Large Exclusive Luxury Villa With Private Pool, Terrace and Sea Views

Overview

Property

Updated: 29-Nov-2016
Luxury 5 Bedroom 5 Bathroom Seaside Villa with Pool & Stunning Views

Nestling in the hillside at the foot of a stunning historic hilltop village, Folia lies on a hand-picked plot perfectly situated a few minutes walk from the centre of the village and a short walk from the beach. The house is elegantly furnished with hardwood lacquered furniture, silk bedding and stone statues imported from China. With uninterrupted spectacular views to the sea over unspoilt landscape, this fully equipped villa is able to accommodate a large number of people in complete comfort.

Designed and built to the highest standards in sympathy with local architecture, Folia is surrounded by beautiful landscaped gardens containing lemon, orange, fig, pomegranate, plum and peach trees, grape vines and flowering and ornamental plants. The house has a large private pool (10m x5m) with diving board and decked pergola with outdoor mattresses for al fresco relaxation. House features include home cinema, air conditioning, wireless internet throughout including poolside, extensive terracing with secluded secret terrace, vaulted chestnut ceilings, granite floors, barbecue, luxuriously appointed kitchen, mosquito blinds and sea views from all the bedrooms.

Megalos Mourtias is the closest beach and is a 15 minute walk downhill (1,000m). It is a pebble beach with two lovely tavernas and sun beds on the beach and under olive groves. The sea here is calm, shallow and has sand underfoot making it ideal for families.

The 11 Sporades Islands are densely wooded and mountainous. Alonissos is one of only 4 inhabited islands in the group, and the only inhabited island in a marine conservation area. There are many beaches around the island and all are unspoilt and undeveloped. Some have tavernas such as Chrissi Milia and Leftos Yialos, great for lunch or dinner by the sea. Up the island is a picturesque port, Steni Vala where you will find some excellent seafood tavernas.

Alonissos has a large and picturesque area of protected forest; a lush mix of dense, scented pine, evergreen oak and a variety of fruit trees and bushes and it has been a walkers paradise for many years. Walking guides describe numerous marked walks across and around the island.

Sailing conditions around the Sporades are ideal with many interesting islands to be discovered. Some of the smaller uninhabited islands offer safe anchorage and secluded coves for swimming and fishing. The close proximity of these islands make this area a perfect place for short excursions. Yachts can be chartered from Alonissos, Skopelos and Skiathos and it is also possible to hire small motor boats from Patitiri harbour for day trips.

There are several excellent diving schools in Patitiri and Steni Vala and an underwater museum is being developed and will allow diving on an ancient wreck. The crystal clear visibility and underwater landscape here make for some of the most spectacular diving in the world. The sea bed is among the richest in shipwrecks dating back as far as 5th century B.C. and the area around Alonissos and Skopelos has the second largest concentration of ancient and middle-aged wrecks in the world, the most famous being off the coast of Peristera island adjacent to Alonissos.

Alonissos is home to the internationally acclaimed centre of classical homoeopathy founded and run by the renowned homoeopath George Vithoulkas. Yoga and massage are also available locally in the Old Village.

Alonissos can be reached by charter flights to Skiathos between May and October. From Skiathos take the Flying Kat (80 minutes) or Ferry (1 hour 45 minutes). These run daily are can be booked online.

Scheduled flights are via Athens and Thessaloniki and travel from there is by coach to Aghios Contantinos or Volos and Flying Kat for 3 hours or an internal flight to Skiathos and the flying Kat from there.

We would recommend car or scooter hire for trips round the island, but this is not essential as beach and old village are both easily accessible on foot.

Top Traveller Review

About the Owner

We have travelled extensively but once we found Alonissos, there was no doubt in our minds that we had found something very special, a hidden jewel. We love the friendly, relaxed atmosphere on this island as well as a stunning natural environment to explore. The beaches are extremely quiet and the protected bays and calm clear water are simply divine. Alonissos is a very green island and we love discovering hidden beaches and woodland paths...of which there are many.

Dear Folia, you have been a complete joy to deal with from start to finish. We had an unbelievable time and explored every inch of the island (always happy to return back to Chora – you certainly picked the best spot). I will never forget my morning ritual of awakening before the family and opening shutters and doors and marvelling at that view. The only problem is now that I don’t think we will ever be happy renting a villa anywhere else again. What I have certainly realized is that to escape the crowds and beer boys you have to go to an island without an airport. For the first time ever the children really did not want to come back home to see friends or anything. It would be unlike us to go to the same place 2 years running but at the moment we can’t think of anywhere better so we may be one of your first for 2011 if you can stand not being there yourselves again. Thanks for helping us make such beautiful memories. Best Wishes

Super duper

Beautifully located just outside the old town. Property management and the team are highly responsive and a pleasure to deal with.

