Excellent family property
I can only echo recent reviews. This is a fantastic holiday property comprising two houses side by side and comfortably accommodating 18 in total. The houses are comfortable, well equipped and spacious. The bedrooms are all very smart. Not all rooms have air con in the Manor House but even in August we had no problems as the buildings are solid and cool inside. There was constant hot water so no issues at shower time! The pool area is large with plenty of chairs and sun loungers as well as a good play area for children big and small. Thomas ( and his parents who also gifted fruit to us) are really nice people, and were very helpful. In fact, nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Trebes was a straightforward 25 min walk. I would only mention that the stairs in the Pigeonnier were a little steep for my 80+ mother but there were no problems in the manor house. We have rented holiday homes for 20 years plus, and this is comfortably one of the best. Thank you, Thomas, for your particular kindness when we had some issues with airport transport. I recommend this property without hesitation.
A wonderful holiday in a lovely rural location with perfect weather.
Our extended family of 11, ages from 8 to 68, really enjoyed this holiday week. We spread ourselves comfortably over the 2 adjoining houses where the facilities are excellent. The grounds are extensive, well-laid out and there is plenty to explore. In particular, the 2 pools and surrounding garden are superb and, the weather was hot and sunny, so that was where we spent most of our time. The adjoining pool house has a good-sized barbecue which we used several times.
Thomas and his family gave us a warm and friendly welcome and are excellent hosts.
Our favourite beach in the area was Leucat- Plage which is about 1 hour away. The nearby Canal du Midi is ideal for walking, jogging or cycling.
We can thoroughly recommend this property which is ideal for larger parties. We hope to visit her again in the future.
Best holiday rental ever
Having had a week to reflect on our stay in these two holiday homes I can honestly say that they were the best we have encountered. Our extended family of fifteen, ranging in age from 13 to 78 all had a great time. The houses were comprehensively equipped and were simply but appropriately furnished.
Everything worked well i.e. washing machines, dishwashers, hot water system and air-conditioning etc.
Outside there were two well-maintained and much enjoyed swimming pools and a large covered area for eating inside if rain or wind prevailed.
This also included a barbecue, table tennis and X box for extra entertainment. There was also a boules pitch, which was enjoyed by all.
The owner, Thomas, was charming and most helpful with recommendations for restaurants and explanations about the excellent red wine which he is producing from his vineyard. He also had various whites and roses on offer in the wine coolers.
He was away for the first week of our holiday, but his parents live in the village and were there to help with any queries in his absence (we didn't have any) and, more importantly replenish wine supplies! His father, Gerard, also left a wonderful box of apricots from his orchard on our doorstep midweek. A gesture which was much appreciated and certainly beyond the call of duty.
The location suited us well. A pleasant half hour walk, partly alongside the Canal du Midi to the pretty little town of Trebes, with a wonderful boulangerie and adequate supermarket. It also has several canalside restaurants, including the wonderful "Moulin" where we had a superb meal. The less active could do the car journey in five minutes
We enjoyed a dayat Leucate, where we lunched at a great beach restaurant, recommended by Thomas and the young had fun on a pedallo. Carcassonne is not to be missed for its charm and history, but go early and have petit dejeuner there before the crowds arrive.
All in all it was a holiday which will be remembered by us all. Not least because of the friendliness and welcome from the Sananes family.
WeI have no hesitation in highly recommending this venue. Thank you, Thomas. Best wishes, Mike and Carolyn Graham & family
Amazing Summer Family Retreat!
We were an extended family group of 17 people, ranging in age from 6 to 70s. The property has many bedrooms and easily accommodated all the various family groups. We enjoyed the grounds, the pool, and the outdoor cabana area for evening meals. Thomas was readily available to help us and answer questions and offer suggestions. The property is walking distance to Trebes village. A fun time had by all, the week passed too quickly!
Beautiful house, stunning location!
We stayed at the Manoir de Cantalauze during the summer of 2009 with our 3 children of 4, 10 and 13. We had the most fantastic time!
The house is furnished and decorated to an extremely high standard with beautiful oak furniture. The bathrooms are really nice and light and the master bedroom had me wanting to move in! My children loved the fact that we were in the middle of vines and beautiful rolling countryside and that they could roam around at will. Its great cycling country with the canal du midi at the bottom of the drive - you can go for miles. We used to cycle into Trebes (the local town) for bread and croissants - it was the highlight of the childrens day to ask for their pain au chocolat at the fantastic boulangerie there.
The kitchen and downstairs area is quite open plan which could be a bit noisy but it has a great feeling of space. It even has a fireplace in the kitchen which would be lovely if you planned to go there off season.
The pool area was just stunning!
You feel like you have arrived in a film set its so beautiful. There is a lovely long pool if you have the energy to do lengths and my littlest appreciated the shallow kids pool very much.
There is also a great barbeque corner in a huge pool house - more like a barn - which also has a separate loo.
Cantalauze is extremely well situated for exploring the local area as it is close to all the main routes. It took us 40 minutes to get to the beach (lots to choose from) and you can get to to Carcassonne in 15 minutes. The old cite is a must. We also loved the Minervois area - lovely little villages and the impressive site of Minerve. There are lots of local markets to visit - Mirepoix is worth the trip on a Monday and Carcassonne has markets on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Trebes itself has a lovely Italian restaurant (kids loved the pizzas) and a fish restaurant (you can see how fresh the fish is as it is a shop also) They are right on the canal du Midi and you can take boat trips just there. There is a local tourist office which is very helpful.
We will definitely be going back!
A relaxing few days holiday
We were fortunate enough to spend a few days in this tranquil setting during the grape picking season. A hive of activity and very interesting, and beautiful weather.
The accommodation was very comfortable for our party of six with spacious bedrooms and living accommodation. The kitchen was well equiped.
The pool area was enjoyed by all and a great place to relax and enjoy the excellent wine produced on the estate.
The surrounding areas is worth exploring with historic towns close by. Canal cruises are available from Trebes and if we had more time we would certainly have spent a day on the water.
Hope you enjoy your stay as we did
