Apartment on Alsace wine route in converted mill overlooking the Andlau River

Overview

Property

Updated: 16-Nov-2016
Charming two bedroom self catering apartment with balcony

One complete side of the apartment, where the balcony, kitchen and living room are, overlooks the Andlau River. Beamed ceilings add to the charm. There are two bedrooms, an eat-in kitchen, a living room with a bed sofa and a separate bathroom and toilet. Out the bathroom window you can see one of the two castles within walking distance.

One may visit this region at all times of the year. Cruise along the Rhein River in spring, visit the beautiful churches and museums in summer, witness the grape harvest in fall, enjoy a mulled wine as you are enchanted by the Christmas markets in colder weather. And remember, some of the best slopes are not far away.

Exceptional property in a delightful village.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 2 weeks in this property that exceeded expectations. The apartment is spacious, very well maintained & comprehensively equipped. In particular the balcony is wider than expected with September sun from 10.00 to 17.00. And the chatter of the river below was relaxing. Carol's arrangements worked perfectly. There's a ton of information about the area in folders. It's about a 10 minute walk to the boulangerie & boucherie & a little longer to the small supermarket. We thoroughly enjoyed the village and immediate locality. Andlau is a delightful place, especially for lovers of the outdoors. We would recommend each of the 4 restaurants that we tried. We have no hesitation in recommending this property.

Wonderful Base in Alsace

  • 5 of 5

If you visiting Alsace and want an exceptional and pleasing base of operations - you simply can't go wrong with this spacious, delightful apartment. It is truly a "home" base, beautifully appointed and decorated. I agree with all the positive comments in the previous reviews and wholeheartedly commend the owner for her care and attention to every detail. She really does care and even calls after arrival to ensure that all is up-to-standard. The centrally-located, charming, restful town of Andlau has all you need as a base for a memorable visit to one of France's most beautiful areas. In summary - you simply cannot go wrong staying here. It is fabulous and meets the most exacting standards.

Holiday gem, the perfect home from home.

  • 5 of 5

I rented this apartment for a week this summer with my wife and 2 daughers. The owner, Carol, was a pleasure to deal with, and ensured everything was taken care of. The apartment is tastefully decorated, furnished to a very high standard, with lots of extras that one does not expect, but then this is no ordinary rental property. The owners have lived here and it shows. I commented, to Carol, that the photos do not do this apartment justice but this only adds to the pleasent surprise when you walk in. My wifes reaction was simply a wink and a smile to say you did good, real good.

As for Andalu, it was a little slice of heaven. Great food everywhere, great wine, beautiful to walk around anytime of the day and easy to get to. For the family there is a magic public pool in nearby Obernai, beautiful villages along the wine route, and 40mins away across the rhine is Europepark. If you stay here, call into Jean Wach, to sample the great local wines and great local information...but leave the car at home!

Apartment in historic mill in Andlau, France

  • 4 of 5

Spacious apartment located in an historic mill dating from 1767 in the quiet village of Andlau, Alsace with view of the Vosges Mountains from several windows. The picturesque villages are only a few kilometres apart, so it`s often possible to hike between them. Each village is surrounded by vineyards producing chiefly pinot gris and riesling; including a winery just down the street from the apartment. Prices range from 3.50 -10 euros. Andlau has a number of wonderful restaurants and a patissier-chocolatier where we bought fresh bagels and croissants daily. The apartment is tastefully decorated and includes a well equipped kitchen. Several rooms face the mill stream with its rushing waterfall. We would recommend this apartment for at least a two week stay.

Alsace apartment, comfortable, ideally located

  • 5 of 5

We spent a week in this apartment in July 2012.

The 3d floor apartment is spacious and easily accommodates 4 people. The apartment offers every amenity; complete kitchen w/adjacent dining area, small outside deck large enough for 2 to sit outside, 2 bedrooms, large comfortable living room, TV, Wi-Fi, stereo, clothes washer AND dryer, shower/tub combination, and indoor-off-street parking. During our 2 month travels through Western Europe this was easily the best and most comfortable and home-like place we stayed.

From the outside deck there is a roof top view of the village and one of its churches as well as a babbling brook that runs past. We watched the Bastille day fireworks from the deck.

It is perfectly located, just north of Colmar, making it easy to visit all the beautiful Alsatian villages.

The nearby village of Barr, 4 km away, has everything you need, bank, grocery, gas, etc.

Carol, the owner was especially helpful and kind and made renting this place easy.

When we return to the Alsace this is the first place we will check for availability.

awesome 2 bedroom in Andlau

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I took our 17 year old niece to France and spent one of the weeks in the beautiful village of Andlau. The 2 bedroom apartment was clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with pots/pans etc. The view of the village was terrific and we loved being on the water. The balcony was small, but we were able to sit 3 people on it. Parking can be a challenge if you use the designated spot for this apartment as it is very, very tight and we opted for street parking, which was never a problem during our stay in mid July. The village is in a great location making it easy to explore the areas between Strasbourg and Colmar. We even spent a day in Germany. Our contact person was Carol and she was great to work with. She always responded quickly to my multiple questions both before and during or visit. We would definitely stay here again.

Location

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : Strasbourg at 30 Kilometres Nearest Train : Barr at 4 Kilometres Nearest Motorway : at 4 Kilometres

The village itself is small but has all facilities (doctor, dentist, grocery, hairdresser, church etc) and is literally surrounded by vineyards, all at the foothills of the Vosges. There is a market twice a week. In fact, Andlau is considered one of the prettiest villages in the region! It is on the 'route de vin' with three Grand Cru wines produced in our village alone. There are 21 Michelin starred restaurants within short driving distance and lots of good walking or hiking trails. And, of course, Strasbourg is always worth exploring. Germany and Switzerland are less than an hour away. Various activities for children are nearby, including Europa Park, Monkey Mountain and medieval castles and forts. Andlau is only 4 km from a main highway which leads to all locations, either north or south, so one could fly into France, Germany or Switzerland since these airports are easily accessed. The fast train (TGV) to Paris runs several times a day from Strasbourg. It takes less than 2 1/2 hours. Great travel and accommodation deals are available.
