About Laetitia & Roy Evans

We bought our traditional little piece of heaven that is Le Peyruzel in 2004. It had been a dream of ours for many years to some day live in France. We, Roy and I (Letitia) had visited La Belle France many times with our children while they were growing up. Surprisingly we had never stayed in the Perigord Noir. Usually heading for the Med or the Atlantic coast from our home in Scotland. We did occasionally stay inland and we loved the beauty of the French countryside. The diversity of the different departments was truly breathtaking. In 2004 I had retired from the NHS in Scotland and when friends asked if we would join them on a trip to the Lot in France, we really didn't need too much persuasion! Roy and I talked about our life long ambition to 'live the dream' and decided it was finally time, if we were serious, to start looking for somewhere we could call home in France. We arranged many 'appointments to view' properties within a couple of hours drive from Toulouse Airport and so began the most exciting and challenging time of our lives.

Laetitia & Roy Evans purchased this cottage in 2004

Why Laetitia & Roy Evans chose Perigord Noir

Notes:
Your dream holiday cottage is nestled in the tiny hilltop hamlet of Le Peyruzel. Our picturesque garden, situated a few steps along the quiet lane, offers spectacular views across the valley and down to the village of Daglan. In the village there is a bank, post office, boulangerie, boucherie, a small but very well stocked Supermarket. At the Tourist Information Office you will find a wealth of local information. Le Petit Paris, an award-winning restaurant, is highly recommended to sample the wonderful food and wines of the Perigord Noir. A short drive will take you to the spectacular sites on our doorstep. Chateaux Castelnaud, Beynac, and Millandes. The magnificent gardens of Marqueyssac and Eyrignac are close by. The wonderfully preserved medieval city of Sarlat-la-Caneda with its amazing architecture is just a short drive away. The Perigord is well known for its many historic Bastides and the famous Bastide de Domme is almost on our doorstep!

French paradise

  • 5 of 5

Just back from a weeks stay at the cottage which is surrounded by stunning scenery.

The cottage is well maintained and has all the amenities you could ask for. Roy and Letitia are excellent hosts and provide lots of helpful information on where to visit. I would highly recommend the cottage to friends and family.

The La Cantine which is a local restaurant is worth a visit. The food is excellent.

Living the French dream!

  • 5 of 5

This lovely traditional house is located in a peaceful hamlet surrounded by fantastic rolling countryside. We loved eating out at the front of the house looking over to the beautiful chateau right across the little road and watching the occasional car or walker pass by. The garden is well maintained and just a minutes stroll from the house. It was very private and great to have a choice of places to sit and relax after lounging around the pool. Plenty of outdoor seating/lounging and an outdoor fridge meant we didn't need to move far! The views were just beautiful and evening drinks under the abri, watching the sunset, were very special. The house was beautifully clean, comfy and well equipped- we really felt at home. There was plenty of space for 5 adults. It was really helpful having Letitia and Roy next door- they were so friendly and welcoming but discrete. They were able to recommend local places to visit and eat at. Daglan, 10 minutes drive down in the valley is a lovely village and the Sunday market was great. Had two good nights eating at the auberge there too, soaking up the atmosphere. We enjoyed visiting local sites without having to drive far - Domme, Castelnaud, Montfort hired bikes and embraced canoeing down the Dordogne. It was a perfect choice for the 5 of us to share time together to relax and enjoy the sites of the Dordogne. So pleased we found it! Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful setting for the most peaceful, relaxing holiday

  • 5 of 5

I'll start by saying that usually after a week away, I'm ready to head home, being a bit of a homebody. But after 10 days here, I was desperate to stay longer and very sad to leave.

Everything about this place is magical, from the view, to the pool, to the cosy feel of the cottage, to the friendliness of the hosts Leticia and Roy, who make you feel instantly at home and are ready and waiting to give you information on things to see and do to enhance your visit.

From the location of the property it is only a short drive (10 - 35 mins maximum) to lots of attractions, from canoeing on the river, to majestic chateaus, local markets and walks through picturesque villages. We feel like we only scratched the surface and would very much like to return and see more.

The cottage is welcoming and comfortable with plenty of space, a lovely terrace to dine alfresco, and all the things you need to make your stay a pleasant one.

Our children of four and six loved sleeping on the mezzanine level in one of the bedrooms, adored Leticia and Roy's friendly pets, and had a fabulous time in and around the pool area. It is a very child friendly place as the road is so quiet out front, and with the addition of the poole and table tennis table, there's plenty to keep them amused.

All in all, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this accommodation if you are looking for peace, tranquility and views to die for, in the centre of the beautiful Dordogne. Thanks for a truly memorable holiday!

Excellent

  • 5 of 5

We would thoroughly recommend this cottage. The living room and both bedrooms are very spacious and nicely furnished. There is a nice outdoor space just in front of the cottage which can be used for dining, but the real x factor for this cottage comes with the garden and pool area. A really lovely space to relax, swim and eat with fantastic views over the valley. The cottage is well situated for the lovely village of Daglan which has a couple of good restaurants and of course for all the major sights of the Dordogne.

A little taste of heaven!

  • 5 of 5

Everything has already been said about this fabulous property...and it is all true! Perfect location to tour around the countryside but always happy to return home to the "cottage". Spotlessly clean, all amenities you would every need and very comfortable beds. Letitia & Roy are wonderful hosts and they do make you feel at home. Their advice as to where we should visit and what restaurants to eat at was very helpful. Would love to go back and stay longer. Thank you both.

Our charming, traditional Perigordian cottage of honey coloured stone is set in the heart of the area known locally as the Golden Triangle. France's most sought after holiday destination. Our loving restored.

cottage sits directly opposite the impressive, 13th Century Château du Peyruzel. Listed as a 'Monument Historique'.

The major attractions of Beynac, La Roque Gageac and Sarlat la Caneda (to name just a few) are all within an easy 15 min drive along the Dordogne River. The magnificent Bastide town of Domme is 5 minutes away across the Valley, and Castelnaud la Chapelle with its spectacular Chateau clinging to the edge of the hillside is a lovely 9km drive down through the Ceou Valley.

Le Peyruzel is perched high on the hills above the pretty village of Daglan where there is a Post Office, Boulangerie, Boucherie and a small super-market. In the award winning restaurant, Le Petit Paris, enjoy a gastronomic feast and sample the superb Bordeaux and Bergerac wines of the region. Cool off in the in the rock pools of the River Coeu which runs through the village or take a short drive to the banks of the Dordogne where you can try canoeing or enjoy a leisurely sail and marvel at the historic Chateaux of Castelnaud and Beynac sitting majestically above the riverbank.

Our newly installed swimming pool with its powerful jet pump is fantastic for cooling off in the summer heat. The traditional 'abri de jardin' is a delightful spot to relax in our comfy sofa or chairs and read a book or listen to some music (iPod docking station) or, have a glass chilled wine from the fridge by the pool or simply enjoy the amazing views across the valley.