A very generous welcome pack was provided from olive oil to cold wine in the fridge.

We were a large group and the facilities matches all our requirements amply.

We will definitely book again!

Anmazing Villa, beautiful island

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week at this stunning villa on this beautiful island and it was nowhere near long enough. Everything has been carefully thought about and catered for and the house keeper could not have been more helpful. There were 7 of us but there is so much room it would have been perfectly comfortable for twice as many. The views are stunning and the pool excellent. The people on the island are so friendly and welcoming and we are looking forward to the time when we can return for a much longer experience.

Perfection

  • 5 of 5

A five minute taxi ride brings you from the port to the villa and immediately you know you are in for something a bit special. The handsome stone Chinese dogs sit in a shady courtyard, and the pretty olive coloured door opens into a bright , cool luxury pad. This is a villa with everything : beautiful terraces, shady chill out zones a clear blue pool and air conditioned boutique style rooms. The attention to detail is immaculate, whether you use it as a base or simply hang out in glorious surroundings with uninterrupted views of the sea, chic bar-b-que area with easy WiFi connection. Or maybe ramble the fifteen minutes to a picture perfect hill top village with cafes and restaurants, this is a stay you will remember for a very long time. Perfection.

First class house and pool - wonderful place

  • 5 of 5

We loved every minute of our stay at Folia. We were a large and multi-generational group: 2 babies, 5 children under 10, 5 adults aged 35-45 and 2 in their seventies. The house is exceptionally beautiful - carefully tended gardens full of fruit trees, a magnificent view across the bay, very private and enormous terrace. The pool is large and has a diving board to keep the children occupied, with a large and shade terrace with hammocks and pool mattresses for lounging. The house is very well equipped with kitchen equipment - the full range of blenders, steamers, etc. Kitchen and bathrooms are all fresh and clean. The bedrooms are spacious and light, with most opening on to the terrace. There is a large library of interesting books, and the house is decorated beautifully - it's clear that this is a house someone cares about and enjoys. The housekeeper was extremely helpful, arranging babysitting and cleaning. We had many enjoyable evenings having dinner on the terrace, having spent the day swimming and exploring the island. The owner was very helpful both during the booking process and in helping us to arrange our travel - communications were prompt and clear. I recommend Folia wholeheartedly!

Very comfortable and relaxing stay

  • 5 of 5

A very spacious and comfortable house. Decorated with a very interesting Chinese flavour. Lovely pool, nothing lacking in facilities and a short walk up into the old village for very reasonably-priced taverna food. A perfect stay and a wonderful rest. Highly recommended. Hire car useful but not absolutely essential.

Stunning!

  • 5 of 5

Incredible location. Fantastic facilities. Really well equipped property with a great lay out. Enough space for large groups. Very clean and lots of useful, simple guidance and instructions on how everything worked. Loved the amenities in the Old Town and the locals were always very warm and welcoming. Can't say enough about the place. Absolutely fantastic.

Location

From the Owner

We hand picked this plot from a large selection including one with it's own private beach frontage and did so because we love the proximity to the beautiful Old Village and Megalos Mourtias beach. We wanted to have space to relax on holiday with plenty of people so we built the house really spacious and comfortable to accommodate our extended family and guests in comfort.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Skiathos at 40 Kilometres Nearest Barpub : Panselinos at 750 Metres Nearest Ferry : Patitiri at 3 Kilometres Nearest Restaurant : Panselinos at 750 Metres Nearest Beach : Megalos Mourtias at 1000 Metres Car: not necessary

Folia lies at the foot of the Old Village, which with its whitewashed houses, narrow stone paths and winding steps is a feast for the eyes. At the summit of the Village is an enchanting street lined with restaurants and boutiques; perched at the very end of this street is a cafe serving authentic Greek sweets and ice cream with breathtaking views.

Amble along the thoroughfare and you will stumble upon colourful shops selling hand crafted jewellery, clothes, art and gifts, mostly from local artists.

Alonissos lies in the cleanest waters in the Aegean. Beaches are mostly pebble and shingle quickly graduating to sand in the water, commonly found in sheltered coves making the crystal clear turquoise waters calm and ideal for swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving. Some of the more remote beaches are most easily reached by boat. A number of beaches such as Megalos Mourtias and Georgi Yialos are shallow for quite a distance; perfect for paddling and playing games.
