cave Yuccas property offers stunning views over the village, river and valley. The origins of the ancient town of Trôo are lost in antiquity, but traces of its importance as a medieval 'city' can be seen today in the heights of the village where remains are visible -- a surrounding fortified wall, dominated by a feudal mound and a splendid roman collegiate church. The hillside, covered with greenery, reaches a height of 129 meters and was carved from rock in various layers, in which caves were dug to form many picturesque habitations. Discover this extraordinary river valley of ancient churches, castles and caves, and relish the delights of the farmers markets, restaurants, and vineyards.

Other Activities: Discover local farmers markets, chateaux, and vineyards, and explore this ancient troglodyte village along the Loir river by foot or bicycle

Facilities

From the Owner

I come every spring and autumn, and there is never a dull moment. Farmers markets, brocantes (village swap meets), chateaux to explore, wine to taste, really, I feel like the best that France has to offer is right here in the Vallée du Loir. But with my incredible views spanning over the valley, I am happy to just stay at home, reading in the hammock or sipping wine with friends on the terrace.

Notes:

  • One of the great things about this property is that it is built into the side of a hill, overlooking the river and valley, with no road in front of the house. As there is no car access to the Cave Yuccas, you must be fit enough to walk on foot paths and climb stairs with your luggage, groceries from the market, bottles of wine, etc. The property is terraced with internal and external stairs on three stories, so small children should be supervised.
